    I feel you severely undersell adaptability, at least for Void Dwellers.
    Since Void Dwellers can't get extra building slots from districts and spam habitats, an extra building slot is quite rare and when used in dozens of habitats, very useful.
    Not to mention Habitat prospecting! As Void Dweller you are incredibly dependent on rng giving you planets with mineral/energy/science to build your habitats and this finisher not only cancels out any bad rng but ensures EVRYWHERE is a good habitat spot!

    • @JoViljarHaugstulen
      @JoViljarHaugstulen 3 роки тому +2

      Well I don't think Science Habitats/districts are as necessary anymore outside of the early game because of Voidborne Ascension perk giving +2 building slots and Functional Architecture giving +2 building slots which lets you cram quite a lot of researchers into a habitat even without the research district

      In 2210 when you're still building in your first three habitats and minerals aren't plentiful? Getting both housing and jobs in one spending is very useful then!

      You can get 2 by taking Voidborne perk or Functional Architecture civic. There's other trees which open building slots and once out of the early game spamming habitats solves issues, so Adaptability is a later optional pick.
      Any colony should have a district and building specialisation plan for efficiency reasons, swapping research to districts is therefore useful as is the hydroponics in base/building slots. Having some bot jobs in habitats reduces housing consumption, saving a district or slot. A mining habitat with bots, will similarly have building slots spare without a need for housing districts.
      Research districts in research habs are great, I like them for planet empires too, you gain output without requiring a lot of gas or relic worlds and gain spare building slots for other stuff OR extra research.

  • @tekoimming1943

    Just a quick fact: with a planetary shield generator, the unyielding tree and the adaptability tree you can reduce the bombardment damage taken to 0% and nothing except Colossus Ships can remove your cheeky little habitat out of the border system. This is a must if you want to turtle against a fallen empire or any crisis. There may be some Boni to get some damage through, but even then it's painfully slow.

      tested this, some damage will still come through, so there seems to be a minimum amount of damage always dealt.
      Still you can ensure it takes 10+ years to bomb your planet.
      This combines well with reanimated armies, as you get extremely strong defense armies which take over the attacking armies.

      But considet alternatives to achieve the benefit!
      As a void dweller Megacorp, I went for influence reduction via perk, because one direction was blocked by marauders, the other had a blackhole at 5 hops, then I discovered the choke, with a spiral arm junction beyond it.
      In the situation, Interstellar Dominion was taken which made a huge difference, especially as the leader picked up extra bonus. Expansion doesn't help much early game, so I go Discovery usually.
      The planned tallish calm early build up, turned into a massive land grab and taking the key point effectively secured the game.

    • @just_gut
      @just_gut 3 роки тому +5

      @@RobBCactive There has yet to be a game I've played as a Megacorp, even Void Born, where taking Expansion and then one tradition in for the influence reduction wasn't the optimal play. Even if you move off to something else afterward. I even go so far as to avoid taking any other systems until I have that tradition. Extra systems for the extra resources are just too valuable throughout the game to lose out early.
      Plus, as a MegaCorp, that extra influence savings over time is worth extra branch offices. The early game is where you really need that specific part of Expansion.
      Yes, every empire and situation will be different, that is the nature of the game. But I have an unfortunately large number of hours in the game and every time I don't take the influence reduction first I regret it.

    Diplomacy tradition early on saved me and was even flatout OP especially picked on early.
    1. Having more envoys is extremely useful and you can utilise them a lot of ways (not including spying which is bad)
    2. +100% naval cap contribution is huge. With this tree you can force more powerful empires into hegemony into you and still be the hegemon so you get a free fleet that the AI is kind enough to build for you without paying a dime. In one playthough I had 2x30K fleets and my free hegemon fleet was 75K (that could also be merged as it has no fleet cap limit)
    3. Building positive relations faster is good, but not world breaking, but the favor chance comes into play a lot. I usually have 14 envoys in my diplomat focused empires each of them that are at improve relations have 5% chance to give a free favor each month. I usually end up with a ton of favors. Favors are brutally good. You can force things through votes, make agreements easy and you can even cash them in with trade offers.

    I would never go for prosperity as the first tradition, because in the first years when you have few planets and pops and only some mining stations, the % gain won't boost your economy much. 20% of nothing is still nothing (or 5% for the specialists and for all jobs when the tradition is completed). The only good thing for the first years is the -10% building and district costs. Discovery and expansion seem to make much more sense to me in the beginning.

    My question is: how good is anomaly discovery chance?
    Will it spawn more anomalies that lead to more resources and how significant is this gain. Running some simulations would be nice. Additional questions:
    Is it worth it to rush map the stars edict? (statistically how many systems makes it worth it?)
    How valuable is the scientist trait that gives +10% anomaly discovery chance?

    • @therealbahamut
      @therealbahamut 3 роки тому +14

      I'm free to be corrected if wrong but I do believe anomaly discovery creates anomalies as you go; high discovery chance can considerably enrich the systems you survey, making them more valuable to you later. Also, anomalies tend to provide boosts to science, unity and miscellaneous free resources. I often use discovery as my first tree and spam out about 6-8 science ships ASAP; this gives you a better idea of which way to expand to cut off other empires' starlanes, makes your systems a bit richer, gives you bonuses that no one can take away from you, and gives more chances for first contact protocols early, which leads to good influence bonuses if your envoys are on their game. discovery is the "scouting" tree and years of strategy gaming has taught me well the value of good scouting.
      I feel like the 'map the stars' edict is just gravy if you feel like saving up for it, though this slows your expansion for a time. It is one you'll eventually want to turn off though, so that's a factor.
      As for scientists, if I'm picking a survey scientist, I just prioritize the non-research traits. Survey speed, anomaly discovery, etc. It's honestly not worth micromanaging when the clock is ticking.

