Hey, when I have to make a phone call to someone whose name I don’t know how to pronounce, which I have to do for work sometimes, I’ll look up "how to pronounce...." in my favorite search engine, enter the first name, repeat for the last name, write down the pronunciation in my own way so it makes sense to me, and call the person. Last time I did that, I was congratulated for my pronunciation! So, lovely CydNee, try that method for names and place names that are unfamiliar to you, it will give you confidence! Love this series!
@@romaniesophie5035 In the US the name Arthur isn’t common with young people, it’s more of an old person name. That being said, there is an animated children’s show called Arthur that centers around Arthur the aardvark. The show started in 1996 and is still running.

Lol sorry this ended up being long xD Correction: Tight-lacing corsets was considered an extreme fad and most women did not practice it. Corsets on their own would not be "too tight" and would fit even a boyish figure as a corset would always be made for the specific wearer and carefully measured to their body. Women played sports, climbed mountains, and participated in all sorts of physical activity in corsets and breathed just fine. This is a misconception birthed by time, edited photos like the one you showed (easy to make a waist small on a black background; just paint black inwards as far as you want the waist to go), movies plus the actresses in them. Not that their bad experiences aren't real or are their fault but they stem from film productions not taking the time to make proper fitting corsets which can be very uncomfortable as any piece of ill fitting clothing can be (yes even to the point of injury, just like shoes that are too small). How these actresses are to blame is perpetuating that their experience on a filmset is somehow true representation of daily life for women at the time. The historical fashion community is trying to fight against this now. Sorry it's such a small part of the video but it's something I really care about.
I was about to comment this same thing! Learning more of the truth about old corsets and stays has actually made me really want one lol. A properly made and fitted corset sounds way more comfy and supportive than an ill fitting modern bra to me!
I find it really interesting that people say such horrible things about corsets, then turn around and wear boned bodices in formal dresses, shapewear, and waist trainers (which is straight up modern tight-lacing), all of which are less comfortable than a proper fitting corset/stays. I really wish Hollywood would normalize hiring third party corset designers who know exactly what they’re doing for corsetry in movies/tv the way that opera companies do💖
Yes! Thank you! I was going to go through the whole trouble of typing all this out but thankfully you did. Furthermore, this isn't just a misconception due to time. This stemmed from men who were trying to make women look incompetent and unable to do certain things, namely corset makers (who were mainly female) so the very misconception that corsets are these horrid things that women can't breathe in is anti-feminist to its core.
You’re awesome! I’m a history nerd and have to say I’m always impressed with your research. Plus, who doesn’t love a tardis time machine ride!love this whole, odd niche you have of history and makeup! ❤️

