Location
1. Magdala, also known as Migdal, is located on the northwestern shore of the Sea of Galilee.
2. It was located on the Via Maris (International Highway linking Africa with Asia and Europe).
Historical Background
1. This particular part of Magdala was recently discovered in 2009. It’s believed a flash flood covered it sometime in the latter part of the 1st Century, as no coins or artifacts were found dating later than 67 AD.
2. It was a fishing village with one of the largest fish markets in the northern Galilee area.
3. It has one of the oldest, most well-preserved synagogues in Israel.
4. This synagogue was in use during the time of Jesus, and He certainly would have preached here on a regular basis.
Matthew 4:23: And he went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction among the people.
5. On one occasion, Jesus came to this area after feeding 4,000 people on the eastern side of the Sea of Galilee.
Matthew 15:38-39: Those who ate were four thousand men, besides women and children. 39 And after sending away the crowds, he got into the boat and went to the region of Magadan (Magdala).
6. It had a population of around 1,000-2,000 people during the time of Christ.
7. It had a boat harbor.
8. It has a rare stone replica of the temple in Jerusalem with detailed carvings showing different aspects of the temple.
9. Magdala was the hometown of the famous Jewish historian, Josephus.
10. It was the hometown of Mary Magdalene, from whom Christ cast out 7 demons.

13. Duc In Altum (Latin for "Put out into the deep") is a spiritual center in Magdala in which all can worship. It has a unique Galilean boat as an altar and has a beautiful view behind it of the Sea of Galilee. This center was built in honor of Mary Magdalene. One of its purposes is to honor and support women today.

Magdala is an awesome place. I have been there twice and last time stayed at the hotel on the site. What a place full of grace only second to the church of the Holy Sepulchre.

Yes Mary Magdalene was great! I realize this is about her town. But I would also like to say that mother Mary is extremely if not more noteworthy if you just watch the Chosen you will even notice that.
There is nothing like a mother and a sons intimate attachment and love nothing. So this is a great episode and I love seeing the town. I was there in 2013-2014, And it was just starting to be excavated a lot. That was a wonderful area because as you pointed out Jesus was there in addition to many others. Thank you.

If you read the true story you would find Mary Magdalene is THE STORY, she is THE WIFE of JESUS.
Here's a tidbit for you she laid in the tomb with Jesus for 3 days 3 nights and had his child ( go to Acts 12:12, who do you think this Mary is and this John Mark) their son who is Mark of the Gospels.

One day I hope to go to Israel and all the places where Jesus went and walked and did all he did. Until I go, I enjoy watching and hearing about all the places in the Holy Bible. The Peace of God brother! I would like to know who was the woman that cried over the Lord Jesus Christ feet ? Was she the same Mary? That bible passage is very emotional to me . Love from a rural area of Brazil were I do live to all brothers and sisters in the world. It was not Mary Magdalene who anointed Jesus' feet. It was Mary from Bethany who was the sister of Martha and Lazarus. In John’s gospel, Lazarus’ sister Mary is the woman who anoints Jesus with a high-priced perfume at a dinner in Bethany. The story is similar to those in the other gospels, although this anointing takes place six days before Passover, and Judas is named as the disciple who objects to the “waste.” On this occasion, “Mary took a twelve-ounce jar of expensive perfume made from essence of nard, and she anointed Jesus’ feet with it, wiping his feet with her hair”(John 12:3). Jesus defends Mary from Judas’s criticism by pointing out the unique opportunity Mary had: “You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me” (John 12:8).

I wonder if because Jesus had been beaten beyond recognition before being crucified, he needed to be touched by the Father to bring back his Earthly body healed for others to recognize him. He would still have the piercing of his hands and feet, as well as his side, however his face and body, so badly beaten, would be healed. Jesus said he does nothing without the Father, so I often wonder about that... Also the disciples on the road to Emaos... Jesus appeared but they didn't recognize him. If anyone has an answer, or opinion, please share it with me... It's just one of those questions I've never found an answer for! Thank you for filming this site! I would love to walk in the footsteps of Jesus!

FUN FACT about Duc in altum. You will notice when you walk into that room. These life-size paintings of the apostles. To the right there is one of Judas. When I was in Galilee several times, I visited here every time and one of the times one of the workers shared with me And those that were with me about the scratches on the foot of Judas' painting in there.
Apparently one of the employees that worked there had a dog and they brought the dog to work. The dog got loose and went into that room and went straight to the painting of Judas and started scratching away at his foot. Even the dogs know a traitor when they see one 😂.

Nope not Lazarus, that was her son...Just like Martha was her daughter not sister...but then you would have to know your hebrew and aramaic to discern these things , what am saying ....where's your dog I'll explain it to him.

Great job honoring Mary from Magdala. She is definitely a good example for women of God. She has also been falsely accused by history of being a prostitute which is not in the Bible... Of being Jesus wife on the earth which is not in the Bible and is absurd.... And by the Chosen series, a disgusting segment where she's a backslider, (which is also not in the Bible).
She was obviously, according to scripture, a faithful woman of God, Who loved and served her Master faithfully. She loved much. And as somebody also who had demons cast out of them, you don't ever want to backslide into that again after meeting the Savior.
Praise God for an example that the Lord showed in Mary of Magdala.
