I was in the pest control industry for 33 years and also trapped a lot of rat's and mice.
When using snap traps I always put the baited end against the baseboards and caught many that accidentally stepped on it in the dark.
I have caught many mice this way and often without bait.
Glue boards are also more effective against baseboards or walls.
Mice don't really care but a rat is much more cautious and generally won't go near a trap or glue board with the human scent on it.
I have found it very helpful to move the traps around every few days so they won't know where they are.
I have caught rat's with many types of bait but found meat and cheese to be most effective.
I've caught them in live catch traps with fried chicken.

Guys, when the twins say it takes a lot of patience, they are absolutely right. My house was being terrorized by a few rats since the end of October of this year. We tried everything. Probably a few dozen traps that failed yet and yet again. But troop morale got boosted ten fold tonight, friends. Ladies and gentlemen, we got one. A big feller too. We got him with one of the Tomcat Rat Traps, the ones with the teeth. My mom was so happy she started crying lol. It took almost 2 months later, guys. Just be patient and be smart. We put our Ring camera where we knew he frequented, and tracked his usual comings and goings, and now it’s dead. By my hand. Kinda, I set the trap lol. If it can happen for me, it can happen for you!

I used to use an 11 litre ice cream pail half filled with old deep fryer oil that was sunk 3 inches below the level of the soil in my yard with a patio stone over it to keep larger animals out. used to catch 15 or more rats at a time.

Curious about the gloves. If you don't use gloves when setting a trap, do rats/mice get negative vibes from human scent on the trap?

    • @Rodentsolutioninc
      @Rodentsolutioninc 2 роки тому +14

Randy- I can answer this. First, never set a trap that rodent has previously been caught on, without gloves. That's just to keep you healthy. Now, assuming you have a new trap... You may read in several areas across the internet that rats won't come to the trap if they smell your scent. Real-world though, it doesn't impact rats in one bit. It's a wives tale. Rats eat the food that has been touched by humans all the time, for example, in dumpsters. We purchased over 14,000 rat traps last year for my company, Rodent Solutions Inc, in Florida. We never use gloves setting a new trap. Keep in mind, the rats we have in our area are Norway rats & Roof rats and other rodents in the "real world" may act differently. Both are common throughout most of the US. I hope this helps.

I have fun watching these videos because I had also a rat infestation in a ols house I rented and it was against a hill so they where coming into the house thru the doggie door on my sliding back patio door, so I always heard the flap click but eventually I started to see running shadows across the floors at night until I figured out they would come in to get the dog food so I set few victor traps and they would get caught but after 5 or more I wanted something more affordable because after a while they would take longer to fall for the traps they learn to avoid... so I went to the .99cent store and got those sticky 3 for .99 and got like $10 worth , I set them inside of the house just under or behind the flap of the doggie door like cover a whole 4ft x 4ft of floor with straps and waited, 1 x 1 they started to get stuck and I had a bucket half full with water next to my trash can so I can get the trapped rat and dunk it to drown it in a minute and dump it in the trash, trust me , it will catch rats every day for 2 weeks until there was a week of no more rats at all , I must have killed the whole colony of about 20 rats in one spot and it worked beautifully with only traps ,no bait because they where use to come in but they did not see the other side the floor covered with sticky glue traps so they jumped on them no matter the distance they can`t jump over 4ft ... they bad things was to keep my dogs away from their door at night because once I forgot and he came with about 4 traps glued to his body, that was a funny learning mess to remember to keep the dogs away when the traps are lay down for the night... a cheap real solution the just cover a big section of floor space with glue traps (at least 3x3ft) and some bait in the center and they will have no chance to get away... never use poison because you will never know where they die and another pet can find it and chew it and die from the poison as well, can be your pet or the neighbors or even birds in the open country... best way I found to kill them is to get a bucket of water and drown them with trap and all , it only takes a minute. Cheers Twins ,I have fun watching these types of videos because we all have at some time a battle with natures creatures and these are not endangered species so the more we kill the safer and clean our space will be. Thanks.

