Go for the one on sale. Both do the exact same things. As previous commenters noted, presets are redundant. Different names do similar things. I love my crockpot express and it was $30.00 cheaper at the time.
This review seems slightly contrived. The Instant Pot doesn’t have a “cheesecake” button either and they are a fan favorite dessert. There’s no need to have a button for everything. Some things are simply trial and error while most things have been covered in a recipe online. Rice comes out perfectly every time once you have the right recipe. White / brown and jasmine rice’s each have their own cook times and recipes.
Thanks my friend just the info I was looking for. I prefer a stainless steel pot over the Crock Pots non stick and the option for a Ceramic Non Stick Pot is a plus. Instant Pot for me!
I have one, my family has the other. No difference at all, buy whichever one thats on sale.. they cook the exact same way. Anyone that can tell the difference between meat done in a teflon pan, as opposed to stainless, is a liar. Gordon Ramsay uses teflon in half his franchises, so does Flay.
I just ordered the IP. I was leaning toward Crock for its no stick pot but I also have read the coating is cheap. I can buy an upgrade for IP later if desired. I agree with you- either brand is probably just fine for most people.
I bought the Crockpot one. It's a brand name I trust. My original one had a defect and they replaced it quickly and at no cost. I got 2 more for siblings of mine, no regrets! Money well spent.
Love my Crockpot (bought it simply because in Europe it is only option available). But its great! You can brown anything, just use browning/sautéing option. I even bake potatoes and bread in it. Potatoes end up perfectly crispy and nothing sticks to the pot.
If you read your manual/ directions on the other cooker (Crock Pot) It will tell you to press button Beans/Chili for manual mode. This will allow the widest range of manual settings.
I wish you'd do a comparison between the Instant Pot and Magic Chef 6 Qt. All-in-One Multi-Cooker. It does have a stainless steel inner pot and seems to have more similar functions to the Instant Pot.
I got that crock pot for $89 4 in a 8 quart and the instant pot 8-quart was running at 169 not a win for an instapot... The only true difference is the stainless steel inside which doesn't Brown any better that's bullshit
I've been trying to figure that out too (I own the CP). I'm hearing conflicting things online and the website and manual doesn't say. I bought it when it was $35 during Labor Day at Best Buy. I have a Total Tech membership so it was a no brainer to buy it as Instant Pot Duo at Walmart (right now) is $50. My CP inner pot is already scratched. I don't think it's Teflon but I do think it has PTFE or something like that...Once I find out I'll let you know.
Good grief. I love product reviews so that I can figure out if I need to upgrade or replace my kitchen items. This review seems to lack accuracy in reporting. I'll assume that the presenter was unaware that the Instant Pot that was used in the comparison was an outdated model. The one I purchased several years ago has a bean/chili button. Also the rice I make turns out just fine, so I'm guessing it's operator error?
I have 2 instant pots and one Elite brand electric pressure cooker. I hardly ever use the elite. I find that my instant pot cooks more evenly and is easier to use. The Elite's stainless steel coating is coming off anyway. Thanks for the reviews on those two.
I got a crock pot express and mine has a Manuel setting? No biggie that I did not get the shiney steel pot I can always purchase one for 20 dollars .. but you no what ? They are literally the same pot.. except the crockpot express does not sound like a droid ... 😔 and that my only complaint.. I love the r2d2 sound of instant pot
Yes, Making rice in the IP tends to stick to the bottom of the pot. They do sell a nonstick aluminum insert for $15-$20, however, Aluminum doesn't heat and brown as well as stainless steel, so it is a uni-tasker. Also, No need for a chili button. There are plenty of IP chili recipes to use with manual settings.
No. Rice does not stick on the IP. I cook rice all the time and have never seen that effect shown on the video. Get your water to rice ratio correct: 1 cup rice to 1 cup water plus 1/2 cup water for cooking loss. So, 1 cup rice to 1.5 cup water. 2 cup rice to 2.5 cup water. White rice 6 minutes, brown 20 minutes.
Is it normal for the crock pot express to release steam as it heats? I feel like it’s releasing steam for a long time makes me think it’s going to pop open
