    Official "Texas Wildflower Honey" Lyrics.
    Written by Ron Pope.
    She was born in Virginia,
Packed her bags and came here,
I met her out in the city,
    It was December last year.
She took me home to her apartment,
Made me sleep on the couch,
At least that first couple hours,
    Until she figured me out.
Her lips were as sweet as Texas wildflower honey,
She loved me hard whenever she laid me down,
I swear that I burned, ‘cause she set me on fire,
Always cutting me deep, she was making me bleed,
    Texas wildflower honey.
She took to wearing my jacket,
    ‘Cause that winter was cold,
And I can still smell her perfume,
Just like she’s holding me close.
People ask if I miss her,
I tell ‘em it’s hard to say,
‘Cause we weren’t made for forever,
But we were perfect that way.

Hey Guys, Figured I'd address your concerns! I'm actually (sort of embarrassingly) borrowing from myself here (and a song I wrote and released before Chris put out that record). I wrote a song called "Goodbye" in 2014...we played it more or less exactly like this when we did it live (even though it was super acoustic on the record)...this is what that sounded like live: ua-cam.com/video/dvi8YlDSkc4/v-deo.html Anyway, I got bummed that we didn't record it using that more soul inflected palette, so I just took that arrangement and plugged in some new words and a few new chords...but that's where I got my idea from. Stapleton's recording owes more to Etta James "I'd Go Blind" than it does to either David Allan Coe or George Jones' versions of "Tennessee Whiskey" that came before it, so in my opinion, it's probably not the song itself that you're seeing a relationship in, so much as parts of our arrangements. We're both leaning on some classic soul tricks, for sure. In my case, it's not Etta's recording that came to mind; I hear "That's How Strong My Love Is" from Otis Redding in my arrangement (but less emphatic singing because I'm no Otis Redding). So now you know where this comes from. Thanks for listening. -Rp

The first dance with the man I would fall in love with was to this wonderfully sultry song.

I really like Ron Popes work but I encourage you to listen to Chris Stapleton's Tennessee Whiskey. Songs are too eerily similar!
