Pepino had a friend Pasquale and it made me so happy when I was 5 years old. I learned Italian because of this song. We get older and our loved ones may not be here on earth any longer but the memories will be forever. I still dance to this song. Thank you Lou Monte!!!

Thank you, Bob. I am 48 years old and I can remember my Dad playing this and singing it to me as far back as memory takes me. I hadn't heard this in 40 years probably!! Thanks so much for the memories. My dad is 82 now and I cant wait to play it for him on Christmas day when he is here! Amazing childhood memories! Thank you!

I was so excited to hear this again. I'm 47 my grandmother would play it for me and we'd dance around. Oh such wonderful memories with her. She has past on but I know she was smiling while I was listening to it. I sent the feed to my mom and she to remembers it, and still has the album. Shes is listening to it now too. Thank for such making me remember the wo derful memories with her!

I'm Italian, I mean straight from Italy, and I'm very impressed by Lou Monte's accent when speaking Italian (that's actually Neapolitan dialect). He sounds like he's just from here, got a very thick Neapolitan accent and sounds so genuine that I might think he ain't even American! Unfortunately lots of Italian-Americans can't speak Italian like that today, the mother tongue gets lost generation after generation.. that's normal but it'd be nice if they could still speak Italian like that

I wondered why I couldn't understand some of it because I'm of Calabrese descent. I understood Pepino the Little Mouse perfectly because he spoke the Calabrese dialect.

If I understand correctly, Monte is ethnically Italian but he was born in America, but he got his start singing in Italian restaurants for immigrants so if he didn't get his Italian correct, they didn't pay him.

Baccala ... gosh, I never hear that word much any more since my parents passed. That was one of their favorite words. I think I'm going to bring it back in my family. I don't think I actually ever used the word. It was my parents word and they used it frequently.

@VIPER1ification Ciao, Fratello Cubano! Ringrazio per il suo comentario de "Lou Monte's" "Pepino-"
Yes, Pepino means Pickle in Spanish, but as in Spanish, "Pepe" for nick name for Jose,
Jose in Italian is of course Giuseppe for Joseph. Giuseppe, hence, "Peppe" or "Peppino" if it is
used for endearment, as in "small Joseph" Giuseppino!
You see the Spanish Pepe for Jose, and the Italian Pepino for Giuseppino has little to do with
    Cucuzza or "cucumbers" or Pickles!!
    But, your comment was cute!

Anyone have any idea what Lou says at 2:42. I heard something like "stunad" short for "stunato" then "now their shooting at me."
What was Lou's full dialogue in that line?

I do Baccala the Maltese way. I soak it in water the day before cooking it.
Then I boil it, throw away the boiled water, add fresh water and reboil. When done I add plenty of finely diced fresh local garlic, chopped parsley and our local olive oil and serve with fresh salad, steamed vegetables, crusty Maltese bread and bitter olives. A very good traditional Maltese meal I must say!
