    Yes it's overpriced and over hyped, but some of you criticism was ridiculous.
    Don't buy a fixed lens camera then complain you cant change the lens.
    No one is buying this camera to shoot a wedding. Don't know why you assumed this.
    You dont like the UI because you're used to Canon UI
    "I dont think we can get a good photo cos it's not a Canon" also "I'm not brand loyal"
    You are directly comparing it with some huge DLSR with foot long lens (was that set up cheaper than 100VI?)
    "Bokeh's great" referring to a photo with barely any discernible bokeh

    • @omidacademy
      @omidacademy  10 місяців тому

      Some, sure, I see your point. "No one is buying it to shoot a wedding.." Don't know about that. Are you part of any Facebook user groups where people ask for second shooters, along with their gear? Because if you're part of a few, you'll see people shoot with A6300s, 5D2 GH4s.. and well, neither of us would probably use those in 2024 either.
      The Canon comment was in jest, you know that. The menu is inferior to Sony's, not even Canon.
      What would you like me to compare it to? Iphone? In my next video, I compare the 6K to the Blackmagic's 6K. Bokeh aside, can it compete with anything in terms of dynamic range, color, or quality? If not, at what point are people turning into cult apologists?

    First of all, I am not a Fuji photographer. Honestly, I don't understand the purpose of this video. All that is done here is explaining that you don't like this product. The content doesn't help people in making a purchasing decision or understanding this camera. Please don't get me wrong; everyone has their own preferences. It's entirely okay that you don't like the X100 and prefer other camera brands. No one should take that opinion away from you. However, it is neither helpful nor analytically correct to compare this camera with interchangeable lens cameras or not even compare it to another Fujifilm camera. As an alternative, you only suggest Sonys and Canons, which sounds very biased to me. If your goal was just to get attention and clicks, you've achieved it. It's just a pity that you haven't really engaged with the device or the Fuji concept.Calling the camera "overhyped" is just a niche opinion. I agree that it is expensive, but people are willing to pay the price. The pre-order numbers speak for themselves, and I don't believe your statement can represent the majority of these people. And dont get me wrong. And please don't get me wrong. I don't want to take sides with any manufacturer here. But such a camera contributes to a vibrant market. Products like these generate interest among all other manufacturers as well. And if Sony introduces a camera like the Leica Q or Fuji X100 in two years, Fuji will also respond. And that's a good thing.

      It's overhyped. I didn't like it. I explained why I didn't. I explained what I did like about it. If all you're interested in is watching videos to achieve a confirmation bias on your purchase, or to support your buy so you don't have buyer's remorse, this is not for you (using you as an example, I got that you also are not buying the camera). And if 1,000,000 people buy it, it doesn't mean the product was a success or the market deemed it "not" overhyped. Case in point- check out the return rate of the Apple Vision Pros.

    The X100 is my favorite line of cameras. They're discreet, quiet, and convenient for street photography. I've sold a few of them a few times and keep finding myself coming back. I think it's a camera that's worth more than the sum of its parts. Something about the design and feel makes it fun to use as a hobbyist. I have mixed feelings about all the hype, though. I guess it's good for the industry, but the prices have gotten ridiculous. I've also noticed that a lot of the X100 communities have gotten a lot worse since the X100V went viral. On the plus side, I've met people who got an X100V as their first 'real' camera and absolutely love it. To understand the love for the camera I think you have to look at it from the perspectives of the different types of photographers. It's a mix of lifestyle shooters, street photographers, pros looking for a 'day off' camera, photographers who feel overwhelmed by gear, etc... and of course hype bandwagoners. The X100V/VI seems to strike a sweet spot for a diverse range of consumers.

    • @omidacademy
      @omidacademy  10 місяців тому

      I definitely see your point. It's like those people who buy Miatas, and then are part of the community, and meet up on the weekends. Then they see each other on the road and they do a hang loose sign. But then it goes viral on Tik Tok, and suddenly Miatas went from $30K to $65K. Like for what? It's cute.... but it's not worth anywhere near $65k. If you genuinely find joy in using the camera, then more power to you, and I'm happy you can find joy in that camera. My "joy" camera is currently the Blackmagic 6K, and that has a ton of its own faults.

