Yes. As a value proposition, the Roccbox still reigns supreme. But if you want more room and the experience of a side mounted flame, the Arc is about the cheapest thing out there (Ooni Koda is cheaper, but the burner is L shaped, not completely side mounted).
The roccbox is my favorite outdoor cooking tool. I make 10-11" pizzas, many times we will do up to 12 pizzas. The extra space of the Arc would really be nice for launch and rotate. Thanks for the comparison, you put a load of work into it.
Thanks for the comparison man! I’m still trying to decide between the Roccbox and the Arc XL. Do you plan on doing that comparison, or would that be too similar to this one?

Have only owned a roccbox so far, myself. Thoughts on durability of the Arc base, and whether you like the size have second thoughts towards the xl?
@@matty5489 HI Matty. I did wonder if I'd made a mistake with not getting the XL, but I tried a larger pizza (>12") and that was good in the Arc. I can't see me ever needing to do a 16" so I think the Arc is just right. The extra 'wiggle' room is appreciated for sure. My initial view is that the arc base is good and I felt it got to higher temps than the Roccbox. It certainly cooked my pizzas quicker it seemed. For the extra cash the XL is certainly attractive but the Arc is awkward to move (I have a permanent position for it), so the XL would be difficult. My 2-pence worth.

Greats video my friend. Honest opinión, great graphs to compare multiple aspects that most dont do (heat up time, gas consumption, real cocking Space etc) and you make the comparations that someone like me that want to buy a oven needs. Keep going like this. Of course i suscribe after this video. Regards.
I have the Roccbox in Costa Rica and decided to buy another one (on sale) for my cottage here in Canada. I jumped at the sale price and wondered if I should have purchased the Arc, but now this confirms that I made the right choice. :)
I'm contemplating between Roccobox and Arch 16!? Pizza catering, small business vibe? Could you please provide a detailed comparison between these two small ovens?
My opinión is that the arc is for those who want a portable oven but with some extra space to turn de pizza or make it a little bit bigger without pay 800 dolar. And add the gas control in the front. The digital thermometer is just not as stable because is digital...analog thermometer like the roccbox will be always more stable because dont "feel" every single change of temperature around them.
I think the point he was trying to make is that the XL is clearly much better and only $100 more. That's a couple nights out at your favorite pizza joint, one if you have kids. There are surely some who will prefer it, but it's a niche within a niche.
So glad I found this video! I am running a mobile pizza business with two Roccbox ovens, and was considering the Arc as an upgrade. Your tests line up really well with aspects of my workflow for the business, and this made me realize that, for me, it really wouldn't be an upgrade at all in terms of output capacity because of the heat loss from the huge opening on the Arc. The Roccbox is an amazingly capable oven for it price and size. Right now, we push out 15-20 pizzas an hour. About 5-7 pizzas in one oven consecutively depending on ambient temp, then switch over to the other for another 5-7 while the first one heats back up. My biggest complaint about the Roccbox is the lack of temperature control. Even on the lowest flame, my ovens will push 1000+ degrees if I don't turn them off and let them cool a little. And even with neapolitan dough, the bottoms start burning around 950 with the type of stone that Gozney uses. Other than that though, they are amazing little workhorses!
