  • When you hear the word 'Scout' then what sort of images come into your head?
For me, I think about the exploration of remote and rugged places, the types of which only a handful of people are prepared to venture to.
And that is exactly what the feature of this video, the 397 gross tons, 129 ft, 39-metre explorer superyacht Scout II was built for.
Being a true expedition yacht, Scout II was built by Brooke Yachts in the UK in 1993.
She was designed by Terence Disdale and has proven herself to be a thoroughbred world cruising exploration yacht.
When you gaze upon this explorer yacht, you get a sense straight away of what she is capable of.
But what do you think? Let me know in the comments section!

300 ton is a magic number, where yachts end and ships begin. I have a fisherman friend who is very proud of his new 300 ton trawler.

It was originally a very nice 34m yacht with British style veering a little on the quirky. It was asking for €4.15m in 2015. The unnecessary stern extension and reshaping of the bow in 2018 totally spoilt her look and I doubt that the refitting cost $12m-I would demand to see invoices. More like $1.2m-somebody moved the decimal point. Come on, you could build an entire new 34m Dutch yacht for about $12m today. If the yacht had kept her original lines it would have been a very nice 34m explorer for $3.5m. I am not going to pay an extra $6.4m for what amounts to 5m extra length of swim platform. That would make it the most expensive swim platform in the world. The yacht's internal volume remains the same after the swim platform extension and bow reshaping. It was never a 39m yacht to begin with and still isn't. Sorry, I got to call it as I see it. Caveat emptor.

Well, installation of the quantum stabilizers and the HVAC upgrades could easily have cost 4 Mil. The big drawback is that it is underpowered and doesn't have a significant ice rating.

The first place this boat would take me is to Alaska via the inside passage. Though if I had to go through the Panama Canal, I would be happy to do that as well to get there. Well done with the video.

Great apt description of this explorer, my sentiments to a T. I agree entirely regarding explorer yachts, being able to explore this world and having such an aesthetic home to do so from would be my ideal.

Loved the lounge as it looks a lot less cluttered than most. The guest accommodation is elegant but not sure a roll top bath in every stateroom is necessarry though. If only I had the cash!

@@YachtBuoy range is a little shy on this one to be an explorer yacht, but she is a magnificent boat. Classic British influence in the lines..
If you want a true long range yacht..say 9,200 nm ..check out New Zealand built " Big Fish "

Morn'n me ole salty matelot. What a refreshing interior, (you know me), i'm getting to like it. See what can be done without chopping forests' down. To some of these "so called" interior designers i feel it's nigh on impossible for them to get sailboats out of their brain. You know proper yachts with sails. Johnno, will you be the first to stop calling bedrooms or cabins "Staterooms" PLEASE.
A VIP guest stateroom!, heard on another yachting channel, what is that. I'll tell ya, pure pretentious clap as we chinese say. Bedroom or cabin will do, we ALL know what they are. Go on Johnno, you know it makes grownup sense.

    • @YachtBuoy

@@YachtBuoy Oi, Socrates, stop that. If you think it is a stateroom then call it that but woe betide you if there is no Louis X1V furniture, inlaid tables, Belgian tapestries, renaissance paintings and maybe the odd Meissen statuettes. You know, like "staterooms" normally have.

I usually like the Nordhavn expedition yachts between 86 ft and 120 ft. Scout II looks nice too. Would be perfect if it could have a slightly better range (say 4,000 NM)...

  • @easternwoods4378

I'm using the Allseas 92 as a baseline. It has a range of 5000 NM but is a smaller boat. It has accommodation for 4 crew but no private crew mess. IE someone is always underfoot. Has a live aboard galley for use by the owner but nowhere for the crew to eat or escape.
Eight crew is over kill on a 130 footer. Captain, chef and 2 crew is plenty. I'd be happy to stand watch on the bridge during a passage. I enjoy cooking but hate to clean up. I'll do my own laundry. I'd rather have spacious accommodation for four crew than cramped for eight. I want owner and guest accommodation for ten. My preferred is probably 120 to 150 foot, 350 to 400 ton steel hull
