Too bad when you did travel south ,you could have seen Ichabod Cranes final resting place that's located in Staten Island NY, just a few short blocks from my place in a really old cemetery 🪦
Hey Adam if you’re in New York why not go see the Back to the Future the musical on Broadway? I’m going to see it in London for the 3rd time it’s great you’ll love it, great video btw 👍
Hey Adam, I have lived in Tarrytown for most of my life. Graduated from Sleepy Hollow High School. If you like to read, there is a great series by Richard Greeves re-telling of the Headless Horseman. The first book is titled Rise Headless and Ride. You will find all the places you visited.
Right near the spot where you noted the trees, houses and train sound (Metro North train) is where I scattered the ashes of a dear friend. He loved trains. I didn't even think how you can hear them from there. 🥹 We loved Tarrytown and now he will always be a part of it. Thank you for this episode.🙏
HEY ATW...GROWING UP, I ALWAYS LISTENED TO THE "Legend of Sleepy Hollow" on a vinyl record. Y'know, the Disney treatment of the story on a record from the "Wonderful World of Disney". So cool that you took us to the REAL Sleepy Hollow!
Aaaah! This is a BIG one for me thank you again Adam the Woo!👊 Love Sleepy Hollow, headless horseman, Washington Irving, just ... all of it man, all of it haha. I first learned about Washington Irving when I watched and fell in love with Disney's animated film when I was a kid, and I've become a fan of the author's entire life and work too, ever since. Irving is of course most famous around Halloween for having penned the great American ghost story, but FUN FACT! fewer know that he was also obsessed with St Nicolas and Christmastime! Irving is credited for having first introduced the imagery of a rooftop hopping Santa Claus to the U.S., and his romanticized writings about Christmas festivities repopularized many Old English traditions for the "new country". Irving's work inspired Charles Dickens, and he basically revived the way we celebrate Christmas today. Halloween AND Christmas, how friggin cool is that?! 🥰
Thank you , Adam !!.....I don't know how many times , I went over the Tappanzee Bridge and Never stopped in Sleepy Hollow.......I Really Appreciate you showing the Town and the Legend to all of US !!....Have a Safe Trip...Take Care...
Seeing as you're a big fan of filming locations, the crypt you show at 18:01 marked 1900 was used as the Collins mausoleum in the 1970 horror movie "House of Dark Shadows" starring Joan Bennett and Jonathan Frid. It was based on the 1966-71 daytime gothic soap opera.
What a fabulous old Cemetary you visited. Besides Irvine being laid to rest there, there are also many other notables such as William Rockafeller, Walter Chrysler, Samuel Gompers and Leona Helmsley.......Thanks for the Great Tour!!
This is one of my all-time favorite posts. Great job taking us along on this journey. I really felt immersed in the town and your experience. Keep up the great work! 🎃
As an English teacher, I tried to time the class reading of the story with Halloween. Kids thought the story was frightening! I visited Sleepy Hollow in October one year on a miserable cold and rainy day...perfect atmosphere for retracing the steps of Ichabod. On your next visit, you should visit Irving's home, Sunnyside. He loved trains and New York and he wrote the history of New York in which the nick name Knickerbockers evolved. Loved the video, such fun and interesting. Keep up the great work!
I felt like I was watching a friend’s vacation with this video. Trying to feign interest just to be nice, however, I stopped watching when he was filming his coffee because I realized I wasn’t stuck being polite to a friend.
Love visiting Sleepy Hollow around every Halloween. Washington Irving’s grave is very accessible. Also in that cemetery, there’s a crypt where they filmed some episodes of the Dark Shadows tv show.
The village of Sleepy Hollow is so picturesque, I especially enjoyed where the original bridge was suppose to be , also the shot of the roof tops through the fall foliage and the train horn. Did you notice that on the stone for North Tarrytown the headless horseman clearly has a head covered with his cape. In most pictures the headless horseman appears to be scary and headless. In this the joke played is humorously revealed.
Adam, I hope while you were in the cemetery, that you visited the real graves of those that inspired the characters in the Sleepy Hollow story. They are in the area around the church. Along with Carnegie, there's also the famous graves of William Rockefeller and Walter Chrysler. Also The Ramones filmed the music video for Pet Sematary in Sleepy Hollow 😊
Adam, so SPOOKY, AWESOME and COOL! Really enjoyed your awesome video of Sleepy Hollow! Love the headless horseman! Continuing to catch up on all your videos.
Wow, what a cool video. Thank you for taking us along. Oh my goodness it is so beautiful there. I would love to see that cemetery and that bridge you found that’s amazing!! Thank you again!