@cnet I feel like you're misrepresenting Instant pot in this segment, as they have several models other than the Lux, all of which include the beans and Chili feature. (I had to do a lot of model research to pick one) I think a better comparison video would be the original 6 qt Instant Pot vs 6 qt Crock Pot, which is likely what Crock Pot was intending to rival. That said, excellent video highlighting the other differences, thank you!
I don't get the whole Instant Pot thing...I must be doing something wrong, but I certainly don't ever actually get a meal on the table in a half-hour like it claims. I prefer my old crockpot, honestly.
sandy43935 I do get 1/2 hour to 1 hour meals mine (CrockPot brand instant pot/pressure cooker) and love the option of that versus 4-6 hours from my Crockpot. Love that for saving time and electricity!
One of the old crock pots, which you can get in any thrift store, will last years. The new stuff is much better at becoming non-functional after a set period of time.
a "crock pot" that you talk about is a SLOW COOKER.. totally different appliance. The INSTANT POT is an ELECTRIC PRESSURE COOKER. CrockPot the brand makes an electric pressure cooker.. and that is the device above...
The setting on Instant Pot for the length of time it cooks rice is probably too long. All you have to do is use manual and set the proper time for the type of rice. I don't have an IP, I have a Cosori, and I never use the preset rice time, it's too long as are most of these EPC's. But using the manual and setting it correctly, you'll get perfect rice.
Actually no JJ, the Lux version still does not have a dedicated chili function, however the other models do, (Duo, Duo Plus, Smart and Ultra). Which all except the Smart comes in 3, 6 and 8Q sizes. There are a couple of models that have a 5Q size too
who cares about the amount of buttons. as long as it does what you want it to. I'm still debating because of the inner pot. stainless steel or non stick? 🤷🏽♀️
you can make chili easily in the Instant Pot what are you talking about????? Also... check your ratios for your rice. an Electric pressure cooker traps the moisture so things end up a bit wetter.. knowing that you adjust your times.
Me 3! I got the Crock Pot one shown above and my son liked it so I gave it to him and bought myself one with more functions. It lives on my counter because I use it several times per week. Since I got it I haven't used my slow cooker once and my oven maybe 3 times. I love how it can make anything, including baking bread! I got rid a few other appliances because of it. Now if only it could do dishes and fold laundry, it would be perfect!
Instant pot is better choice and i cook brown rice and it comes out great and i cook quiona 1 min in it came out excellent and i think this video did not represent the instant well and you dont need a button for everything manuel button is great feature for the instant pot it gives flexibility
the IP inner pot is better. It is not a hassle to clean. Further, it is not from a toxic non stick coating... so no poisons in your system. I have never had an issue with stuff sticking. The 1 or 2 times they did.. it was super easy to get it off.
Instant pot tiene el recipiente de doble fondo de stainless steel, mucho mejor que cual quiere otro recipiente de "teflon" u otro antiadherente!!! Chequeen el dato!!!!
Good for you! I got a IP myself quite recently. I have cooked rice, tenderloin, mac-n-cheese, Baby back ribs, pot roast with vegetables, even a cake. IP has given me confidence to experiment and cook more. The simple set it in the sink with hot water and dish liquid soap makes it super easy to clean.
One of any kind of device is NOT going to do everything for you.We are not like the cartoon,"The Jetsons".We do not live in a world where everything is done in seconds with the touch of a button. Not yet, anyway.
I love my Anova Sous Vide immersion cooker as well... Best steaks ever! But wait for over an hour to eat a meal after coming home from a long days work? I think not! Unless you want to do a lot of prep work pre cook and freeze. They each have their place! I love my IP Ultra! BTW you need to learn to layer your food in a pressure cooker just like a slow cooker. Since the heating element is on the bottom, need to put the dense root vegetables in first so that you don't have the overcooked spots. You can also use the steamer trivets or a pot in pot idea with no burn spots. Oh and you still need to brown your Sous Vide cooked meat as well for the best taste. These multi mode electric Stainless Steel insert pots can do that for you, not as good as an iron skillet or grill granted, but they do well in a pinch! ;-)