      This is a fantastic comment. The point of the x100 line of cameras is for people that are between total amateur photographers that just use their smartphone and professional photographers.
      It does grant user more pro level features but it also has the film simulations for those who don’t know how to process a raw file.
      Comparing the fujifilm x100vi to an interchange Sony or Canon is nonsensical. No disrespect intended.

    I have been looking for a simple camera with a one lens to take photographs of my son and wife on our trip. A camera which shoots better than a phone. The smallest Sony a7c with a 40mm f2.5 weights more than x100v. It’s not always that fast autofocus or sharpness but the character and feel of using it. Does Sony has any f2 primes ???

      Sony does- even an older A6500 or so would fit your needs, and if you're open to used cameras, then Sony will probably have the largest supply since they have so many iterations (I owned the A6500 for a while and it was great, minus the overheating in video mode).

    it most definitely is over hyped, but for good measure as its an easy to use camera for the masses and for pros as well as a EDC camera. but I see it as a fixed lens XT-5 and that camera I have already so it is not a priority for me to buy if I buy it at all. Dear professional, have you ever used a Hasselblad? Or a technical camera? They have terrible autofocus so they must be for amateurs... The x100 series is about bringing back the fun in creating photos. The awareness of what you are doing. The art of working with bad or no autofocus. I can operate any camera and create content because I know what I am doing. When I am bringing my Sony a1 to my eye I hit 20+ frames per second all focused on the iris... But is it fun? Naaahh. Is it better. No not always. For street, zone focussing is much better because I determine what should be in focus. Not the computer. It is very important that value a product for what it is made for. You can't bith a Porsche 911 for not being to transport your furniture. Comparing an r5 or the Sony AF system against an x100 is exactly like that. These are different products build for different purposes 😉👍🏼✨

    This is not a camera for you to earn money with. It's a high-end compact fun camera. At least for me it is. It ticks all the boxes for such a camera -- compact, decent photo quality, fun to use as it lets you do more than a point-and shoot with access to settings and controls of a "real" camera, and most importantly, it looks cool. I just couldn't find any other cameras in the market that could balance all these so well that I would and have forked out $2,400 (yes I got it at the jacked up price here at my local store becoz i wanted it now and i meant right tf now. Im not in the US btw), I knew I could get almost 2 used rx1r2 or if I threw in a couple more hundreds I could get a used Leica Q2 at this price point, yes I know it so well, and that speaks how much it appeals to me. X-T100V and VI are over hyped due to its price tag. My X-T3 in excellent condition cost me 700 and the 27mm pancake lens cost me 350 excellent condition.

Sure you can say skill issues but for beginners not wanting to learn too much about cameras, they want something better than their phone but still has the conveniences. • @-grey
    @-grey 10 місяців тому

    I've been using Fujifilm for the past 8 years, and this is just hype. 💯
    However, why the hype is happening is important. People want high quality compact cameras again, even if they're flawed.
    Technically, this camera isn't really a big step up from the last one. IBIS is a nice to have, it's never been great for video, but hand held it's fine.
    I'd rather they improved the AF and finally caught up to at least the middle of the pack than have 40mp tbh. 40mp makes more sense to me on the Q because you can take advantage of the versatility of the crop a bit more with the wider focal length. AF has really been a pain point for me since 2020 with Fujifilm.
    Not sure why no flip up selfie screen like the X70. They're riding the tik tok hype and you still can't take group selfie photos and see yourself at the same time. It would be nice to have an EDC that let me be in the family moments.
    It's just nothing new or innovative, but once again Fujifilm put emergent tech into something that didn't really need it and isn't optimised for it either, while forgetting all the primary UX and demographic usecases. It really does feel like the half-assed consideration Leica does, but cheaper.
    However, this is not a camera you buy because you are a considerate consumer with distinction. This is an accessory you panic buy because it's cool, and almost nobody is making compacts anymore. Even if it is basically the same size as the Sony a7CII with the Zeiss 35f2.8 on.
    😂

    @AlexSmyntyna 10 місяців тому

    I guess there are a lot of negative comments on this video, but since this is a relatively small channel with very few views I don't want you to take them to heart about yourself. But there are many criticisms that are valid.
    The audience for this camera is people who want a simple fun experience just shooting and getting a taste of the vintage camera style. Even if you have a professional camera, with multiple lenses, or even a one compact lens that setup is unwieldy and perhaps more importantly more out of place when it comes to going out with friends, on a dinner table, or at the fair. Its that experience that you loose with the larger cameras. And getting more people into the camera market is only better for everyone. As it gives incentives for manufactures to produce invocations that may help your photography journey in 10 years.
    For the price and lack of availability you can get a much better camera with extra lenses (a used d810 and 3 primes) but its just a different tool for a different kind of Light chaser.

