Banjo learners...make your own composition book to write details of all tutorials. But, fundamentally, you should join a Sashtriya Sangeet Class to get a pure form of basic foundation for your career. Best of luck.
13:40..." Kuchh mithi dhun..." the interviewer should know that from beginning of this video, Ali Ahmed saahab played various dhuns which were all MITHI and zabardast. The songs he picked were all based on beautiful Raagas. As to the Sargam, Ali Ahmed started with the first key on the left and that is Komal Dhaivat or "da" because this banjo was made with 29 keys and that means mundra saptak Pancham or "_Pa" is open which makes "da" on the first key on left. This setting is for C# or C-sharp which is used in major scales or majority of Raaga and that is how most artists play. I mean you can choose your "Sa" anywhere, but standard practice is what I wrote here, based on my training/schooling. I am not contesting Ustad here, by any means. he is a great artist who has played with great stars all over the world. As to tuning, there are many Apps that can be used to tune each string...from 9-11 of Surmandal, to Base and 1-2 of Main and 4 of Jhala. I think, when a Banjo comes to a beginner, they should get it tuned by the seller, who by the way should be an artist himself or herself so that they know if the banjo has been made properly and the strings are positioned chronologically to identify on the tightening keys in proper order. Each string has its key to adjust. The beginner should name all the keys so that if a string does not sound properly, they can get to that specific key without any confusion. If the banjo seller is not an artist, then one should get help from an artist to tune it. I think the Banjo seller MUST be an artist so that the beginners can have a proper launch in their careers.