I am happy to read about someone who uses glue sheets to catch mice. After several years of consideration and many unsuccessful attempts to catch mice via several different mouse traps, I gave up and used a glue board at each end of the kitchen table. And Bingo - the same morning there was a mouse on each plate.
They were not drowned, but left to the rat dog, which killed them in one efficient bite. She had never caught anything before and I honestly thought her instinct was a joke, but it certainly wasn't. Now her instinct is really awakened and goes on patrol around the property several times a day. If she is lucky she will also catch something, I am convinced of that!

II never caught 1 rat with the Koro until I built a wooden box/tunnel enclosure for it. The rats were just to weary of it as a standalone trap. Once I did, I caught rats, chipmunks, & Squirrels! It's very powerful but tricky to set sensitive enough to catch the smart ones!

I have a rat trap that has roofing nails driven up just behind the kill bar, much like the one with dry wall screws the twins are using. The bait that never fails is crunch style peanut butter. I think they confuse the bait holder for a piece of peanut and try to pull on it. I also slightly straighten the bait holder trip so the bail releases with a super light touch.

What’s worked really well for me especially when there is rodents inside us using the Victor traps, baiting them in a very precise way using slim Jim, and then placing them along the walls and other runway areas. I always place 2 traps about about a foot apart in all those areas. At night they’re not running around with flashlights so they’re relying on their keen sense of smell navigating on those pheromone trails and sticking to edges, with the traps set this way if they hood over it or go around it they usually don’t expect the 2nd trap so close to the other. Anyways they almost never get away for me. Great video really like the bucket one I’m curious if you set up a camera if any jumped last second to avoid falling in the bucket.

I've busted my ass for 25 years as a trucking company owner and I am comfortably a millionaire now, does every person have a right to have everything I enjoy, just because they are poor? Sorry, but with hardwork comes a level of enjoyment in life that not every person is entitled to. I have what I have because I struggled to build my wealth, no one gave me a handout. Snap traps are the best, that bucket-dunk is interesting, having a airsoft-gat would be cool, pop them on the joist / rafters. Also, it goes to show you, pest control has its challenges: to get the rat on the trap, doesnt always go that way...Finally, some interesting unless knowledge....The city dump uses bottle rockets, on flying rats.

I have been an exterminator since 1991 and have owned my own company since 2008.. rats are neophobic.. they are scared of new objects even if it's something they like... So sometimes you must prebate the trap.. what that means is put the trap where it can catch something but do not arm do not set the trap.. put the bait in it and let the rats come for a while and eat from that trap without getting snapped once they've gained confidence you go back and set the trap..BAM !
I actually like traditional wooden Victor traps but they have a large trigger made out of plastic. I also like the T-Rex type rat traps they work well... Peanut butter works great sometimes Reese's cups.. but but the best is bacon and bacon grease rats just can't resist it.. I used to buy from trader Joe's a bacon jam.. it was so easy to use but now they discontinued it so I have to make up my own bacon

going to make this because I haven't had the opportunity to take a shot with the blowgun yet so much practise with the conical dart at any distance inside the house can spear a banana

What an entertaining channel AND I have learned so much about trapping rats. Originally I tried to live trap and relocate in the country. Now it's death to the rats. The blow gun works great if you are fast. I'm now engineering a 'tip' trap. They are outside and in the garage but not the house. Otherwise I'd be living with just the dog as my wife would move out immediately. Again thanks.

They should offer this house for overnight stays for adventurers, survival trainers and perhaps ghost hunters.
If a rat is killed, no problem, they have enough of them.
Add a breakfast of cheese, peanut butter, cereal and chocolate milk.
Give a discount for people with rat teeth but forbid cats and dogs to come along.

I always bait my rat traps with peanut butter so the rat sticks around and works at getting all that peanut butter eaten. And then the trap will spring and kill it. Plus if you open a jar of peanut butter in the kitchen it smells the whole kitchen like peanut butter, so it has a pungent smell and attracts rats to it. It's a perfect thing to bait your rat traps with. It's also extremely cheap and just a tiny dab will bait a trap. A small jar could bait 100 or more traps. Hopefully you never need that many. Enjoy your PB&J!!!

the bucket of water traps are the best imo, no food needed. You don't even need anything special, just a bucket with water and they will fall in on their own.