I had the Roockox oven and honestly didn't like it because of the following reasons: 1. Limited cooking space. 2. Inconvenient to transport. You have to remove the burner, store it separately, and be very careful not to damage or ruin the igniter. 3. The silicone surface is very dirty and stains adhere to it and don't come off with anything. 4. Fresh out of the box it looks great, but with the first baking it's already covered in soot and its front is ruined from being burnt. If you love design and want it to look good at your events, this will disappoint you. You'll have to clean it every time you finish using it. I have an Ooni Koda 16 and I think that because of the cooking space, how easy it is to transport, the stone can be removed and changed, its appearance, and its look, I've always leaned towards the Ooni Koda 16. I'm waiting for the Arc vs Koda 16 comparison. I was excited to buy the Arc but with this comprehensive review I've gradually become disillusioned with the Gozney Arc 🥲 they didn't even include a peel 🫣
More good work, well done and thanks! 1/ About the Arc thermometer weirdness - if you are seeing it on both models, I wonder whether it might be due to imperfect contact between stone and sensor? Though if turning off and then on again gives a different reading, that points to an error in the digital electronics. From a production perspective, I would expect the Arc and XL display modules to be identical and interchangeable… do your two modules read the same? 2/ I would suggest you hesitate to change any test methodology. Running the same tests allows you to compare Roccbox and XL (like the voices call for) without rerunning the tests on the Roccbox. Same thing when the next hype wave lands, you have the half the comparison done! Of course adding other tests is a different matter…! 3/ Love that you have doors on your house and car…! I think Gozney are reluctant to go along with doors for gas-only ovens, though with enough ventilation for combustion and flame visibility (as well as that flameout gas cutoff) any risk is surely minimal. 4/ I know you think both the Arcs’ gas knobs are kinda loose and clunky, BUT if that is the price to pay for having it at the front (and it nevertheless works OK) then it’ll do. Front flame control is definitely a PRO for the Arcs, back control a CON for the Roccbox (and so many others!) Again - well done! Added - 5/ Here in the UK, where Gozney originates, our domestic gas safety regulations want solidly connected appliances, only to be connected by a certificated technician. It may be as simple as Gozney HQ not recognising the market potential of a natural gas option in the USA. I would think the market was big enough for a “localised” option - just as long as they can make it deliver enough heat (it doesn’t burn as hot as propane). Because Gozney isn’t a massive company, we shouldn’t expect them to deliver a complete ecosystem at launch. Maybe they will in future offer a natural gas Arc version, and don’t want to kill today’s sales by pre-announcing tomorrow’s version? (Though they have had plenty enough time for the Roccbox!)
I love the video. So thorough and with aspects tested that are actually useful. I don't have an pizza oven but before the arc came out, I wanted Roccbox especially for portability (so I thought). And eventhough Roccbox apparently wins all the tests, I am more inclined toward Arc. Or XL rather. I don't need twelve pizzas made at a session, two three tops for me. I don't mind waiting. Arc looks great in my opinion.
Which one would you recommend between the Roccbox and Arc XL if someone is really looking to get into pizza making? I understand the XL is $300 more but would it be worth moving up. The inside of the Roccbox just looks so tight to learn to turn pizzas. Thanks, love the videos!!
It's not the turning that tight space will matter on, it's the launch, if you want to do the maximum size pizza Otherwise roccbox has plenty of space, and would be a great way to start out. You might wanna get the roccbox on sale, if you're not in a rush, and decide whether to go all the way to the dome. Or the Arc for portability. But, if you think you'll stop at one single oven, don't need more versatility, or portability, then the XL could make the most sense,
Cool video. Ive been indecisive for so long on my first oven. Was thinking ooni first then i saw roccbox now the arc looks like the way to go. But all the add ons end up costing so much more. Also would any of these 2 be suitable for a condo balcony?
Nice review man, appreciate the content. I think maybe the point of the arcs is to have a product that closes the gap between the roccbox and dome in terms of price, usable cooking space, and design. The XL + stand is a little over 1k, that kinda falls between the roccbox and dome
My theory for the Arc is that it exists not to actually sell, but to push people to the higher price point of the XL. $800 on its own sounds like a ton of money for a casual home cook to spend to make a few pizzas a month, especially when you can get a Roccbox or Ooni for $400-500. But, a 16” pizza oven that is better in every way than a 14” one and is way bigger than the cheap 12” ones on the market, for only $100 more than something that looks the same, sounds like a steal.
And ordering pizza has become quite expensive. We do pizza night every Friday. Will typically spend about $60 each week on pizza. So even if you factor in the cost of supplies to make your own an $800 pizza oven will pay for itself in less than half a year.
interesting review! the results of the back to back pizzas in the arc feels weird considering the thicc stone as you said. the more i listen and learn the more i am unsure what to buy. would love to be able to make 3-4 good pizzas in less then 25miutes after heating up the oven. i hope the arc xl with an extra door can handle it. for 16“ is there any oven you would prefere over the arc xl to this date? maybe excluding the dome its just to big. thanks for the awesome videos back to back!