Go for the one on sale. Both do the exact same things. As previous commenters noted, presets are redundant. Different names do similar things. I love my crockpot express and it was $30.00 cheaper at the time.
I completely agree. I got my crockpot express on a clearance sale at a retail wholesale club and I love it.
I need to get new eardrums after the first 3 seconds of this video :'(
Oh Gosh!!!! My tympanum!!!!
Oh my gosh, I thought it was just me!
Sub titles are needed on this video, I don't know what he is saying, and I can't read lips.
Coz ur an idio t
Who was the genius that thought having that sound go off was a good a idea
Crock Pot does have a Manual Mode: As per the directions, "select Beans/Chili, and adjust the pressure and cook times as desired.
Exactly. Some people just dont READ.
Thank you for that tip.....trying to know what my Crockpot Express can do
This review seems slightly contrived.
Perfectly said.
lol cheesecake button haha I thought the same, that's a latino comment about chili I think, I've literally eaten it once in my life haaaa
mmmmmm cheesecake
I have the Crock-Pot Express and I love it
Thanks my friend just the info I was looking for. I prefer a stainless steel pot over the Crock Pots non stick and the option for a Ceramic Non Stick Pot is a plus. Instant Pot for me!
I've heard you can buy the steel pot separately if you want to have the choice of either one for the Crock Pot.
I've never had rice stick to my instant pot. Honestly, think you're adding too much water.
my thoughts exactly
I have one, my family has the other. No difference at all, buy whichever one thats on sale.. they cook the exact same way. Anyone that can tell the difference between meat done in a teflon pan, as opposed to stainless, is a liar. Gordon Ramsay uses teflon in half his franchises, so does Flay.
I just ordered the IP. I was leaning toward Crock for its no stick pot but I also have read the coating is cheap. I can buy an upgrade for IP later if desired. I agree with you- either brand is probably just fine for most people.
Agreed
I have the Crock Pot Express and have used it many times. The non stick coating is still in good condition. It has not peeled from inside the pot.
Not true at all... Gordon is not a fan of teflon. Doesn't bake the same
I bought the Crockpot one.
Crockpot of course order me one from Kohl’s yesterday on the Black Friday deal and picked up in the store.
I have crockpot and works just fine. Use wood or silicone utensils!
The rice sitting on the crockpot is your manual setting you can go down to three mins on it
If you read your manual/ directions on the other cooker (Crock Pot) It will tell you to press button Beans/Chili for manual mode. This will allow the widest range of manual settings.
Ok 7th but I love are old crock pot with ceramic inner bowl
I wish you'd do a comparison between the Instant Pot and Magic Chef 6 Qt. All-in-One Multi-Cooker. It does have a stainless steel inner pot and seems to have more similar functions to the Instant Pot.
I have the crock pot. Love it!!
Are the inner pots interchangeable between the two cooker?
Now I still do not know witch one to buy, for me this is not a very good review.
I got that crock pot for $89 4 in a 8 quart and the instant pot 8-quart was running at 169 not a win for an instapot... The only true difference is the stainless steel inside which doesn't Brown any better that's bullshit
What material is the inner pot from crockpot made from? Is it Teflon?
Thanks!
I've been trying to figure that out too (I own the CP). I'm hearing conflicting things online and the website and manual doesn't say. I bought it when it was $35 during Labor Day at Best Buy. Damn ip owners are like iphone owners !!!!
ZoolucalipDLbgang Hustla This comment makes me want to buy the crock-pot 😁
🤣🤣🤣
hahahaha
Smmfh I'm an instant pot owner now lol
Good grief. I love product reviews so that I can figure out if I need to upgrade or replace my kitchen items. This review seems to lack accuracy in reporting. Thank you for the great review! You answered all of my questions in one well done segment.
I have 2 instant pots and one Elite brand electric pressure cooker. I hardly ever use the elite. I find that my instant pot cooks more evenly and is easier to use. The Elite's stainless steel coating is coming off anyway.
Thanks for the reviews on those two.
I thought the song in the beginning was El Jarabe Tapatío. I even started dancing.
Got my Crockpot express for $20 bucks. Great deal!
I got a crock pot express and mine has a Manuel setting? No biggie that I did not get the shiney steel pot I can always purchase one for 20 dollars .. but you no what ? Fantastic review. Thank you, your video was really helpful!

