    I started playing saxophone in 5th grade and played into college, I'm now 55, and nobody ever taught me some of the information you just gave me! Thank you! You have reinvigorated me! It's now time to have my sax serviced so I can begin playing again. It's been way too long!

    I’ve always taught my students to put on the ligature first and THEN the reed, to avoid accidentally damaging the tip of the reed. I thought I was the only one! Thank you for legitimizing my technique.
    Incredible playing, gentlemen.

    Excellent tutorial and wonderful playing. Especially the perfect unison playing of the jazz standards (without a click or a rhythm section) is breathtaking. And I appreciate the solid no-nonsense approach to learning a musical instrument.

    Did metal mouthpieces used to be a standard for classical saxophone? I always thought of metal pieces as either a pop/funk Sanborn phenomenon, or a Coltrane/Brecker jazz thing. Classical? Wild.

    When doing vibrato, I typically use my diaphragm to shake the air flow and I'm wondering if I am the only one to do it like that?

    • @WitchKing-Of-Angmar
      @WitchKing-Of-Angmar 3 місяці тому

      This is relatively common with approximately 35% of saxophonists, so the likelihood of finding a left handed person if left handed people were slightly more common.

    • @WitchKing-Of-Angmar
      @WitchKing-Of-Angmar 3 місяці тому

      The main style of which one plays in for vibrato is almost typically mouth vibrato (though there are blends of both by each different player... it's important to note that every saxophonist plays uniquely in their own timbre because of the pure variety of those individual players)

    22:50 I don’t know what a low b flat is though. If I don’t know how to put the instrument together, how do I know which note is where? Not to say that I can’t find this somewhere else, but it feels like you’ve skipped a crucial step in this process.
    That said, thank you for this video. It’s very helpful.

    • @silviaespinoza9377
      @silviaespinoza9377 3 роки тому

      if you look closely you can see a bit of the fingering. Low B flat is like a low C (asuming you know low C) but you add one key with the left pinky, is the bottom one of that 4 note "pallet" that you have there. All the pads on the sax should be closed if you are fingering that right, check that out before blowing!

    After 79 years with the sax ,I am enjoying still playing at 87. I have one question.I have a tenor Buescher from the 40's and having difficulty hitting the lower register, say from D down. I had the horn checked out several times with no leaks. However, I played on a similar horn back in the late 50's(not mine), but a Buescher from the 40's with no problem. Can you provide some suggestions how I might overcome this problem? Reed, mouthpiece ? (Still playing jazz in New Orleans)

    • @silva777
      @silva777 2 роки тому +1

      Even if the pads seem like they're all sealed, sometime a weak spring can allow a pad to leak when you're playing the low notes, thus making them more difficult. Make sure all the pads which are held closed with springs are securely closed.
