  • Dr. Lori Handy explains that when children enter a new environment, they often seem to get a series of illnesses. This is because in new settings, they encounter new viruses and bacteria. In fact, this scenario will happen multiple times in life - when children switch schools, go to summer camp, or travel outside the country and spend time with new groups of people.
However, Dr. Handy reassures parents that this is a temporary phenomenon during each environment change as the immune system learns to recognize more viruses and bacteria.
