The conflict in Manipur, contrary to the narrative that it began with a High Court judgment, has much deeper roots tied to illegal immigration from Myanmar. A large number of Kuki migrants from Myanmar have been settling in Manipur for years, and reports suggest that over 980 illegal villages were established within a short time span, with the figure likely being much higher after more thorough investigations. These immigrants not only defied the state government’s orders to settle in designated and documented camps, but also encroached upon protected forest areas, violating environmental laws and contributing to widespread deforestation. The Kuki settlers’ refusal to comply with government orders triggered tension, as their illegal occupation of land in protected zones threatened the fragile ecosystem. When the government initiated steps to identify these illegal settlers and reclaim the forested areas, the Kuki community responded with agitation, ultimately escalating into violent conflict. This defiance, paired with their insistence on claiming rights to land that is not theirs, has contributed significantly to the unrest. Moreover, this wave of immigration has created demographic imbalances in Manipur, with reports indicating that the Kuki population in the state now includes a large number of non-citizens. The illegal settlements have been linked to other issues, such as the cultivation of poppy fields, which are part of a larger drug trafficking network tied to the Golden Triangle. This has not only caused severe environmental damage but also brought international criminal activity into the region. The conflict is thus not simply about ethnic or political differences, but about the flagrant violation of law and order, the degradation of protected areas, and the refusal of illegal immigrants to follow the rules set by the state. The state's efforts to restore legal order and environmental balance have been met with resistance from the Kuki settlers, who have chosen violence over negotiation, pushing the region into a state of conflict. This situation requires urgent action to restore the rule of law, reclaim illegally occupied land, and address the demographic and environmental challenges posed by unchecked immigration from Myanmar
Bro,,,,,,, Meitei and Nagas are the main communities in Manipur. Kukis were brought by British from Burma to fight against Naga warrior (Head Hunter) back in 18th and 19th centuries.
Noted Brother. But, I had to make the video crisp and mainly had to connect it to the geopolitics. Yes, there are a lot of things I have not covered as this issue has a lot of shades. But then I have to make a 2 hour long video maybe.
There are some misinformation 1.Meiteis are mostly General categories, only some are OBC and SC,those meiteis native to phayeng, andro, sekmai are mostly SC,the rest are mostly General and OBC,but the majority are General. 2. Meiteis wanted their land to be protected not from nagas and kukis, but from non-manipuris and outsiders, because the real threats are illegal immigrants, the valley land is open to all, in 2016 there was a huge movement for ILP, though ILP was implemented ,it worked only on paper,it wasn't practical because outsider could get it extended indefinitely, some ILP cards were issued till 2075. 3. Both meiteis ,nagas kukis eat meat, even meitei brahmins/called bamons also eat meat and beef.
Thankyou for the additional information buddy. I have my knowledge from secondary sources only, so there could be some 19-20s from the ground reality. About Meiteis renouncing meat, that I talked in context what usually distinguished the agrarian town people from the tribes in earlier times. Most Hindus even across India consume meat but mostly they are depended on agricultural products, whereas for tribes the main source is meat. And yes, meiteis are continuously saying that they are protecting their land from outsiders. Kukis and Meiteis have coexisted for very long but at the same time the missionary incursion is also there. Plus the violence that broke during giving ST certification was also an angle to be looked upon.
@@DefenceMavericks The pot of already brewing, since 2021, the ST court ruling was just an excuse for kukis to ask for SA. Before 3rd May, on April 27 or 28, an open gym which was about to be inaugurated by the CM was completely burnt down by protesters. They have been planning for a quiet a while now. It traces back to the 1992 kuki-naga conflict. From this previous clash with nagas, kukis have had this insecurity over land, and wanted a land of their own control. The problem is everyone is insecure about their land and identity, and also the outside forces, there are thousands of refugees coming in from burma due to the conflict in burma also, chins are close relatives of kuki-mizo so they're allowing them to settle in Manipur's land, which the meiteis are completely against. That's why meiteis are demanding for NRC