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow with Jeff Goldblum scared me as a child! Thought it was real! I do love the story and now it’s just a lot of fun and puts you in the spirit! 😊
Awesome video Adam! I live not too far from here and visit frequently. Love Sleepy Hollow! The Old Cemetery is the best for exploring. The vibes at that cemetery are like nothing else. So much history❤❤❤
The one thing that everyone misses about the Legend of Sleepy Hollow is Washington Irving basically admitted (as the short story's narrator in the final chapter) that the whole Headless Horseman legend was a ruse perpetrated by Bram Bones to scare Ichabod Crane away from the village. Just as importantly, to also scare Ichabod away from being a suitor to the woman Bram Bones intended to marry. The novel was basically a story about Dutch ingenuity in problem-solving, albiet the Headless Horseman was an elaborate (but very effective) scheme by Bram Bones. ;)
Irving is one of my favorite authors. I adore his writing. I had to write a pretty in depth character analysis in my American Lit class in my undergrad on Rip Van Winkle. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is by far my favorite of his work. This video is incredible. I was nerding out so hard, Adam. Thanks for showing us this awesome place.
I truly love these "on the road" vlogs. You highlight things I would do on a trip. I have been to Sleepy Hollow around Halloween and was really cool. Seen the headless horseman there. I remember lots of "stained glass" art. Thanks Adam. Brought back some nice memories. As Rick Steves always says "Keep On Traveling"
I grew up in the 1960's on the Disney albums with accompanying colour picture books from the corresponding movies, n of course, The Headless Horseman was one of the GREATEST!!!! " Lock all your windows, lock all your doors, the headless horseman wants yours"! Bing Crosby sang the songs in the movie n I have extremely fond memories of Sleepy Hollow n the Headless Horseman n Ichabod Crane, Washington Irving 's best ever!!! Thank you for showing us the real town!! Gorgeous Fall scenery!!!
I love that you went there, such a cool village, great find of the old bridge! have to plan a trip there (I live in CT, so it is not a bad drive). I love your tours!
Adam! Glad you got to Sleepy Hollow finally. My wife and I made the trek ourselves just a few years ago on one of our fall roadtrips. It was fantastic! Great town, great little main street and restaurants, etc. Thanks for taking us along for another glimpse! Also, side note: When we went to the graveyard, we saw the sign for the Headless Horseman and then just a few minutes later we heard a horse snort/cry out, but never saw one anywhere around us. Spooky indeed...
Contrary to what is aired in certain venues, THIS is the New York I know and live in. 95% of New York is like this, quiet, picturesque small-town America, farming communities and classic America. Been to Sleepy Hollow. Down at the original bridge the threaded metal rod you found was used to raise and lower sluice gates for water control. The cemetery has reenactments on the anniversary that the Carpetbagger has attended. There used to be a huge GM plant in Tarrytown that closed down back in the 80's. I recall watching that animation on Walt Disney Wonderful World of Color. Also, the "real" Ichabod Crane is buried in NJ or Staten Island. A lot of NY cemeteries have Carnegies and Rockefellers. These are the "Men Who Built America" as portrayed in the History Channel mini-series. If you love the leaves, you can come to my house and help me clean mine up. Thanks for the great video!
Hey Adam don’t feel bad that in your 49yrs this was the first time you were here! I’ve lived in NY all my life (I’m 55) & have never been until October 6th of this year & I only live 2hrs away 😝… really loved it!
Hello Adam! My husband and I are enjoying your road advenure through Massachusetts, and New York. He's from Worcester, Massachusetts. He loves the sights, but couldn't take the weather there, still he misses everything around Boston. We've been enjoying all your vlogs a long time, and says wait for me to watch The Woo, but I usually won't and watch twice😀🤗 You've become our daily routine!😁
Adam you were so right this was a great place to check out and the whole area was so beautiful and it was nice to learn some historical facts about that area also the original bridge even though it was a broken was a sight to see and the river running under the old bridge was gorgeous but what I thought really added to that town was that cemetery you went to I mean it really did have that special look to it, so I will say visiting Sleepy Hollow was well worth it now with that peace ☮️ love ❤️ and happiness to you Adam and I’ll see you on the next awesome vlog adventure peace ☮️ out ✌️
What a nice way to wake up my sleepy eyes, and seeing a nicce video of Sleepy Hollow.A beautiful little town, i love all the nice colors of the trees.Adam you are full of suprises we never know where you are going to take us next. From Universal Jamie.
Oh my gosh one of my favorite places! I loved in CT for several years and would make a visit to Sleepy Hollow each fall season. Next time, definitely go to Sunnyside, Washington Irving’s home. Sleepy Hollow Refreshments in WDW MK is modeled after it. Great tours and history. The Great Jack O Lantern Blaze is amazing too, along with Phillipsburg Manor and the other history sites in the area. They do excellent events around Halloween. Can’t wait for you to visit for All Hallows Eve one year!
Man what a vlog and what a cemetery. Small plot of land has some of America's heavy hitters buried there. You missed Rockefeller, Chrysler and Helmsley. A relatively small piece of land with multiple billion dollar families there. Crazy. You can't tell the history of America without Carnegie, Rockefeller or probably Chrysler and there are all buried within a few hundred yards of each in the little village of Sleepy Hallow. So cool.
Wow grate video I love the story of the headless horseman thanks would love to go there someday but now it seems like I've already been there thanks addam.
Well, I've added another bucket list to travel to this location. Just got back from Washington DC visit, now back in So. CA. Thanks Adam! This is too cool!
