Miguel, after that, said, "Cry me a shocking river" lol But, he does save MJ because he admires Spiderman and feels Spiderman deserves to have what he wants after the times he sacrificed his life.
Man, I love the idea of canon events so much because it represents the writers of the Spiderman comics making Peter suffer over and over again throughout the years. It's a joke in the fandom at this point that writers love making peter suffer. And to take that and make it a central element of the story is kind of brilliant. That was my take away from it, anyways.
I believe that uncle ben still alive in somewhere. Its multiverse infinit posiblity. And yes uncle ben still alive in spirit spider universe which make this canon event is not make sense
I'm so glad they used Josh Keaton as Spidey here. It's nice to know that he played the role outside of just Spectacular Spider-Man. His voice was too good to to be cut short.
That speech is something the other Spideys(1994 and MCU) needed to hear too. Plus saying the words "Not my Problem" is indeed a Spider-Man curse in the multi-verse.
Am I the only one that really loves spot , because of how he looks he wasn’t taken seriously and got treated as just joke like he didn’t mater and didn’t belong then he became a villain that not only threatens miles but threatens all of the Spider-Man and it could have all been avoided if miles took time away from thinking about himself and actually attempted to help this guy who’s life he ruined
The sad part is that mentality is also the reason why Spiderman can't really have a happy ending besides the writer wanting to fuck up spidermen. 2099's realism vs peter's idealism
Ironically Miguels tend to have pretty good endings. In Manifest Destiny, the sort of ending to the original 2099 universe, he marries his childhood sweetheart Xina and grows old with her after having lead the world into a new era of prosperity. All New All Different Miguel, after getting murder in 2015 and being revived by Strange in 2099 eventually went back in time again to settle down with his girlfriend and their son. Exiles Miguel became the cook at a restaurant he opened up with Mary Jane and they got engaged (he did get killed by Morlun but would have been brought back after Morlun's death, so his current situation is up in the air.) The pattern seems to be "Miguel suffers his entire life until he finally gets a happily ever after with his lady of choice."
After Uncle Ben, he does not want to lose his loved ones anymore, neither he wants anyone else to go through that, So With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility,THAT is Spider-Man. But Miguel always sees the bigger picture. The interaction is just amazing honestly, it's like flip sides of the coin.
It's not about having enough to deal with about being spiderman. It's about carrying the weight to save everyone and he learns this lesson because he didn't save uncle Ben so he saves everyone that needs to be saved
This is the only complaint I have with ATSV tbh; it is way too OOC for them to just sit there and do nothing (and even going so far as to prevent people from doing something). Most (if not all) of them would never just sit there and knowingly let an innocent man die, even if it's at the threat of destroying a whole universe. They would never compromise, not even in the face of armageddon. The real Spider-Man would side with Miles in a heartbeat.
@@whyamihere5835 it doesn't matter. Even if they are burdened with this fact the real Spider-Man would still choose to help because that's what he does. That's his charm. He starts out as a cynical. egotistical jackass with a slight hint of human decency, and once he becomes Spider-Man he gradually becomes a better person.
That’s why Miguel doesn’t tell anyone about canon events until after they happen. Because it’s much easier to convince someone that an event was necessary for their existence, than it is to convince Spider-Man not to save someone.
It also seems like a great way for Miguel to become his own canon event after telling a Spidey that Ben/Gwen/Jeff/MJ/May/etc had to die and that it's important for their growth as a spiderman. Seems like a good way to get an overly emotional Peter or other Spidey who decides in that very moment to not hold back and punch a hole through his chest. Because the best way to get your point across is to basically rub it into the face of a grieving and emotional teen with super strength.
The reason the spider society didn't help miles is because they experienced miguels universe being destroyed, you can see them trying to save the people in the background, but they couldn't, that's why they don't want to risk Miles universe being erased too, because once it starts they can't do anthing about it
They shouldn't have messed with the multiverse, if there is no interference from outside of their universe then these canon events would've happened sooner or later. I hate the fact that people are blaming Miguel for the suffering of the other Spidermen when in truth he might not even be in their universe when it happened as they're too busy dealing with anomalies that threaten the canon events. The only reason why Miles has a chance of rescuing his father is because he knew of his canon event due to him being exposed to the multiverse, if not then he wouldn't even be there to save them like most of the Spidermen are. And I'm tired of people making excuses about what happened to the Indian Spiderman's universe, seeing as how prepared they are to contain the void, I say these kinds of things happened a lot of times thus backing Miguel's reason for stopping Miles. Miguel witnessed a lot of Universes destruction, not only that universe where he pretended to be the Miguel of that Universe.
Tbf, ATSV miguel literally watched his daughter die and learned that if he alters a reality in a way that completely changes its course, it ends badly. Edge of time is an exception since, timelines are breaking.

