@@egc04 in addition there are over 80 MP's who dont qualify for pensions until a week after the election date. Which means they will postpone the election for a week after its supposed to be held...

I am feeling you, it will take a couple of generations to fix the problems which liberal caused today.
Trudeau states they will build 3.9 million homes by 2031. That’s about 7.5 years from now. 3.9 million / 7.5 = 533,333 homes per year. It means 44,444 homes every month. It means 1,461 new homes every day. It means 182 new homes every hour. How likely is this? CMHC states housing starts in 2023 were around 223,000 and 240,000 in 2022. Only in 2021 did starts go over 300,000 (according to Trading Economics). What are the odds the government can double production? Also, by trying to do so, even if they do, this will massively increase demand for building materials and workers. This will drive up the cost of materials, labour, and land. These new houses will be some of the most expensive ever built. No one will be able to afford these houses.
Considering that government are not in the home building business, zero.

Yup, my daughter & her fiancé just found out their rent is going up $700 in June. They can't possibly pay that.
My rent is already $1700. I found out that because of these capital gains taxes my rent is going up to $2000. I'm going to be homeless by the end of the year at aged 25 because of this.

The reason Canadians like the individual policy announcements but not the budget overall is because ON PAPER the policies in this budget aren’t terrible - but I don’t think anybody except diehard liberals actually believe they’ll be able to execute it.
4 million extra homes by 2030 sounds great - I have zero confidence this government can come even close to executing it properly.

Lockdowns destroyed small towns and the inflation is making them worse. This budget means they will stay empty and sad. Empty buildings eventually burn down. Where I live three buildings burned down and another large building is shut up with a bankruptcy sale sign on it. Five businesses gone and the jobs they created gone with them. Great job JT. We had charming towns before. We also lost a doctor last month. He went home to S Africa. If we can collectively make things better it is in spite of JT not because of JT.