    Yes, I have to agree that the Fujifilm X100VI is over-hyped to a certain extent. I bought my X100S in 2014. It's my only X100. I love its aesthetics, as I first learned photography using film cameras back in the 70's. The X100 series of cameras technical specifications has tended to lag behind the other manufacturers and even behind other Fujifilm models. It's a FIXED lens camera. For most shooters, that in itself is a dealbreaker. The X100's have great and fun film-sims, a plus for retro/nostalgia shooters. The X100's have metal engraved control dials, also a plus IF YOU USE THE DIALS. Many shooters are just better served by staying on automatic mode 100% of the time. I do. When I started in film, we would have KILLED for automatic aperture/shutter/exposure (or auto-focus, for that matter). Today, for some reason, shooters want to revert to old-fashioned manual. My X100 and subsequent models S-V were all manufactured in Japan. The X100VI is build in China. Disappointing, I know.
    Look, nearly every X100VI reviewer shows us the same stuff over and over. But hardly anyone shows their images, because they're not even photographers. Or they're not very good photographers; and I'm being generous. I may not be a great photographer myself, but I know great images, when I see them. The X100VI will not make you a better photographer-YOU will make YOU a better photographer. I would venture that for better than half the buyers of the X100, that this is NOT the camera for them. Seriously. The X100's are really only appreciated by a few shooters. I was underwhelmed by my X100S even back in 2014. But when you know your camera's limitations, you will know if it's the appropriate camera for any given occasion; and the you will select the right "tool" for the job. Yes, I am I waitlisted for the X100VI; and I fully intend to buy one for my "toolbox" just because I like the X100 series of cameras. But I understand what it is-and what it is not.

      Thanks for your input, but it seems like you have real reasons to use/buy this camera- the nostalgia? Using this to teach is brilliant itself, but when I teach younger kids, we use the new Blackmagic app now, which allows them to change the shutter, aperture, and ISO. I'd be open to trying it out with them to see if the hands on approach would help their learning rate.

    • @KentFong
      @KentFong 10 місяців тому +1

      @@omidacademy You're welcome. I don't know if my desire to own a work of art is a real reason or not. The X100 is just a camera I happen to fancy, and would like to upgrade from the S model, which is REALLY slow compared to my Nikon DSLR or even my old point and shoot Sony RX100III, which is really what most shooters should buy instead of the Fujifilm X100. On one hand, I love the X100 looks and how it feels in my hand. On the other, I dread its slowness, battery life and lack of GPS. Again, I cannot emphasize enough to the novice how much this camera is simply not for them; and the hype surrounding it is really meant for a specific kind of artist.
      However, you are correct-a photography student could not easily learn the basic principles of shutter speed, aperture, exposure, nor depth of field on a Canon DSLR, mirrorless Fuji or a point and shoot Sony. That said, I'm not even sure today's students NEED to learn those, much like a new driver need not learn the stick shift; and yes, I can drive a manual transmission car too. For example, I never learned to develop film and enlarge prints, since we had/have labs for that. Being skilled in darkroom developing seemed unnecessary (and expensive). Composition, timing, lighting, color/white balance, post photo-editing, and patience are skills aspiring photographers really need today. The rest of the populace will do just fine with a good iPhone in my opinion. The advent of digital and then smart phones put a camera in every single person's hand. Finally, we delivered a high tech tool once reserved for the few; now, for the masses. And what to do with such an awesome gift? Just because something is popular and 'hyped' doesn't mean it's over-hyped. What is exaggerated about the X100VI?
    Sold out for six years? The V came out in early 2020 and became scarce in 2021 due to parts shortages overseas. This is 2024.
    I couldn't make it halfway through.