    • @RobBCactive
      @RobBCactive 3 роки тому

      I use it a lot, anomalies chance is increased significantly, the Wiki wording is a bit odd, but the chance goes up as your anomaly is due. This seems to mean, meticulous and map the stars increase the number encountered greatly and survey speed of discovery, helps slip ships past empires before they close borders.
      Usually you want to get them researched too, as they give significant research points or add value to systems. I generally can level up both anomaly and survey specialists ideally carefree and meticulous respectively, so can tackle pre-cursor chain too.
      I've noticed in 3.1 poor systems can be left and later surveys by other empires can turn up resources or archaeology.

    Defence platforms don't actually suck if you build them just for long range with the support of ion cannons. Don't forget to use the shield+ speed debuffs and range buffs. However, if you build it in a system close to an L-Gate, they get swarmed and die fast.
    One of my unlcuky match, My empire got blocked both ways by marauder empires so i couldn't grow fast enough before the great khan event. I've went full defense and went for a tall empire tactic. I've blocked both choke points with 4x upgraded starbases and def platforms. Funny thing is, when great khan event happend, AI also opened the L gate, with the result of grey tempest. While great khan rushing down the weaker empires and grey tempests roaming the map, I've cleared out the other marauder empire and rushed down my neighbors, doing necropurge and quickly doubling my empire size. Khan entirely skipped my empire and tempest just came and die to my starbases.

      @@janehrahan5116 Yup on other hand if stations were not more effective then no one would NEVER use it and everythign degenerates into early supper spam. There needs to be a change on warfare itself for this to be fixed. There must be a way to wage war without dealing with the stations (like some sort of raiding the mines and labs). Also hyperlane jamming should not be automatic on the stations. It should be a module with a reasonable upkeep.

    I like to take adaptability in a rush down doomsday build. Set origin to doomsday, take extreme adaptation on species, and find and invade the first empire I find and take their world. At worst the adaptability will be ~50% which is easily survivable, removes an opponent, and leaves you with a major fleet in the early galaxy. The reason I like to take doomsday has to do with the major alloy production boost.

    Diplomacy is one of the strongest trees imo, but only to unlock an early federation. Why? Because if your running Starnet/Startech AI on GA (So way more aggro/better AI), its much better to get into an early, early federation with two AIs and just tech rush. The AI as long as they like you which isn't hard since they're in a federation with you, will protect you or dissuade other AI from declaring war on you allowing you to outtech Startech GA AI around 2250. Yeah the rest of the tree is horrible for sure, but being able to effectively have two AI's worth of fleet power early game for protection helps a ton.
    I tend to go 2 in diplomacy for Federation ASAP, either before expansion's good perks, or after depending on when I run into an AI I can reliably get into a federation.

      It's fun and the cost is trivial, in that kind of run.
      If you don't address such before you become clearly a dominant power, allies become reluctant to support your moves to strengthen your position.
      Espionage is more a peacetime activity than supporting direct military action. Good intelligence helps planning a lot though, but I think this feature suits diplo empires with envoys and economy, rather than typical multi-player rushes

    Infinite upgrade on hull and damage ?
    They can one shot entire fleet in late game.
    Maybe before they weren't so good, but now they carry a massive weight
    I prefer Harmony over Dominant because I don't use slave and for the plus 5 stability, combined +1 leader cap, +20 years of life, the +25 governing ethics and the Ascension that gives you extra growth experience (yeah, normally it would be considered garbage but it's not bad considering you will have level 10 leader a lot faster thanks to it) you can obtain crazy bonus from happiness, leader level and stability
    But yeah, they wouldn't be my first choice .
    Adaptability has a good chemistry with the Tomb world origin and Armageddon stance, +10% with the trait, +10% with the tradition and a base of 70% = 90% on every single planet (without considering the bonus from tech)
    80 with a tomb world species.

    I'm not a top tier MP professional like you, but going Expansion followed by Supremacy has never steered me wrong. Prosperity is usually the third, the rest all depends on the situation at hand. But all the sprawl reduction, influence cost reduction, and pop speed increase from Expansion is never not useful as far as I know. I always take Supremacy as a second because I'm almost never surrounded by peaceful neighbors. There is usually one or two people decreasing relations or some nonsense. I love starbases and its fun watching someone completely unprepared for an early thicc fortress, but for my alloys, Supremacy wins because it is mobile, especially if you're unlucky in chokepoint systems. The construction cost reduction and speed increase are too much for me to bear to pass up, especially considering how many alloys could be saved with the costs reduced. If retrofitting was not in the game though, then I'd probably lean heavily on Unyielding, but Supremacy for the flexibility PLUS having early Rapid Deployment doctrine is critical for my peace of mind.
    Plus, when an idiot inevitably throws their fleet away with a single mistake in an early war, having Supremacy makes counter-attacking and punishing them a lot easier. And satisfying!