Exactly! Spider-Man, and spider verse can be summed in in Pav’s scene when he tries to save the bridge “I can do both!” That’s what Spider-Man does, hopeless lost Cause or not, he doesn’t lay down and let shit happen, Miguel lost his way, sure some things might need to happen eventually, but he should never just sit back and let them
Dude EOT 2099 and Peter should show up in BTSV to be that sort of middle ground for Miles and have him realize that there are other spidermen in the multiverse that feel the same way he does
Now that I think about it, it’s kind of crazy. Everyone kept going on and on about “the hardest part of the job is that you can’t save everyone.” but what makes Spider-Man Spider-Man is that he’ll always try. That’s why he’s a hero.
Might as well make this a running gag with Miguel at this point like even if the comic was supposed to be a light hearted joke about Peter dropping a pizza and going back in time to stop himself from dropping it. Miguel just shows up and starts throwing hands
Oh god, this game was a part of my childhood, and yeh, Across the Spider-Verse has made this scene and others like it in other Spider-Man media meen alot more
Can we agree 2099 Spider-Man is a “bad” guy only in today’s standards of a hero but in 2099 it’s usually depicted as worse than ever before in many ways so he’s more likely a product of his environment or victim of circumstance
2099 is not a bad guy so much as he's a massive dick who becomes less of a dick after becoming Spider-Man. And yes, I understand why he would be a dick since his entire life has beena trauma conga line. Hell, I think the reason he's constantly boasting about how smart he is is because he was literally raised to think his intelligence was the only thing about him that mattered.
I think both Miles and Miguel are correct in their own way First(according to Miles): if I have a chance to save someone who I know about to die I will try hard to save him it's the first thing about being a spiderman Secondly(according to Miguel): if I try to change the past it may bring some bad consequences [like Griffin in Nen in black said "when ever there is death, death always happen"/ or ancient one explain Bruce baner consequences of changing past/ MCU Tom's Peter try to change his fate as a result death of his Aunt May] What I try to say that both have their own consequences which can lead to a disaster later
Yeah both are in the right. Miles wants to do everything but Miguel doesn’t want to lose a universe because Miles tried and failed. Hard to see which side is actually the villain of the whole story.
@@GodKillerBetrix Racism, Ignorance, Believing he's a Fake Spider-Man some Mistake because the antagonist is another Spider-Man his word is supposedly divine law now lol, Because he's not Peter or Miguel, Because they can't understand that Miles isn't acting selfish he's truly an advocate for Spider-Man MUST try to save both, Believing because he's an Anomaly he's a threat...Despite him being a Hero and it's even more noble to have chosen and worked so hard to be one when even fate declared you should be a criminal like your uncle, Some people believe that if you have criminal relatives you must be rotten too. There are so many wild takes why people dislike Miles both before and after the film. He will always be given this hate as well because the real world is a hostile and intolerant place. Which the writers know this and couldn't care less as Rio said it's not about them. They're not Spider-Man they're not actually accepting the impact and nuance of Miles story and character. They don't care to learn so just ignore them and remember the truth...Miles is just as valid a Spider-Man as Peter as Miguel as anyone. Stan Lee the literal creator and 616 Peter the hero people are worshipping both agree with that sentiment. Literally the entire moral themes of the series are to showcase you're not defined but what others think or feel, You're not a failure if you're flawed you're a person and if you go on to improve and use your talents for good regardless of the suffering thrown towards you...Yep that's a Hero that's what Spider-Man is.
@@GodKillerBetrixbecause we dont need to change the future, Miles always wanted to change it, and he's destroying the future. Miguel OHara is from the future of every Peter Parker SpiderMan
Trying to do both is what spider man is. In this aspect Miles is more of a spider man than Miguel is. Success isn't what makes spider man, it's trying even when it's hopeless, getting up even when you can't.

