    Dear Peter,
    The first lens will be the overall handy lens 12-100 mm F 4 IS PRO Zoom with built in stabiliser for still and video shooting, which is an all purpose lens covering 24-200 mm in full frame terminology.
    The second lens will be a specialised wide angle lens 7-14 mm F 2.8 PRO for landscapes, architecture, sky, interiors and group photos.
    The third lens I will go for will be the best portrait lens 45 mm F 1.2 PRO for top blurring and low light.
    The last lens will be the 300 mm F4 IS with MC 14 extender but that will be very expensive and will be purchased at a later phase, only when required.

    A thought about modern kit lenses. Why are they so slow? My first slr camera, like most slr cameras in those days, came with a really sharp 50mm f1.8. That was normal, in fact it was called a “normal” lens.

  • @wardropstree
    @wardropstree 5 років тому +4

    It depends what you mean by kit lens. And you say that the kit lens is slow. I bought the Pen-F with the 17mm f/1.8. That was the kit. The 17mm is an excellent lens, and not particularly slow. The phrase ‘kit lens’ is somewhat derogatory, but it depends which ‘kit’ you buy.

    After owning about 12 olympus and pansonic lens range from f1.2 to f5.6, I think olympus 9-18mm is a very useful for travelling and daily use as a compact and a great performer. It's color is saturated and image is crisp, and let you use filters, specially a cheap small GND. With it you can live without a kit lens. It's not the best, but certainly a high CP ratio one. By the way , the 43 series panasonic 25mm f1.4 leica and 14-50 f2.8-4 leica are special for it's images differs from lenses nowadays, really a bit classic leica like taste, which I kept them until now and never sell them out. At last , the best one among my gear is the panny leica 42.5mm f1.2, it often replaces my full frame 85mm f1.4.

    Your quite right about the 12/100 f4 it is really very, very good product. I did have the 12mm and the 75mm but as soon as I acquired the 12/100 f4, they were sold off. I did keep the 17mm and the 25mm for when I want to knock about with a small fixed focal length lens. But the 12/100 f4 really does it all extremely well.
    Cheers.

    This whole question sounds like a solution in search of a problem. Use whatever camera and lens gear you have until you find yourself running into its limitations. Then, if you do need it want something specific, try to buy it used. Is your slow telephoto lens letting you down in low light because of the high shutter speeds needed for capturing action? Go find an f2.8 lens for your system. Want to take portraits with shallow depth of field, and your kit lens won't blur out the background enough? Get a fast portrait prime lens. Interested in video but your camera produces poor quality video (if it produces video at all)? Get a camera body that takes better video, ideally one that won't require you to buy all new lenses.
    There is soooo much information and so many reviews on the Internet about almost every camera and lens that we are spoiled.
    So Peter is spot on.

    Not an M.Zuiko Lens, but the Samyang(Rokinon) 12mm/f2.0 is an amazing lens for very little money!
    Also, the 25mm Panasonic is half the price for pretty much the same result, if your budget is small!

    Hello Peter, first of all, thanks for your work, your videos are very useful. For wildlife photography I usually use a Sony Alpha 77 II with Tamron 150-600, a couple months ago I bought a Olympus OMD E-M1 used on eBay to try Micro 4/3 system in order to reduce the weight and always have a camera with me. So far, I purchased two lenses, 25mm and 45mm, both 1.8, and I'm glad of them. Now, I'm looking for a micro 4/3 lens that gives me the same quality as Tamron, which lens do you think I should buy? Obviously, with Sony, I use a tripod, with Olympus I'd like to leave it at home too. Thanks in advance, greetings from Italy, Simone.

    Not to forget the large and growing range of Panasonic, Sigma and various other brands of native M4/3 lenses that work perfectly with Olympus and Panasonic bodies. On my E-M10 MkII today I have a Sigma 19mm f2.8 Art lens fitted. I also carry the 45mm f1.8 Olympus and always the 9mm f8.0 bodycap fisheye which is great fun in small doses. Of course the kit lens 14-42mm.
    For specific subjects the 7-14 rectilinear wide angle Olympus Pro lens is really high quality but its price reflects this. 60mm macro would be a nice addition to my kit some day.

