While packing, she broke down and cried b/c mom wanted to throw away her food she'd stored! Cans were bulging! She threw it away at night while she was sleeping ... I honestly think you have less than a year. If you are not established and you do not have heirloom seeds from past years for your area. I believe you're going to have a tough time. Root crops are a must in my opinion. Chickens and we know if we've been paying attention they are attacking them. Rabbits. You know the saying they breed like rabbits. But you have to be able to provide your own food to feed them so that you can feed yourself and your family. This is a daunting task. And I am old. I only hope younger people are paying attention. I do my best to teach them what I know but this is extremely difficult in this time we live in. Oh and I almost forgot. You're r going to need a greenhouse. And if you follow the suspicious observers channel. You might need an ark.

Any healthy adult with even a little land can grow a tremendous amount of food, which can be started in any given year. What can't be started so quickly is building the knowledge and supplies/equipment/storage needed to do so and preserve it. I often tell folks that I can grow and preserve enough food for my family, but the diet would initially be very boring. It is this aspect that I'm now concentrating on, particularly developing perennial food sources. I try to improve my security every year. Last year's major project was a wood shed addition to the barn to hold 12 cords of wood, which is now just about full, representing 2+ years of heating. My range top now uses propane, which of course you can stockpile and doesn't require electricity to work. Similarly I now have a farm gas tank that I cycle fresh fuel through, which with some rationing on my part is enough for about a year of use. Since I'm in my 70s I don't expect to reap a lot of the benefits I'm working on, but it will be there for subsequent generations if needed.

Speaking of 2020, I remember going to the grocery store when ALL the flour was gone, but the yeast, baking soda/powder and even the salt was untouched, clearly no one knew how to use that flour they grabbed in fear. A better investment than flour without yeast powder soda or even salt would have been Bibles, yet again few panic who own and use one.

Not only can we demonstrate resistance to fear but working with joy and peace for life affirming processes and results. Just In Time (JIT) logistics is a corporate enhancement for profits but is woefully inadequate for disruptions. Maybe we can imagine and refine "De-Corporating" ourselves in all areas of life immune support, food preservation and production, land conservation and defense, off grid energy production, etc etc. Classic methods coupled with modern science could yield exciting results. Most importantly, we need each other there's a lot of damage our reliance on technology has done to us socially and a Spiritual revival will bring us together in love and respect. Let's occupy!

Likewise. Until recently. I dropped my insurance I honestly think the way things are going it will not be paid there is too much devastation and the insurance companies cannot pay now. They certainly will not be able to pay later. As far as preps go. That's your insurance.

Just now subscribed to your newsletter and guide.
I was lucky growing up with people who can be considered the last of the old time pioneers in the Pacific Northwest and Montana. I'm 69 my Great Grandmother died in the 60's in her late 90's my Grandparents (Scots and American) started out life with horse drawn equipment and travel. Both Grand Dads fought in WW1 and lived through the Great Depression with my parents as children doing what today is called "Prepping" or "Survivalisim". This was a normal way of life on both sides of the Atlantic. I was raising my own Sheep as a 4-H project while my Scots Dad was a Ranch hand or Cowboy on various ranching and farming operations my American Mom grew up in the Idaho mountains and Eastern Oregon and Eastern Washington learning to hunt, Fish. At 20 she got into Nursing later she became a food scientist making recipes that are still in use for major nationwide food production companies. They still grew gardens and put by food until they couldn't anymore. This was a way of life for them and not a movement.
Thanks for your efforts. Your passion and willingness to learn and share your knowledge is exactly what our Nation(s) need right now. Keep doing what you're doing.

It seems like half the homes in the Midwest have some level of garden in the backyard. Gardens provide many benefits. The vegetables are more nutritious than those from industrial producers. You can't buy vegetables that fresh. It's fun and saves money.
Gardening also has a lot of synergies with animals. Chickens can turn rotten tomatoes into fresh eggs. Goats seem to prefer freshly pulled weeds over any other food. Spring is when wasted hay and used bedding become garden mulch. Manure is better than most fertilizers and spreading it on a garden is a second chance to absorb purchased nutrients.