@@justasalamander2621 True, it really is a clash a philosophies here, I think Miguel's and Miles' are the extreme of both sides. Miguel being that no universe by itself is important including his own, instead the whole multiverse is what's important. They're both not wrong but I don't think Miguel is completely right about the way canon events work as there's some inconsistencies with what does and doesn't cause a universe to break down.
This is exactly what i said when i saw across the spiderverse Spider-Man will never let someone die intentionally especially if he knows he can save then. That's what makes Spider-Man the best superhero next to superman.
For the third movie I wonder if there's going to be like a Spiderman Civil War with Spidermen that'll do whatever it takes to save everyone vs Miguel's army of Spiderman that try to fit the "cannon" events.
I hope so too and that we see madame web take charge. After all her and 90s spider where the first to do the hole spider verse thing. And after all she know that sometime fate can be changed. She went to give 90s spider his happy ending
This always bugged me about how Peter handled things in Across the Spider-Verse! I was expecting Peter to confront Miguel like this or something, have him be the adult in the room, setting a good example for Mayday, inspiring the other Spiders, etc.
Yup, same can be said to countless lives that are being risk if you save that single person, you says "spiderman don't trade lives" here you are risking your own lives every single day for the sake of others, if your lover/families knew saving their lives is at the cost of countless death, do you think they would like that ?
Hot take. I feel like people are forgetting what happens when the canon is broken. This isn’t like some clubhouse rule that it has to happen or you’re not really a Spider-Man. The whole universe dies. Maybe I won’t happen. Maybe they can stop it but are you really willing to gamble on this? Of course. You cannot expect anyone Spider-Man, or not to save someone important to them especially a family member. So this is much tougher decision on both fronts, I understand.
Well Josh Keaton himself thought it made sense that Spectacular Spidey would follow and look up to Miguel. He gave him hope that everything he suffered through mattered.
Im actually surprised edge of time wasnt referenced in the movie. I'm ESPECIALLY SURPRISED SHATTERED DIMENSIONS was never referenced in the two spiderverse movies
We need Spider-Man 90's literally the very start of the concept. Then the Video Games of Shattered and Edge. Who would either be team Miles clapping literally everyone while describing in detail they're all just copies of copies of actual heroes. "Mistakes" if one were to be a negative nancy. Or they'd be rational explaining in detail that canon events either don't exist or aren't what they believe. Also all three live action movies Spidey's would support Miles. Comic 616 would support Miles knowing for a fact canon doesn't matter and is complete bs if followed which he's learnt the hard way...Then we really got to see some clapped checks as the actual Goat comes into play to state that Anomaly is more Spider-Man than a whole society of these wannabes. Finally Madam Web comes in and says everyone is a child and she's now going to spit some facts across their entire multiverse to explain that everyone is wrong and right things aren't what they appear to be at first glance.
People clown on Miguel’s logic in Across The Spiderverse a lot, but there is actually a very good reasoning built into his character. It’s not that his motives make no sense, it’s that he refuses to see that they make no sense. He’s given up on being Spider-Man, but doesn’t know what to do without that, so he defaults to maintaining the status quo, even despite the possibility of something much better, simply because he doesn’t want to have hope anymore. Miguel does not want to have hope, just to see it get crushed again, and that’s his driving force. The whole point of the character is that he’s a Spider-Man whose lost his way, and is dragging the rest of them down with him, but Miles is the opposite, lifting everyone back up, hence why we see the ones who interacted with him before choosing to leave Miguel’s side at the end of the movie. They are the Spider-People who have seen the light, Miles’s light, a light that overpowers the darkness that Miguel reminded them they had. Heck, this whole thing even fits with the two spider people who didn’t fight against Miles, with Hobie choosing to leave, not being affected by the stances of other people, and hence never loosing his way because of Miguel, and then you have the Indian Spider-Man (Who I admittedly forgot the name of), who never experienced his canon events, and hence has no darkness for Miguel to bring back out, and remains as much Spider-Man as ever. TL;DR: Miguel’s logic is horrible, and that’s the entire point of his character
No, it's just that all movie goers are wrong and don't understand that the Peter Parker model doesn't dictate how Spider-Man should act. When Miguel was created in 1992, he was the very first alternate Spider-man. The only other variant, was Peter's clone Ben Reilly, but he was merely a clone. Meaning. There was no such a thing as Spider-Man has to act THIS way, or THAT way. Both Peter and Miguel were THE Spider-Man of their timeline. Miguel being created to be the alternate possibility of Peter. He is a perfect foil. Peter was a bullied nerd who became a hero after loosing his uncle. Miguel was the chief engineer in Alchemax, who didn't care about anything but his job. Becoming a hero after developing the serum that would change his DNA and save his life. Peter has synthetic spider powers, whithout changing his body much, Miguel has physical spider powers which comes from the fact that he is part-spider. There is no such a thing as "Miguel is not a Spider-Man" when the other Spider-man who lazily copy Peter Parker's qualities, didn't even exist when Miguel was created. So MIguel is actually more of a Spider-man than them.