Hey man thanks for doing this review - very timely as I was tossing up against these two. Just a question - did you do the door test on the Arc for getting back up to temp? I know you did it for the Roccbox and you saw the reheat time halved - just wondering if that's the same for the Arc? I would assume so?
@@somedadscook thanks - I see they just released one a few days ago is this the revised version and have you done any real time tests? i ended up getting an XL
Great video! thanks for that. In Canada, looking at regular pricing without sales, the Roccbox is 600$ and the ArcXL is 1200$. When the Roccbox goes on special, the gap is even greater, especially considering that you need to add the cost of a pizza peel to the ArcXL. I've got the budget for either, but is the ArcXL really worth 2+ times more than the Roccbox? They both seem like really good choices.
Excellent AND HONEST😻review‼️ own a Rockbox, tempted to move up to Src xl solely for the extra room, maneuverability. A fun review would be Arc XL vs Everdure Kiln. Thank you for all you do‼️
Have you talked to Gozney about your back to back test to understand why they may think Arc did not perform as well as Roccbox? PS im looking at buying my first pizza oven and am leaning toward Arc XL only because of the size of pizzas. I could live with 12" pizzas to feed my family of 3
@somedadscook - which one do you think is more versatile for cooking NY and other pizza at a lower temp? Size of the pizza is not something I'm as concerned about vs. the ability to control for a lower temp more easily.
Have you tried using Natural Gas with the Arc? I contacted their support and they said it’s not tested for natural gas and that they cannot recommend using it. Which is a bummer, I too have a natural gas hookup at home. I like the arc way more than the ooni from build to aesthetic. But idk if it’s worth going back to propane.
@@somedadscook I just ordered to Roccbox, didn't want to pull the trigger on the arc/arcxl til I know I'll use it enough to justify the cost. Hoping someone tests it with Natural Gas, then I won't need to use a propane tank.
Really struggling to make my mind up on getting an arc or a roccbox, does anyone feel like they are missing out only having gas on the arc, and not the option for woodfired?
Just the comparison I was looking for. Nice video in spite of the kid in the background. If I had my wish oven, it would be the Roccbox stretched wider with the flame on the side big enough for a 14" pizza. Not fond of the Arc. It looks like the top of R2D2 in star wars.
"Why Gozney released the Arc"? My guess is that it's the replacement for the Roccbox. The RB looks like an Ooni clone and looks nothing like what Gozney is going for with the newer models. The Arc is nearly the same size and weight, it has built in handles and is serviceable, not to mentions looks better.
Great review. After watching it, I think I will hold off on the Arc XL. I have 2 Roccbox’s, an Ooni Karu16, and a Brevillle Pizzaiolo so I don’t really need it.
In my opinion the arc fits in the category of people who want to master the art of cooking a good pizza but don't want a big oven. The Roccbox makes pizzas but it's so tight that you don't really have the same "pizzaiolo" experience of dome or arc. All the magic of puting the pizza inside the oven, making the corniccione, the rotation , etc. is not the same in a little pizza oven like the roccbox. Don't get me wrong, Roccbox is awesome, but making pizza is not always about best statistics and efficiency.
Your Back to Back test doesn't reflect "real world" usage I've had a Roccbox for 5 years and imagine that most people would use it as i do. Allow it to get to temp, cook pizza, turn roccbox down to low flame, eat pizza, open dough for second pizza top it, turn roccbox back up to high flame and launch, eat, repeat. when used like this the thing is amazing. the only true differenvr seen to be space in the oven.
The test is to reflect how much heat is stored in the stone. So when it's compare to a pizza oven with a thinner stone that would shine thru. Many have also asked if there is an oven that can cook 2-3 in a row really quick when they are cooking for more than just themselves.
Nice review man, appreciate the content. I think maybe the point of the arcs is to have a product that closes the gap between the roccbox and dome in terms of price, usable cooking space, and design. The XL + stand is a little over 1k, that kinda falls between the roccbox and dome

Hey man thanks for doing this review - very timely as I was tossing up against these two. Just a question - did you do the door test on the Arc for getting back up to temp? I know you did it for the Roccbox and you saw the reheat time halved - just wondering if that's the same for the Arc? I would assume so?