Crock Pot is an American company. Since there's really no difference in the cookers, other than this, I am going with Crock Pot.
MyAvatarTablet 2 me too! I love mine!
"compared to the crockpot's eight"
[shows a close-up which clearly shows 12 different settings]
Stainless steel is always healthier than non-stick
Really? You actually ate both?
They are both stainless steel??
I don't get the whole Instant Pot thing...I must be doing something wrong, but I certainly don't ever actually get a meal on the table in a half-hour like it claims. I prefer my old crockpot, honestly.

This is hard to decide
One of the old crock pots, which you can get in any thrift store, will last years. The new stuff is much better at becoming non-functional after a set period of time.
525Lines , thank-you! For that very helpful advice!

I understand. i think most people are looking at it for making things they could easily make in a slow cooker.
Hah - yeah, as in future door stop?
Thank you for the information!

Guess I have to get Both🤣😍
Some instant pots come with ceremic coated non stick bowls like mine
That prolonged horn blast at the beginning of the video? If that is how all CNET videos begin I will not be watching any further videos from CNET.
Haha, I didn't even notice until you pointed it out, but you're right. It's offensively obnoxious!
Exactly wtf was that shit??
music hater

You know they dnt care right
Guy: Rice is mushy 😟
Me: Have you tried measuring water with finger method lol 🤣💀

Despite this being a little over a week old, the instant pot exampled has to be out of date, every version I see online has a Beans/Chili option.
Actually no JJ, the Lux version still does not have a dedicated chili function, however the other models do, (Duo, Duo Plus, Smart and Ultra). Which all except the Smart comes in 3, 6 and 8Q sizes. There are a couple of models that have a 5Q size too

I just got the Crock pot express for my birthday and it's AMAZING!! 🙂
instant pot for sure. and this 6in1 is too old. got my 7in1 last year which also have pressure selection
you can make chili easily in the Instant Pot what are you talking about????? Also... check your ratios for your rice. an Electric pressure cooker traps the moisture so things end up a bit wetter.. knowing that you adjust your times.
I love my Instant Pot
ME TOO!!!

Buy both
Sorry, Your review is too short !! Not enough info for the items !
Chili and rice don't measure up alone.
Silly review! It’s easy to make chilli in an instant pot :)
whaaat instant pot is 119$ and crock pot 110$ on amazon, oh its 2020, nevermind
look on Walmart app i just ordered the crock pot one for 35 dollars
CNET credibility is iffy
Upfront Crock-Pot Express says press the chili button goes to manual time

They had these in Japan for years! Lol
Instant pot tiene el recipiente de doble fondo de stainless steel, mucho mejor que cual quiere otro recipiente de "teflon" u otro antiadherente!!! Chequeen el dato!!!!
It's all about taste. Not time............
I would get Both!
I probably will end up getting both! Lol
I’m deaf now thanks
This video did not help at all.
I.cook rice in the instant it came out nice fliffy and maybe he put too much water in the rice
The reason why the rice is so sticky, is too much water and not enough oil. USER ERROR.
I make rice in my crockpot express and it come out perfect everytine just important to use oil and strain and drain the rice beforehand
I love my instant pot mini I’ve made rice, spaghetti, Mac n cheese, chocolate lava cake, Oreo cheesecake mm mmmm
Good for you! I got a IP myself quite recently. I have cooked rice, tenderloin, mac-n-cheese, Baby back ribs, pot roast with vegetables, even a cake. Instant pot for the win lol
One of any kind of device is NOT going to do everything for you.We are not like the cartoon,"The Jetsons".We do not live in a world where everything is done in seconds with the touch of a button. Not yet, anyway.
Neither. Get a sous vide and stop having over cooked spots
I love my Anova Sous Vide immersion cooker as well... Best steaks ever! But wait for over an hour to eat a meal after coming home from a long days work? I think not! Never tried sous vide rice or chili. Is it good?
I have an Anoca sous vide and it's perfect for many things but I also have a crockpot express which is perfect for shrimp fried rice
If your Indian you better get the ip
Omg bomb
Instant pot is Canadian designed and Made in China.