"Bonjour or bonsoir" - Hi Cydnee and everyone! I'm French and I just love your historical videos!!! I learned weeks ago that Coco Chanel was apparently linked to the nazi: it literally disgusted me! We had an exposition about her in Paris but closed now because of what we've been dealing with all around the world. Even after her trial, after WW2, that she wasn't part at all...only God and her know the truth! As per your pronounciation, don't worry ;) just to let you know: in fact her last name "BONHEUR" means "HAPPINESS", weird!! - "DEAUVILLE", you pronounced it well at one time like "DOE-VILLE" without insisting on the end of "OE" - "TRICOT", I didn't look for the real meaning in the styling field but for me, "TRICOT" is wether when you knit or it could be the slim cloth you wear under your actual cloth.. Voilà!! Many thanks again for your full and detail stories. Lots of luck for the elections. Kisses from France, near Paris.
Great vid as always. I appreciate you and please don’t feel beholden to publish on deadlines. Your work is well worth it that I will take it whenever it arrives. I love history and love the Manner that you deliver it. Sorry to hear about this anxiety you are going through.
My husband, saw me watching you a few weeks back and got interested, last week he overheard me watching it without him and got mad lol
I absolutely love this series, I'm so sorry your anxiety has been acting up! I hope you continue to put yourself first. Sending you love and light.
I choked " rags to riches, to racism " THIS GUNNA BE A GOOD ONE :')
I said the exact same thing lmao
Nazism IS NOT THE SAME as racism. Nazism: NAZIonal Socialistische Partei, led by Hitler. Supporters of that party-nazis. Were they racist also? Many of them beleived in (false) superiority of "ariyan" race against all others, but hating blacks was not their primary "occupation",hating jews was.
Please continue to do makeup and history this is something we all needed! It's very educational! Thank you you blue eyed beauty 💕
Sorry about your anxiety Cydnee, we love you!!! Whenever you’re ready to post, we will be here! We just want you to take care of yourself first and foremost ♥️
Truly captivated by this . GREAT content. Thank you.
I was surprised she didn’t know how to pronounce Arthur! I guess that mustn’t be a common name in the US which is so strange to me haha
@@romaniesophie5035 In the US the name Arthur isn’t common with young people, it’s more of an old person name. That being said, there is an animated children’s show called Arthur that centers around Arthur the aardvark. The show started in 1996 and is still running.
@@romaniesophie5035 Let me guess, you’re in the UK? 🤔
@@romaniesophie5035 I just took it as her trying hard not to pronounce Arthur as author, but 🤷🏽♀️. Arthur is not a common name anymore in the US; however, I more so here people try not to mix up the pronunciation with author.
Arthur can be tricky for some. It's a new I've heard countless times, but each time I say it, my mouth just jumbles it up. I have the same issue with Rory, (I even dated a Rory, and I could never say his name without sounding broken)
I'm SOOOOOOOOOO effing happy I found your channel! You're fabulous and I love the content. Oh and your makeup skills... 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥
I wish you would have added her death and how she died, when she died. Either way. Love this video. Thank you.
Yup me too. It isn't too long for us!
She died of Old age at 87
She actually died at Hotel Ritz and lived there 30 years prior
Cydnee has such a sweet soul it literally radiates from her
I’m so happy I caught your upload! You are such a great history teller.
You are soooo awesome to me.....I am a sixty year old women who is sooo impressed with your ability to research and report , while doing flawless makeup. Your voice is beautiful for broadcasting. I love that you as a young lady takes out time to study things that are not typical. And you are soooo funny to me....I love your time machine and the way you think and the way you word things... also like how you say fact check you and to do it respectfully..You have been raised awesomely.....I love love love you!
Lol sorry this ended up being long xD
Correction: Tight-lacing corsets was considered an extreme fad and most women did not practice it.
@@LEAGish Totally agree.
I was looking for this comment!! Well said👏 I honestly want a set of corded stays or a longline Edwardian corset.
Love seeing influencers disclosing their ADHD it really helps fight the stigma we all face. Love the series and your quirky humor 💕

"She looks like she can breathe" (swimsuit Coco introduced) 😂😂😂
Why are Cydnee's eyelids so perfect. Everything I put on my lids disappears when I open my eyes
I think it's worth mentioning that I let out an audible laugh during the part where we buckled up to travel back in time 😂 you're so silly Cyd ❤

This is my new favorite thing on YT. Makeup and history? YES!!! That picture of Wallis Simpson and the Duke of Windsor all smiley with Hitler always gives me the creeps! That’s a story you should deep dive!
loveeedd your video! and as a French person I must say the pronunciation was a little off as you anticipated but... who cares lol :) thank you for trying! you still told the story beautifully and it was so entertaining as always
Yes. It was. Go ahead. She wants people to correct her. She won't mind. I am not French but I grew up in Quebec.
I agree the accent was off but at least you tried lol
So glad you made this video! Not enough people talk about Coco's in this light!!!!
“Rags, to riches...to racism” 😂😂😂
The 3 r's of Coco Chanel
History teachers have A LOT to learn from you. Loved this video
It’s always the “time machine” for me 😂😂😂
"Bonjour or bonsoir" - Hi Cydnee and everyone!
Have to say I wasn’t really aware of Coco’s life and was another stellar investigation. Keep up the good work and I thank you for you and your content.
My favorite parts of your videos are the time machine rides. I buckle up and hold on tight every time 🤣

Makeup and history is one of my favorite series on youtube, with the best theme song!!
I love these stories and I started listening as I fall asleep but your time machine noises startle me every time! Haha
this was really nice to listen to however, corsets although they were a bit restrictive, were comfortable if fitted right and tight lacing was uncommon and generally frowned upon as it is today. thanks for the video!
Thank you for this! When corsets came up all I could think of was how much Bernadette Banner would disapprove of the description given, haha
