Jason let any and all negative comments go in one ear and out the other. You are one amazing harmonica player and teacher. Thank you for all of these free lessons.
❤️ 💙 💜 I do let em go but I think it's good to address that people who make negative comments are in a lot of pain. I think it's good because lots of people get them and might not think of that.
Think i might sh*t my pants if Jason Ricci walked past my house playing the harmonica, all the while reminding myself that "today's gonna be a great day"! Haha... Rock on, J! 😎👍Love the free friday's! You're the best!!!
Decades ago....very long ago, I was 14 and started digging the blues. We never got the originators around here on the radio, it was Corky Siegel ... Savoy Brown boogie etc type blues. So, I didn't know about guys like Little Walter until many decades later on. But, there was a blues band in my city. (Windsor ON)...don't remember how good they actually were then, but the harmonica player, Joe Rispoli, 'imprinted' me like a baby duck hatchling with its mother. To my teenage self , he was a blues god, lol., even tho he was only 4 or 5 years older than me. He was truly a great harmonica player, singer & piano player. His playing just excited the living shit out of me back then, lol. Never made it big, dunno why. The Chicago boys had nothing over him I always thought. I've been hooked ever since. Got to see him play a later on in my late 30's at a local bar. He was STILL great, to my surprise. Passed away a few years back, sadly. I owe him my love for blues harmonica. I remember taking the bus downtown one Saturday afternoon, and there he was, playing his harp & walking down the street, big huge hippie shoulder length bushy type curly hair....lol. I loved it. He was a true bluesman. Ah, but now Jason Ricci! ... now that's real special kind of talent indeed... how anyone could talk shit about him, I don't get. People that have struggled & conquered, are always truly great people I've noticed in life. The haters never conquer anything.
In the 80s, The Cambridge Harmonica Orchestra was playing a venue in Boston and the whole orchestra walked out and through (I think it was) an ice cream place next door. Like a harmonica flash mob playing Second Line. You got a great blend of instruction, humor, and genuine personality.
I really like the walk outside, man. I wouldn’t mind seeing more of New Orleans in your videos, even if it’s just your musings and conversations as you walk around. Great lesson. I love the Mother Mojo album.

Some people have nothing to offer the world, so they troll the people who do something worthwhile and help others. Thanks for the lessons Jason - you're great at what you do!
When I was teaching myself to play in the early '80s, I'd go walking down the railroad tracks outside the small town where I lived. Walking the tracks forces you into a cadence based on the spacing between ties. It was like a metronome, forcing me to time my notes to match my steps. The stakes were raised by having to listen for the Amtrak trains that came thundering through on the way to and from Chicago. One day a farmer working on his tractor in an adjoining field heard me and yelled that I should be playing in Nashville. That was definitely some positive reinforcement!
My 6th Grade Band teacher told us, "It's distracting if the audience can see your feet moving in a band concert, so practice _always_ tapping your toe with a small movement that can be concealed inside your shoe. When I took up the blues harp, it actually took me awhile to learn how to keep time _obtrusively._ Sax, drums, guitar, piano, vocals...none of it prepared me to _use_ my feet _as_ a percussion source. It really is a skill of its own...essential for blues...that classically trained musicians may find oddly difficult, even uncomfortable, at first. The really cool side effect is that it hasn't _just_ made me a better harmonica player; because of how the marching/walking/stomping translates, it has made me a better _drummer,_ too.

That was enjoyable. I go on a walk daily. It’s a must for my health. I find it hard to play while I walk so I don’t. But I’ve tried. The whole point of my walk is to escape so I keep it simple. Me the dog and my thoughts. Much love J
