Excellent. After years of indoor hydro. I've gone outdoors and into garlic production. Your technique is identical to mine. Thanks for the plywood planting template.
Hi welcome to the garlic side of things, glad to hear of our similar techniques. The plywood template has saved me hours and hours also saved my body for more abuse elsewhere in the garden. Thanks for watching and your comments.
GENIUS
Hi thanks for watching, appreciate the comment
We have a saying for garlic in New Zealand. Plant on the shortest day and pick on the longest day.
Hi Ian I like the saying! If I tried that here I would have to plant garlic in 2 feet of snow!
I think this saying and idea is great for the warmer climates like here in Texas.
What happened? I always enjoyed what you had to say and learned some things too! Why did you quit making the videos? Did you go to a different platform?
Hi things got a little hectic around here, I kept planting etc but did not put many vids together. I was able to get in 5000-6000 garlic this fall and plan on starting the videos back up in the spring (Mar-Apr). Thanks for checking in. How did/is your growing going? Any specific topics you want as a focus for some videos?
Great video thanks but what about watering ?
Hi Lee, I did not water the garlic this year. We had quite a mild wet spring even mild early summer. The compost and mulch I threw on in the spring helped keep moisture in and temperatures lower at the roots. Usually in my climate we dont water once July starts. Last few weeks before harvest its good not to water. What I do is watch the plants for signs of needing water (drooping leaves the obvious one), and I check the soil under the mulch every now and then to see how dry it is, if dry down an inch or two I would water. Thanks for the question
My first year growing some. By seeding late fall does it just sit there dormant till next year ? Or does it germinate in fall ? That seeding jig is a great idea thanks
Great thing to try growing! No the garlic will not sit dormant however, If planted too early, then you can get top / green growth before winter (not ideal) and if planted too late not enough root growth will occur and this can lead to a lower survival rate and smaller bulbs. If you are in an area with cold winters best time is 2-3 weeks after first frost and before the ground freezes solid for the winter (for me its usually early november). In warmer climates like California it can be planted in January or February. Best of luck!
What’s the variety of your garlic, please?
Hi Ming I grow Music its a porcelain variety, my favorite, not too strong but large consistent bulbs.
Easy Garden Hacks Thank you 🙏. Happy gardening 🌹🎋
What growing zone are you located in?
Hi Andi Zone 6a
how many kgs do i need to plant on one acre
Hi Penny the exact amount required will vary based on variety, clove size and plant spacing. I have not hit this level yet but based on some research and math you are looking at anywhere between about 275kg - 400kg per acre.