    • @omidacademy
      @omidacademy  10 місяців тому

      Appreciate you making it halfway. I guess you wouldn't think it's overhyped if you haven't watched other videos on it (that's the algo likely pushing more). Part shortages were for all tech, not just the X100V, right? So how come others didn't go through the same years long shortage? It was marketed, intentionally or unintentionally, through Tik Tok as THE camera for trips or fun use. I am not sure who gets paid on UA-cam to review which cameras, but if the average reviewer isn't talking about UI, slow menu systems, quality of photos- then it's overhyped, in my opinion.

  • @shadle2361
    @shadle2361 10 місяців тому +1

    I think it's fair to say that it's overhyped. The current hype around this camera feels a tad inflated. Considering its steep price tag and extended pre-order period, it's reasonable to question whether it's being overhyped. The abundance of lightly used 100v (below 3k shutter count) popping up on the secondary market suggests that for some, owning the camera may be more about making a statement than about actual photography.

    • @omidacademy

    I just got one last week (and I have a Leica Q2 Monochrom) and would return it except the 15% restock fee of $240 means I will have thrown that down the toilet. My iPhone 14 Max Pro does way better. I have always been a one lens prime shooter - 28mm or 35mm. The fixed lens is how I roll so that is not an issue. So I guess I would be nuts to return it. You nailed it in this video. The AF is aweful and the manual focusing ring is unusable. You need to spin it 360 degrees several times to get on focus. Plus put the side switch on manual or else the film simulations function takes control of the viewfinder. On my X Pro 3 you simply moved a aperture or focus and it went into manual mode. I need advice on whether to take it in the pants for the $240. return fee. My criticisms are 1.) poor autofocus, 2.) complex menu system, I still can't figure out how to assign stuff to the buttons and i was a happy X-Pro 3 guy, 3.) lens is not sharp. Granted I am spoiled by the Leica Q2 Monochrom Summilux f1.7 lens which costs 4X-5X more so it damn well should be better!) But it is so small it reminds me of my old Sony and Canon pocket cameras. ANd that is the category this camera is in. I knew going in that this is a consumer toy camera with some impressive technology but I find myself picking up my Leica even though the novelty of the Fuji should have me in a honeymoon period.I think the one area where I differ is your comparison to professional cameras which is apples-to-oranges. But your vid is uncanny in predicting that there will be lots of returns... starting with me if I decide to eat the return costs. Thanks for the video. Seeing someone react to it for the first time never having used it is refreshing.

    • @omidacademy

      Finally, a real world user. You know what- put it on Facebook market for the price you paid, and see if anyone bites. If they don't in 13 days, then return with the restocking fee. Based on the comments and triggered people here, there should be a 100 people who will jump to take it off your hands.
      Thanks for your input either way, and disagreeing is obviously just fine- discourse is great. My next goal is to get my hands on the Q3 to review and compare it to this. Any reason you got this if you already have a Q2 (I understand it's monochrome but still)?

