    Zoey's life is unrelatable.
    She grew up in a rich family and she was spoiled HEAVILY. She abandoned her friend for popularity [Ana]. Three boys were fighting over her and she choose Luka for unknown reasons. Became a fashion designer or something idk. She got mad at Ana because she started dating Aaron [EVEN THOUGH SHE WAS DATING LUKA] and it took two episodes for her to apologise [because of pride]. Then she kissed Aaron. Then she dropped out.

      @@chowderscrib Not to excuse the bad writing, but I feel like that is a part of figuring out what being grown is. As a college student I've had multiple conversations discussing complicated issues in which we never actually answer the questions we are asking because we can't. We're still hella young and trying to figure things out. We don't have the answers. Shit, most grown ass adults don't. I feel like Grown-ish can occupy this space about being a Black girl in college without having to be all about Black and social issues because at the end of the day everyone's experience is different and there is not one way to be Black in a space. The writers could definitely handle things better, but you can't solve complicated issues like colorism, police violence, and mental health in a 22 minute episode.

And before you say they cut her off they did no such thing. They still paid all essential bills. Everything else like her japanese candy subscription has to be funded by her. She is not a broke college student. But yeah her hair being done up differently everyday??? That's not realistic even if you have money. The best you can give us is the look of the week. I mean I keep my hair braided up the entire semester because it is way too much work to even style it every week. Again the show is not being realistic at all. As a white person, I really wish these producers would stop assuming that we (the white audience) wouldn't watch a show with a minority lead, and that they have to white-wash everything for us. It feels insulting - they're assuming that we're either completely dumb, or as racist as they are. Even if I can't personally relate to a character (obviously, if the show is specifically about the black experience, I won't be able to relate to that) I can still enjoy the show and enjoy seeing a story and an experience that's different to my own. jonae moore it’s called featurism. Darker skinned women who play larger roles tend not to have Afrocentric features or they may have Eurocentric features as well in the mix with their Afro features. Which for the average black girl is hard to look up to because they don’t look like them. But that’s my opinion so 🤷🏾‍♀️

    • @Tia-db9zn
      @Tia-db9zn 4 роки тому +78

      gfoot99 but “centric” is the right suffix to use here. The features don’t necessarily belong to Europe so therefore, they aren’t European. A lot of Europeans have those features but so do a lot of non-europeans. Hence “centric”

    • @gfoot9916
      @gfoot9916 4 роки тому +1

      Randomness 101 a black woman wearing their hair straight is “Eurocentric”. Because they chose to do that. A white woman having naturally curly hair isn’t “Afrocentric”. Because they didn’t choose to do that. That suffix is only used when someone actively makes a choice to look some way.

    • @lizymissy
      @lizymissy 4 роки тому +64

      gfoot99 Eurocentric beauty standards means centered around or focused on European culture and ideals. I don’t understand why you are arguing about something like this. I think one of the biggest problems with Grown-ish, overall, is its inability to juggle big issues and its actual story. Like, even if I don’t agree or think it’s the best message, sometimes it feels like an episode is about to make an interesting statement... and then boom, it makes it about one character or some personal drama. Someone makes a good argument, but it turns out they’re a hypocrite, which completely undermines it, or someone is mad about bigotry, but actually, they’re mad about something else

  • @Caroline-jr1ts
    @Caroline-jr1ts 4 роки тому +44

    When ever zoey’s in a “bad/sad” situation I’ve quickly released that it’s always caused by the fact that she is soooo selfish (which honestly makes you have zero sympathy for her) and I think it’s partly due to her parents especially her dad (in black-ish) because he puts her on such a high pedestal compared to every other child in that family and its made her have such a big head growing up because everything evolved around her growing up ( she has even mentioned it herself in episodes in black-ish and it’s shown through her interactions with her parents, siblings and friends) . Character development NEEDS to happen real soon cause she’s let so many people down due to her selfishness and not being able to tap into how her actions effect others. It’s literally becoming so draining and annoying watching her character go through the same selfish loop but with a new friend every season.