Theres also that universe where Ben got bitten by the spider instead of Peter as shown in the Spiderverse comic series
Those writers exist because of toxic fans, the kind of people that think a good Spider-Man has to constantly suffer
@@thebcwonder4850um. Do those even exist? Because I've never seen one.
And I've seen a lot more people on the other side of the fence.
@@Eshtian Hi-Top, for one
Once again the things I got bullied for as a kid are the things that are popular today
they're just missing out the fun before coz it was different
The whole point of Uncle Ben as a "canon event" is that you can never stand by and do nothing
Edge of time was my favorite game in terms of story and I’m so happy it’s been brought back due to the movie
Exiles Miguel became the cook at a restaurant he opened up with Mary Jane and they got engaged (he did get killed by Morlun but would have been brought back after Morlun's death, so his current situation is up in the air.)
The pattern seems to be "Miguel suffers his entire life until he finally gets a happily ever after with his lady of choice."
Fun fact: Spider-Man 2099 in Edge of Time was voiced by Spider-Man from the 1994 series
Christopher Daniel Barnes
This whole scene; the music, voice acting, visuals, and the emotion it represents is Amazing and Spectacular.
The true spiderman, with the true heart of never giving up,
Theres a reason why Miguel never recruited any Spider that would stand against him. The second Gwen did he tossed her without a second thought.
It's not about having enough to deal with about being spiderman. It's about carrying the weight to save everyone and he learns this lesson because he didn't save uncle Ben so he saves everyone that needs to be saved
That's the thing about being Spiderman you can't save everyone just focus on one person
"If you don't get that, then you don't get the first thing about being Spider-Man." I love this
Me and all my friends and family theorists referenced this scene connecting it to the next spider man movie beyond the spider verse
Trying to save everysingle person is one of the most Spiderman thing ever
This is the only complaint I have with ATSV tbh; it is way too OOC for them to just sit there and do nothing (and even going so far as to prevent people from doing something). Most (if not all) of them would never just sit there and knowingly let an innocent man die, even if it's at the threat of destroying a whole universe. They would never compromise, not even in the face of armageddon. The real Spider-Man would side with Miles in a heartbeat.
Yup, they make other spiderman look stupid to raise their miles
to be fair the only reason they do nothing is because Miguel himself tried doing something and ended up deleting an entire dimension
@@whyamihere5835 it doesn't matter. Even if they are burdened with this fact the real Spider-Man would still choose to help because that's what he does. They never stop trying to do good out there no matter what, the moment they do stop is the moment they should just take off the suit and drop the name 'Spider-Man'.

What's your point?
I think the “Nosy Parker” thing kinda showed up in the movie. You notice that Miguel hadn’t really invited that many Peters. Even though, in theory, they would outnumber every other version of spidey in the multiverse. Miguel knows Peter(s) are more likely to call his bluff
He didn't call many Peters because they usually follow the canon no problem.
There are thousands of Spider-Man in the movie lil bro how do you know that %70 of them ain't Peter? Gwen had to say hi to at least 5 Peters when the gang arrived to the spider society base.

I love how 2099 is voiced by the same guy who did the 90s Fox Spider-Man
i actually like how its the standard in almost all media that miguel starts off as a cynical spiderman amd gradually grows into being a hero
" Bro wait it's not a cannon event "
LITERALLY MY POINT LMAO
I was like “wow this is the least Spider-Man Spider-Society ever.”
The reason the spider society didn't help miles is because they experienced miguels universe being destroyed, you can see them trying to save the people in the background, but they couldn't, that's why they don't want to risk Miles universe being erased too, because once it starts they can't do anthing about it
Can't believe I got the movie plot spoiled to me years ago 😂😂
Earth 2099 Spider-Man was one of my favorite Spider-Man's even before his debut in across the spider verse.

Her: "you think im in danger? No spiderman i am the DANGER!"