    • @burneshollyman2621
      @burneshollyman2621 10 місяців тому

      Thanks for the ideas on getting rid of it. Facebook is too sketch for me and I eat $250 if I take it back on restock.
      Re, why the Fuji 100 VI if I have a Q2 Monochrom. Firstly, no matter what cameras I have I only shoot 28mm. I am a very small niche user. I will put up with a 35mm if I have to. I am not a wedding, sports, or birder photographer. I only shoot monochrome. And there is no comparison between the normal Q2 and the Q2 Mono. The Q2 Monochrom DNG/RAW files are only in B&W and are, minimally, 30% sharper. The capture sensor is a different one than the regular Q2. A totally different sensor engineered for monochrome only. The camera goes to 100,000 ISO and no better camera in the dark with its 1.7 killer Summilus lens which sells for $7,000 as a standalone 28mm/f/1.7 full frame. The Mono is a creature in its own category...superior to everything with regard to B&W to be compared to the Q2. There are tons of vids on UA-cam explaining this. I would refer you to the best channel on the topic, and one of the best photography channels on UA-cam: ua-cam.com/video/Ic85Wv-1D4o/v-deo.htmlsi=R06xfO3CRVHMV9Ch Paul Reed. The camera is legend if you are a monochrome fixed-lens person. That is a very small market which is why it is so expensive, the Leica brand premium notwithstanding. I had a Fuji X-Pro 3 I liked a lot and sold it for the regular Q2. Then I got the Monochrom and ordered the Fuji 100 VI thinking it could play the color role that the X-Pro 3 did part of the non-mono time shooting (remember I only need 28/35) alongside my Leica Monochrom. I thought the 100 VI would be a mini-me rangefinder version of the X-Pro 3 since there are no plans for an X-Pro 4 anytime soon. The Fuji rangefinder system is simply brilliant with all its options. Too bad the 100 VI's isn't bigger like the X-Pro 3 but that is not the design idea behind the 100 VI. It is a consumer camera so it can't be faulted there for that.
      On doing a video comparing the Leica Q2/Q3 to the Fuji 100 VI, I would save your battery charge. There were tons of stupid "first impression" videos (a/k/a know nothing vids about the camera other than what is already on the UA-cam echo chamber) done comparing the Q2 to the 100V. It is so apples-and-oranges a comparison that you should probably do another video comparing a Ferrari to a Corvette. Starting with the fact that the Q2/Q3's are not rangefinders like the 100 IV, have superior glass, minimalist fabulous menus and hand-built build quality (literally) and a stunning body design targeted at completely different markets and consumers. And yes, it is $6K vs. $1,600. There have been so many videos on this, it would be a complete waste of time, and they are all clickbait vids, just that and you would piss a lot of people off (but mostly people who have never had either camera in their hands much less live with them).
      Another thing I don't believe in are hit-and-run vid reviews of cameras the content maker has not lived with for at least 2-3 months at a minimum. As with relationships, you can't really know a camera unless you do. Be clear on one point: BOTH the Leica Q2/Q3 AND the Fuji 100 VI are consumer cameras. The Leica Q2/Q3 is a $6,000 consumer camera targeted at rich retired lawyers and doctors and Leica fanatics who come from the manual focus world. It is truly a Dad Camera. The Fuji is targeted at hipsters and "content creators and creatives" and general consumers who want to take pictures of the family, trips, etc. So doing a comparison to features on pro cameras is intellectually flabby analytical thinking which is so wrong it isn't even wrong. Wedding photographer hit-and-run reviews that gripe about "no dual card" slots in either the Leica Q series or the Fuji X100 VI should stick to reviewing all the Sony, Nikon, Canon look-alikes. Or stick to just doing wedding videos. So unless you are looking to build your channel with clickbait titles, I wouldn't waste your time comparing them. The only reason I clicked on yours was to see if there are any less-than-glowing reviews out there. So if you continue to go down this route I suggest a.) buying and using a Fuji VI and live with it for 2-3 months before doing a review, and b.) then review it as the simple consumer camera it is, a fun, albeit technically advanced (for now) sorta-but-not point and shoot. More apt comparisons would be to Sony's and Lumix's consumer cameras in the same price range. That is a review that would be worth doing. @@omidacademy

      Lots of new and useful info in your response, greatly appreciate the length.
      You also have to at least understand my perspective, that reviewing a camera, properly with your metrics, is unrealistic, at least for UA-cam. Aside from Phillip Bloom, I don’t think there’s anyone else out there doing it successfully because the ration of effort is just not worth it in the land of the trending algorithm.
      I also trust myself, I can’t think of a camera that I didn’t like that grew on me. I’ve tested cameras that were good and got better. The “fun,” for me, comes to comparing what people claim are impossible to compare, the apples to oranges statement. You can compare apples to oranges. I compared a Temu camera to a Blackmagic, Panasonic to IPhone, so that someone is aware spending $3000 more gives you 10% improved results, or 50% more fun. In April my goals is to get my hands on the 100ii and the Q3, and I’m absolutely going to compare those to the R5 and perhaps the R5ii if it’s released by then.

I wondered why I couldn't get the look I wanted, why when shooting in low light and dark places with high ISO, trying to pull up shadows, my image would turn to custard. I could go on and on. I recently swapped over to two Nikon Z, FF cameras with 6 of their new Z lenses. Man what a difference. My customers are raving about my images. In my latest shoot for the Dragon Boat races here in Perth, they loved my stuff so much the images are going up on the huge advertising banners here at Perth International Airport. I'll stop there, but the best thing I ever did was leave Fuji behind. I had two of their X-100 cameras and they are all about hype but no substance. This camera makes no sense. The X100V is still a better pick. The IBIS is nonesense, and the 40MP sensor is ruined by the lens which can't really resolve all those 40MP's and my guess is the lowlight of the X100V is a little better as well.
