    Canadian aviation is the classic Dash 8! It will be a sad day with only a few left...

    I love the air Canada express dash 400 because I’ve been flying on that type of plane for years and the nostalgia hit when I heard the plane take off

    I’ve been watching your videos for a while now. They are pretty interesting and love seeing the different airlines and trip reports and scenery. I didn’t know there were actually people who fly just for fun from one route to another or to just take a plane ride. I’m from BC and I do the same only with Ferries as I’m a ferry enthusiast. I do love flying though too.

    I remember flying the Dash 400 for the first time in 2020, my very first flight in Canadian airspace! Brings back memories watching your videos given that these aren’t flying around as much as they used to!

    My life before marriage was flying in and out of Sudbury every Christmas, landing in a Dash 8-100/300. And the never ending cold from my earlier life there. Come in the summer, Alex, you’ll never want to leave (except in late September haha).

    Ahhh YYZ-YTS, my semi-monthly commute :) as much as it was sad to see the DH8-100/300 retire, upgauging to the 400 and having 78 seats makes it easier to get on for those of us traveling standby on flight passes. Next time you're in Timmins, you should see if you can get a flight on Thunder! We'll get you some nice views :)

    Thank you for the aerial view of my hometown of Sudbury. I even (almost) saw the house I grew up in :) It was fantastic as you panned from the airport to the actual city. I saw the Superstack and the lakes I frolicked in in my youth, as well as the snow-covered "mountains" I used to pick the most tasty blueberries on the planet. For some trivia, all those straight snow-covered white lines you see cut through the bush are for the many, many right-of-ways for the power lines leading to the smelter, as smelting takes up a LOT of electricity.

    On July 2nd I flew into Pearson for the 1st time. It's a pretty cool airport. I saw a parked Emirates A380 and a Volga Dnepr An-124 which was pretty cool. Thanks for the great video.

    The Dash 8 seat belt buckles were cool. Jazz stopped using them due to the ‘LIFT’ that was etched on them. It was only in English and had no French. So they were replaced in favor of plain buckles with nothing on them.

    YQT Is my closest airport with commercial flights. Very familiar with the terminal 1 ground loading gates. I’ve always hate how crowded it is but at the same time I often bump into to someone I know and that is always kind of fun.
    T3 WestJet Encore gates are bad too and it is often a far far walk.
    Thanks again for a great video / trip report.

    Yup - used to live in the far north of Ontario - know Timmins, Cochrane, Hearst and the area. Minus 30 is good but have seen it go much lower. Try a flight to Moosonee next! And is Bearskin Airlines still around?

    Great video Alex, but as a Viscount traveller from a bye gone era or the 'golden age', flying in a Dash 8 - 400 is a complete down-grade in the passenger comfort experience. I think YTS would have been a Viscount destination until retiral of the type?

    I'd be interested to hear your behind the scenes experience filming these trips. Are all your videos on cell phone or camera? What are your interactions with crew and passenger like when trying to get footage? How do you maintain relationships with various airlines and get on with special flights?

    Might be a weird question but where should I sit in a Q400 if I want to hear the engines as loudly as possible?

  • @smallmj2886
    @smallmj2886 2 роки тому

    I've heard that the preferred seats don't have any extra leg room. other than the exit rows. And the exit rows lose width to the arm-rest tray-table. Meaning there are no comfortable seats on an AC Q400. They'd be a great plane to fly if they had some seats with enough room for an adult.

    Great trip report video! I know that Bombardier sold the CRJ and Q400 lines to another company in Canada, so I don’t know if new Q400s are being made anymore.

    • @Dexter037S4

      53 Q400s are left on the order book, the replacement is likely the Embraer Turboprop as the ATR is still unsafe for Canada.

    So I was wondering what Timmins is like in July? probably nice and cool compared to the US Midwest. I would love to fly there someday. Air Canada has a hub right here in Cincinnati.

      Being from North Bay, 4 hours south of Timmins, that part of northern Ontario is surprisingly warm.Summers don’t last long though but it gets to 30c(90f) some times.Big issue are the black flies.Pesky and they bite.

    How do those planes ride versus something like a 737? I’m always paranoid that I’ll get motion sickness from being bumped around. Even going from from a 737-300 on Canadian North to a 737-700 on Westjet to work makes a big difference in terms of general smoothness.

    • @ryandymond2195

      I've flown on the Dash-8-400 at least 10 times. They are very smooth.

    • @DMSparky
      @DMSparky 2 роки тому +1

      I get motion sick relatively easily and I personally haven’t had any issues in a Dash. I have had issues in smaller planes. The dash is just a bit loud by modern standards still good planes.

    • @waynejohnstone3685
      @waynejohnstone3685 2 роки тому

      I’m in ysb and the dash 8 is a staple. Very smooth ride but they’re loud and vibrate a lot. One time there was a smashing against the fuselage in the winter that got everyone concerned. Turns out it was the de icing equipment - the props were throwing ice lol. Bunch of other minor incidences. very safe plane with great record.

    Great video!!! I recently saw that AC is looking to take out some of their Q400's next year, bringing the fleet to 36. Curious if they will look to add more jets to replace the outgoing turbo props. Chorus did merge with Falko so maybe the can find some CRJ's or ERJ's to maintain capacity?

    • @briankenney1433
      @briankenney1433 2 роки тому

      According to to a buddy talking to maintenance a couple of the older planes have heavy maint. checks and they are just chucking them out instead of doing them. Jazz will have 113 aircraft with 85 minimum in their contract so perhaps they will not be replaced?

    • @aselwyn1
      @aselwyn1 2 роки тому

      @@briankenney1433 according to the AC investor fillings they got rid of 4 in 2021 but are only scheduled to remove 3 and keeping the remaining 36 through 2023.

    • @nicholasstanton1150
      @nicholasstanton1150 2 роки тому

      @@aselwyn1 that makes a lot of sense. Still hope they seek to replace these with other aircraft to maintain capacity but we will have to wait and see!

    I am tracking a series of flights my 23 year old nephew from Dallas will be taking to join us on Regional Jazz flights through Montreal in early August to Saint John NB where we have a cottage and hope to find some cooler weather. There are quite a few weekly cancellations because they don't operate the evening flight down to DFW and YSJ connections are often delayed. I have also advised him TO HAND CARRY HIS BAG as there are horror stories in Montreal. WHERE IS "THIS HOUR HAS 22 MINUTES " WITH ORIGINAL CAST MEMBER MARY WALSH FROM NF

    The 4k is nice but this video is under-filmed and over narrated in my opinion. Would have been nice to see more walking up and boarding the aircraft. Way too many random cuts and back to the talking.