    Here's what I currently own:
    12-40mm f2.8 PRO
    40-150mm f2.8 PRO
    MC-14 and MC-20 teleconverters
    45mm f1.8
    Panasonic Leica 25mm f1.4
    Camera bodies:
    OM-D E-M1 (original)
    Panasonic DMC-G85
    Accessories:
    Battery grips for both cameras
    Takstar SGC-598 shotgun microphone
    Olympus ME-51S Stereo Microphone
    Zoom H1N recorder
    Various SD cards
    Manfrotto BeFree Live video tripod
    Magnus VT-300 video tripod
    Various filters
    I have my eye on the 300mm f4 PRO because I do a lot of wildlife shooting, especially birds. But the 40-150mm with the MC-20 teleconverter gives me 300mm at f5.6, so that's good enough for now. That 300mm lens is mighty expensive.
    I've also had my eye on upgrading my E-M1 to at least an E-M1 Mark II, but I think the lens might be the more important purchase to save up for. I mostly do stills, but I'm starting to shoot a bit more video, and I know the E-M1 is not good for that. The G85 is good for that, but the continuous autofocus lets me down, especially since I don't have much Panasonic glass for DFD. Unfortunately, the E-M1 II doesn't even measure up to the G85 when it comes to video, much less the GH5. One nice thing about the G85 is that it takes UHS-II cards, so even though it doesn't shoot quite as quickly as the E-M1 in C-AF mode, it dumps the buffer much more quickly. Neither the G85 nor the E-M1 II has 120 fps, which is quite unfortunate. The E-M5 III does, but Olympus took away the headphone jack from the accessory grip.

    Hei! Olisiko sulla ehdottaa edullista objektiivia Olympus omd e-m5II kameraan? Tällä hetkellä kamerassa 25mm 1:1.8 objektiivi, joka ei aivan riitä. Pitäisi kuvata liikkuvia hevosia ja zoomille olisi tarvetta.

    • @ForsgardPeter
      @ForsgardPeter  5 років тому

      Jos kuvaat sisällä niin valovoimaa tarvitaan. Valitettavasti valovoima maksaa. 40-150mm f2.8 olisi varmaan sopiva, mutta edullisuus on vähän niin ja näin. Yksi vaihtoehto voisi olla 45mm F1.8, ei toki zoom. Toinen ei-zoom 75mm F1.8.

    Great Video peter, I love that you go into used lenses and bodies, I started with my kit lens and started adapting older canon lenses. That was the appeal at first, then I added a Panasonic 20mm F1.7, then the Oly 45mm f1.8 and the the 12mm F2.0 all great additions. I picked them up buying used camera bodies. Oly em5 Mk 1 and the Em5 Mk ii. It was worth but them with the lenses. I saved a ton of cash that way and basically got the bodies for free. When I got the MK1 I got the 12-50MM dust proof and splash proof with that body, amazing all purpose lens.
    But all in all my favorite lens is a 4/3 lens 14-54 F2.8 lens that I use with a adapter. That lens is my favorite lens of all time. Its big, heavy but stunning. Anyway, thanks again for the video.

    I started shooting with SLR 43 years ago and has a line of analog cameras from 4X5 ", MF, and different brands in the 35mm format, and of course even more optics. Especially Nikon I used until I switched to MFT.
    Two weeks ago I received an offer for a brand new Olympus Pen-F body for under $ 1000, which is a good price in Norway. What lenses do I want for it?
    I would need a fast prime, and I had one. The Pana/Leica 15/1.7. The Pen-F is ofering with Olympus 17/1.8 in a kit. That's perfect match for it.
    I would love to have something wide, light, cheap, good and maybe a zoom. Then I have the Panasonic 12-32/3.5-5.6 and that lens with the exellent 35-100/3.5-5.6 telezoom and then it's perfect travel equipment.
    I could also drop the telezoom and take with me a fast prime, as an Olympus 45/1.8 or 75/1.8. I also have the excellent Pana/Leica 45/2.8 macro.
    For extreme wideangel shooting, I would by a Laowa 7.5mm f/2.
    Then I would have the perfect travel combo for nearly every situations.

    • @ForsgardPeter
      @ForsgardPeter  6 років тому

      It looks like you a very good combo as you said yourself! Pen-F and 17mm f1.8 is very good for street photography. The 45mm f1.8 ads nicely to the kit if you like to doo street portraits. For wide angle zoom consider the M.Zuiko 9-18mm. Its small and light weight.

    First try to get more creativity and skilss out of the lens(es) that you already have. You don't have to buy a new lens every month,do you? Yes, that's what Olympus wants and any brand...
    But..i very nice video..

      He's an "Olympus Visionary" which basically means he's sponsored by Olympus. With that in mind I think you can understand why he never mentioned any other lens manufacturer...

      16mm is the classic full frame fish eye focal length
