Thanks so much for having me on this Jamie!! I had a blast with it 🙏
The pleasure was all mine. Great playing as always bro. 😎
Both my favourite sax players on UA-cam playing amazingly together!! Bravo to you both!!👏👏👏👏👏
It's not the same in a different key. It's an entirely different piece of music you've just played, but played brilliantly by you and as usual.
That’s right. That’s the joke. 😂
This was possibly the most burning intro I have ever heard. 😮
Thanks man. 🙏🏻
Thanks Mr Anderson. Very interesting improvisation by you and Mr Pollack.
Thanks for listening
it is brilliant, love it, you both sound incredible together
Thank you so much!!
The head is cursed, the solos are great 😍🤣
🤣
This is awesome. My two favourite sax teachers and all round geniuses! Thanks guys. Could listen to this all day. ❤
Cheers man 🙏🏻
Oh this is really good, especially with the two saxes playing back and forth...love it!
Thanks a lot!
Outstanding! So cool to hear both saxes together 👏👏🌷
Thanks for listening
You guys are unbelievable! Your duet brought a smile to my face - first one today! Thank you.
Wow, thank you!

@DavePollack
Jerry Bergonzi, with whom I studied, used to do similar fun/funny reharmonizations including, “A Train” in C but the 2nd chord changed to C maj9 with melody returning back to scale degree natural 5 on the 2nd chord (!)… we would laugh so hard !
Another is, “A Train” in C (original melody notes) but the 2nd chord is E maj9#11 or E 9#11 hahaha 😝
**Thank you Mr Anderson & Mr Pollack for another great video and insights.
I can’t wait to start my late-in-life sax journey with you; I didn’t study sax with Bergonzi (decades ago) I was working on several graduate degrees at NewEngCnsrvtry in composition and performance (not sax).

Great comment, thanks! ☺️
There Will Never Be Another Giant.
Great lesson thanks.
There will never be another step
Yeah the chord progression totally sounds like There Will Never Be Another You (especially at bar 9 of the form)
🙏🏻
You should call this version BABY STEPS!
Very good
Totally awesome, you two! You’re both a constant inspiration
Thanks so much!
Hilarious but also sounds very cool.
Thanks!
BEAST! I subscribed
🙏🏻
Baby Steps to Giant Steps
👍🏻
Really enjoyed that !
Glad you enjoyed it
Love this 😊 Another favourite online teacher
Yay! Thank you!🙏🏻
Damn, your Tenor sounds lit!
Thanks man 🙏🏻
Cool idea and fun execution. (Plus, nice little quote of "Pent-up House"!)
Thanks!
Thanks!
You are my hero!
Oh thanks 🙏🏻
I really enjoyed listening to two excellent saxophonists playing a nice tune... But it is 0% Giant Steps.
That’s kinda the joke isn’t it?
Hahaha taking this to the jam sessions!
Ha! Great
Gents - live joint gig... London. Please and thank you.
Thanks for the great suggestion!
So great! How about #MakeCherokeeABallad? 😂
🙏🏻
Loved it! I´ve heard a passage of Sonny Rollins solo on Tenor Madness on the first impro you made just by yourself... I wish I could have that quick mind and fingers to be able to do that!
I also have to say that I really dig your way of playing, really bluesy to my ears...
Well spotted on the quote! Great knowledge. 👍🏻
Jamie, brilliant little arrangement. Thinking about that Caravan arrangement. You should do more arranging! (Maybe you do and we just don’t hear it!) Anyway great stuff. Not really Giant Steps anymore, but it is Happy Steps! 😊😊😊
Great suggestion!
Its always struck me as curious that the melody of GS is simply (mostly) a descending major 7th arpeggio which minors. Yet if you try to play over that it never works.
👍
Great collaboration! My favorite sax teachers! Nice tune. Still recognizable as "Giant Steps", but a bit more "beboppy" and with an almost singable melody! It just needs a good text. But it doesn't sound very Coltrane-like.
🙏🏻
#makeGiantStepsEasier - I am ready to take this new Giant step! That arrangement was spot on, Jamie! Glad to hear you did another co-op video with another great UA-cam sax mentor. I miss them! Hope others follow suit. FYI - You left about a minute of blank space at the end. "They'll tell you I'm insane - But I've got a blank space, baby - And I'll write your name(s)" (thanks Taylor Swift).
Dang!! I’ll try and mend the end. Thanks for pointing it out. 👍🏻
So much fun!! You never disappoint.
When can we find the backing track for this?
Tag me in the inner circle and I’ll chuck it up. 👍🏻
@@GetYourSaxTogether Thank you, I will do that right away
I'm calling this; The Dave & Jamie's SMOOTH JAZZ GIANT STEPS Version. This was awesome playing and great for cruising in the ride. When is the CD coming out? :)
Can’t see the smooth jazz connection?! But whatever, I’ll take it! 🤣
You and Dave are the “Smooth” in the Jazz. 👀🎼🎷🎶 Again, that was some awesome playing.
🙏
🙏🏻
You and Dave sound great as always, but I don't understand why you changed the melody. That makes it a different song. At that tempo there's no problem playing right melody - even in B!
Yeah, I think you kinda missed the concept of this video? 🤣
@@GetYourSaxTogether Not really. I fully understand diatonic, but the emphasis seemed to be that Giant Steps is too hard at the John Coltrane speed and in the key of B. Simply slowing it down takes care of that. Changing the key and/or the tempo doesn't change the essence of the song.
"In this week's lesson I take the infamous Giant Steps and make it, easier!" - Changing the melody makes it a different song. It doesn't make playing Giant Steps easier because you're no longer playing Giant Steps.
Just my opinion...
any hints on that beautiful altissimo growl at about 20 seconds?
I’ve got an altissimo video. Go and find that. 👍🏻
Nice work, but I heard Dave P. play Giant Steps at 400 bpm. Isn't that impressive?
Well, yeah, super impressive!
A song by any other name...
🙏🏻
Maybe call it Baby Steps?
Yeah not bad!
You guys ARE kidding, right?
Of course.
@@GetYourSaxTogether I apologetically bow to the new recognized masters of sarcasm, gentlemen!
Coltrane must be rolling around in his grave
I think he’d appreciate the humour actually. Plus, I’m sure he’d be flattered that people are still talking about his music 65 years later!
Did I get here a bit early? It's only 2am where I'm at.. and I'm also making 'Giant Steps' bit easier... for the late night snack fridge in the dark. Sounds awesome Jamie & Dave!🥨🥯🍗🧀🍿
Ha! Enjoy. Food and video.
@@GetYourSaxTogether Absolutely, Its my late night Diet-tonic
its now not giant steps
Well spotted. 😉
You're a real player dude 💪🏻 I play alto.
