  • Today we're going to talk about how to clean handmade wire jewelry using two of my favorite polishing products. This dry polishing technique is the fastest and easiest way to maintain a beautiful finish on your handmade wire wrapped or wire woven jewelry. And it's the same technique that I use to keep all of the handmade jewelry in my personal collection looking beautiful and ready to wear.

    Just wanted to say a big, "THANK YOU!!", for doing this video, and sharing your favorite ways and insights on cleaning/polishing handmade wire wrap jewelry or any jewelry for that matter. I really appreciate it. Techniques like cleaning and polishing may seem mundane to a lot of folks, but my feeling is, "Why make or buy a beautiful piece of handmade jewelry if its maintenance/care is not going to be just as important a consideration as any of its other features (design, materials, wearability and durability). Another gem to add to my jewelry making arsenal!!

      You're very welcome, Gaynor! That was a great question. Thank you for asking me to make this video. I couldn't agree more that knowing how to properly clean, polish, and maintain your wire jewelry is every bit as important as knowing how to design and create it. And this is especially true for those who sell handmade jewelry. A dull finish instantly reduces the perceived value of jewelry in the eyes of buyers. So, it's harder to get top dollar for your work if you skip those important steps.

    Those earrings look great! I wanted to tell you I bought the torch you use from the link on your video. Your brand torch works a lot better.

    I can't thank you for how in depth you went here. I bought both of these products in the past due to other YT wire people recommending them in their own videos ~ none of them went THIS in depth, though. You literally answered every single question I still had at this point after using them both. I could just bear-hug you, I'm so grateful.

      That's great! I'm so glad this video was helpful. I'm always happy to answer questions that you haven't found answers for elsewhere. So, please feel free to ask me anything about wire jewelry anytime! I get many of my best ideas for new blog posts and videos from my readers and viewers. 😊

      @@Door44Studioshi there, me again! I feel like I'm losing my mind... did you have a portion in 1 of your amazing tutorials addressing dremels and buffing out tool marks from bare copper with 1? I could have sworn it was you but now I'm unsure as I can't find whatever it is I'm looking for. LOL, good story, right? 🤦‍♀️ I'd really like to get on the dremel train but have no clue what I need (or don't need). Any help you could provide would be incredibly appreciated ~ regardless, thank you for your time in reading this. Hope you and yours are doing well!

      @@treesapgrl hi! I'm afraid that wasn't me. I don't use a dremel or any other type of power rotary tool because I don't have a dedicated studio space where I can contain the mess that those tools create. I'm not sure whose video you might have watched that talked about using a dremel tool. But if I happen to run across a good video on that topic, I'll let you know.

    Hiya! Fabulous video! When I first looked at the picture for this video, I was like ~ I love those earrings! Cool 🙃 Though finishing and polishing is a good thing 👌

      Glad you like those earrings, Caroline! I probably should have labeled that image to make it more clear that it's a before/after polishing example. That's a very old Door 44 design from early on in my ventures into wirework. But I'm going to refresh some of my old earring designs for an upcoming tutorial. So, stay tuned and I'll show you how to make them!

    Hi. Thank you for sharing your method of cleaning copper and silver jewellery. Just one little question - does the impregnated cloth leave any residue on the skin or should it be wiped off befor selling?

    • @Door44Studios
      @Door44Studios  Рік тому

      Great question! Sunshine cloths will leave residue on your fingers while you're polishing jewelry. You can wear gloves while you polish if that bothers you. But polished jewelry will not leave any residue on skin while the jewelry is worn. Not noticeably, anyway. The wax hardens to form a protective coat on polished jewelry. Sort of like the way car wax hardens after you buff it.