We will see. I worked with nu2u on a door but it didn't have enough air flow. So we revised and I should get the new one soon.
@@somedadscook thanks - I see they just released one a few days ago is this the revised version and have you done any real time tests? i ended up getting an XL
Yes I have. Working on the video now. It cut the time down pretty drastically. Still testing the recovery time on it though.
@@somedadscook Looking forward to it! Hoping that I can get back-to-back repeatability that's close to the Roccbox
Have you tried the Solo Pi Prime?
No I have not.
+1, I'm stuck between Arc XL and Solo Pi Prime.
Great work at usual boss👏👏
I was also having issues with the flame blowing out On the Gozney on a windy day when I had it on Low
Great review, you need to have your son do a camio in every video 😆 the look on your face priceless.
Ha ha ha. I should. Best part was I had no idea he was in it that much until I started editing.
I feel this is mainly a design thing.. And that is probably why they launched the xl as a more affordable option to the Dome
Excellent AND HONEST😻review‼️ own a Rockbox, tempted to move up to Src xl solely for the extra room, maneuverability.
A fun review would be Arc XL vs Everdure Kiln.
Thank you for all you do‼️
Great idea.
I haven't. I want to really bad
@@somedadscook I just ordered to Roccbox, didn't want to pull the trigger on the arc/arcxl til I know I'll use it enough to justify the cost. Hoping someone tests it with Natural Gas, then I won't need to use a propane tank.
Do you think if you had a door for the Gozney XL Arch will the pizza is cooking will help hold the heat more
Really struggling to make my mind up on getting an arc or a roccbox, does anyone feel like they are missing out only having gas on the arc, and not the option for woodfired?
I have the roccbox wood attachment and don't love it.
Thank you for testing, i have the same experience about time, but what was the temp outside? all the best // Christer from Sweden
Was about 45 F
Just the comparison I was looking for. Nice video in spite of the kid in the background. If I had my wish oven, it would be the Roccbox stretched wider with the flame on the side big enough for a 14" pizza. Not fond of the Arc. It looks like the top of R2D2 in star wars.
Ha ha ha
Hi, which would out of the two, roccbox and arc be best for Detroit pizza?
The arc could cook a bigger Detroit but temp wise they are very similar
"Why Gozney released the Arc"? My guess is that it's the replacement for the Roccbox. The RB looks like an Ooni clone and looks nothing like what Gozney is going for with the newer models. The Arc is nearly the same size and weight, it has built in handles and is serviceable, not to mentions looks better.
Will the nu2u roccbox door will work well whit gozney original mantel or it's a better fit whit nu2u mantel?
Thanks
Let me check. I have the original as well
I can't seem to attach pictures here. So I posted it on FB so you can see. facebook.com/share/68s3SDUjjJ9pedPH/?mibextid=xfxF2i
Great review. After watching it, I think I will hold off on the Arc XL. I have 2 Roccbox’s, an Ooni Karu16, and a Brevillle Pizzaiolo so I don’t really need it.
No link for the door?
In my opinion the arc fits in the category of people who want to master the art of cooking a good pizza but don't want a big oven. The Roccbox makes pizzas but it's so tight that you don't really have the same "pizzaiolo" experience of dome or arc. All the magic of puting the pizza inside the oven, making the corniccione, the rotation , etc. is not the same in a little pizza oven like the roccbox.
Don't get me wrong, Roccbox is awesome, but making pizza is not always about best statistics and efficiency.
Do you like the Arc XL more than the Roccbox?
For the most part yes. Price and portability are the main draw backs in that comparison.
I just got my Gozney XL Arch and was having issues with ash. What do you recommend I use to clean the oven between pizzas ? Thanks
I will usually use a peel to scrape it toward the back.
Remember gozney saying it only takes 25 min for the roccbox to be ready? yeah..
Transport the roccbox with the strap it comes with in the box! Not sure if the Ark comes with a strap?
Door seems like no brained