Miguel is a scientist, he's always thinking about the greater good
Every spider-man tried to save everyone at some point, but they couldn’t.
And now we know why he’s not part of the spider society
Both of these guys are the goats, Spider-Man, the animated series, talking to the spectacular Spider-Man
This is one of my most inspiring lines from spider-man
Miles should’ve said that line specifically in the movie. That would’ve caused all of them to stop and think about they really wear the mask.
Tbf, ATSV miguel literally watched his daughter die and learned that if he alters a reality in a way that completely changes its course, it ends badly.
Edge of time is an exception since, timelines are breaking.

to me that’s like the biggest part of peters character he will save every single person possible. if told it’s impossible he’ll find another way
“Slim chance to beat the odds, but i always find a way”
Exactly! Spider-Man, and spider verse can be summed in in Pav’s scene when he tries to save the bridge “I can do both!” That’s what Spider-Man does, hopeless lost
Cause or not, he doesn’t lay down and let shit happen, Miguel lost his way, sure some things might need to happen eventually, but he should never just sit back and let them
Oh snap spiderman 2099 voice is the 90s spiderman cartoon voice
This just proves miles point that your not spider man if don’t try to save people even if its not possible
"MY FUTURE IS MEANINGLESS WITHOUT HER!"
What makes Spiderman such a good hero is that he would rather die saving a random citizen then allow them to die themselves
I also think that Miguel hasn’t learned to cope with his grief and is projecting his need for security and order onto the other spider people.
Miguel has always had problems with guilt and feeling like he's responsible fir preventing bad things from happening.
Thanks for this video right here glad you brought it up
I think both Miles and Miguel are correct in their own way
First(according to Miles): if I have a chance to save someone who I know about to die I will try hard to save him it's the first thing about being a spiderman
Secondly(according to Miguel): if I try to change the past it may bring some bad consequences [like Griffin in Nen in black said "when ever there is death, death always happen"/ or ancient one explain Bruce baner consequences of changing past/ MCU Tom's Peter try to change his fate as a result death of his Aunt May]
What I try to say that both have their own consequences which can lead to a disaster later
Yeah both are in the right. Miles wants to do everything but Miguel doesn’t want to lose a universe because Miles tried and failed. Hard to see which side is actually the villain of the whole story.

Where was this spiderman when miles needed him
I’m happy this game is finally getting the credit it deserves, this was one of my favorite spider man games as a kid
Trying to do both is what spider man is. In this aspect Miles is more of a spider man than Miguel is. Success isn't what makes spider man, it's trying even when it's hopeless, getting up even when you can't.
spiderman is also sacrifice, whenever spiderman wins peter (or whoever else is that spider person) loses
miguel is way more of a spiderman than miles in that aspect. miles is a good person but him trying to succeed even when faced with multiple world being destroyed is selfish

Cant believe how good old spiderman games are they are way beyond their time
This always bugged me about how Peter handled things in Across the Spider-Verse! I was expecting Peter to confront Miguel like this or something, have him be the adult in the room, setting a good example for Mayday, inspiring the other Spiders, etc.
He has a lot to lose now, he can't just put everything on risk (also we see he will help Miles at the end of the movie)
It also proves Miguel O’Hara doesn’t give two sh!ts in multiple universes 💀
Yup, same can be said to countless lives that are being risk if you save that single person, you says "spiderman don't trade lives" here you are risking your own lives every single day for the sake of others, if your lover/families knew saving their lives is at the cost of countless death, do you think they would like that ?
That was my only issue with ATS. Peter wouldn’t just knowingly let someone die. If there was a chance to save them, he would try.
The reason Spider-Man 2099 is good for the whole canon event thing is because he didn't have an Uncle Ben that taught him to save everyone
“It’s what? My job to save her? I’ve got enough to deal with” the way he says that tho 😂
Miguel: Its a canon event-
Parker: SHUSH
Tobey, Tom and Andrew would never agree with 2099. I feel like spectacular wouldn’t either.
Eh but spectacular was with Miguel sad
There was a scene where spectacular tried to get Miles in the chase scene so…
Spectacular agreed too
Spectacular definitely wouldn't, but they needed a notable cameo and he was it.
Well Josh Keaton himself thought it made sense that Spectacular Spidey would follow and look up to Miguel. He gave him hope that everything he suffered through mattered.

Right i was so hoping that 2099 and noir would say something like hey man how ya been or something or noir going not this shit again

Sounded more like an internal battle he’s had before. Weighing the pros and cons of certain scenarios.
So MIguel is actually more of a Spider-man than them.
miguel’s workaholic personality is interesting to see in different forms of media
