What’s really interesting is Puss in Boots the Last Wish’s messages isn’t “your wish may never come true” but rather that you’re wish can come true without wishing. They all got what they wished for in the end without the wishing start. That, and I love how they tackle mortality

One thing I wish you had touched on is that Perrito isn't just simply content with who he is, he also has something he's striving for, and it's to be a therapy dog. He too wants to be something he doesn't think he is right now. And I think an important part of that is that what he wants is different from the others, Jack Horner greedily wants all magic for himself, Goldi wants a new family and Puss wants more lives. Perrito's goal is to make other people feel better, he's able to channel his desire for connection into this really positive thing he wants to do for others. Another big difference is that what he's looking for isn't an end goal, but a process. To an extent they all are looking for that, but intermediately they all want to get there by acquiring some nebulous or crazy externality to enable it. So he can just BE a therapy dog, he doesn't first need to magically wish for a new family or nine lives or magical supremacy to get there. And I think especially importantly is that while the others want some THING aren't truly considering the quality or meaning of the lives they think they'll get as a result, whereas Perrito does. He understands exactly what he wants.
And believe me, the more you truly understand what you want from life and how to get there, the healthier and stronger you will be, because I used to be on the shit end of that stick. In fact I believe you could convince Perrito of the truth, that his old family threw him away because they didn't want him and he would still truck on, albeit being naturally disheartened, because the addition of that story into his life would not shatter his narrative, who he is now and what he wants to do. Him understanding the full extent of how he's been mistreated in his life doesn't change things, especially because he is a therapy dog now, Puss and Kitty's therapy dog, and they love him.
And how's that for trope subversion? A pair of cats having a dog as an emotional support animal.

    • @princesspikachu3915
      @princesspikachu3915 2 місяці тому +8

It wouldn’t surprise me if Perrito was fully aware that he was dumped but doesn’t feel sorry for himself and doesn’t want others too. I think it explains why he wants to be a therapy dog. That desire didn’t just come out of nowhere. It fact I believe Perrito downplays his abuse when explaining his story to Puss and Kitty as a “funny story”.

Pocket full of posies? Yeah, that´s a song about a death plague.
River of relaxation? Remember how his owners finaly got rid of him? By trying to drown him in a river.
Field of quick and easy solutions? Well, what is usualy referred to as "quick and easy solution"? Suicide.
But I think that coincides with Perrito´s personality, when he had horrible life, but he is unaware of it.

I think it’s fair to say that most people have moved on from this movie since it came out. It was really popular for a few months but, naturally, people have found other films to obsess with. Yet for me, a year after watching it for the first time, I still adore every aspect of it. So much so that I would happily call it my personal favourite film of all time. Everything about it just works for me and every rewatch is something truly special for me
I could say that I love it entirely because of its quality elements that you mentioned in this video but honestly, I think my love is largely personal and subjective. You see, the message about valuing life came to me at just the right time for it to leave a major impression and I’ve still kept the main message close to my heart in the year since. Speaking of embracing what this movie has to say, I’ve been trying to become less cynical as of late entirely because of Perrito. That little dog has helped me to improve as a person. And finally, this movie has inspired me so much. I want to work in film in the future and watching this movie made me realise that what I want to do is tell stories which will leave an impact on people (like this film did with me)
Sorry for rambling, I could just go on about this movie for hours

Hey, buddy, from one random stranger to another, let me tell you something...
      You can do this.
Film is an artform that's used to tell stories for millions of people at a time to enjoy and learn from. If you're serious about using it to inspire others and leave a positive impact on them, then you have my full support. In my opinion, we need more people like you in the world. I'm a person who views storytelling as humanity's special and unique trait. It's an ability our ancestors utilized in the stone age to form social bonds and survive when others like us perished, and no other known organism in the universe has it but us. If this is the path you want to pursue in life, train and refine this skill the best you can. I hope you work hard to achieve your dreams, because I'm rooting for you.

I kinda see that, but this is still a movie that sticks at the back of my mind as an incredible movie, even now. And I have a feeling that a lot of people feel the same way. The movie has had a lot to say, but most people have already talked about it in great detail. We all appreciate everything this movie does so well compared to contemporaries from story, to characters, reinterpretations, animation, and depictions. But given that, we also all respect the movie, even if silently, and usually just bring it up when its relevant.
But TLDR. People probably havent moved on. Its just that what has needed to be said has been said, and it stuck with us all.

As someone who watched this movie later than most (because it released in 2023 for me) this was a movie I wasn’t expecting to fall in love with completely. However, not only is it one of my favourite animated moves besides the Spider verse movies, it also contains a message about life that I needed to hear and be told to me by the time I saw this movie in Cinema. It made me feel more confident in the ways I could improve my life going forward, how to feel about those closest to me and even gave me a confidence boost for asking someone out the week after I saw this. As Death says in this movie, “Live your life, live it well.” Thank you for making this video Storystreet, you are one of my favourite UA-camrs and I’m always looking forward to whatever videos you are going to release.

the problem (one of many!) with Wish is that it doesn't even have the guts to try and explain what the wish thing IS: as stated from Asha herself, "Don't stop wishing", rather than something on the line of "Try and make your wish come true". The whole wishes mechanism in that movie is confused, almost purposeless. It makes people look like they are defined by their wishes, their innrer obsessions, rather than their struggle to realize them. And even if PiB relies on this aspect of the One Wish, it also makes it clear that in the end we can get it by living at our best instead of relying on someone else to grant them -and Wish fails spectacularly at that, as the one person, King Magnifico, who would grant wishes, was replaced by the one person, Asha the Fairy Godmother who grants them.

Life on earth is twisted and broken. Fear runs rampant and a want for identity is as strong as ever. People want an identity. People want someone they can trust. In a world where you can’t trust almost anything, it’s scary. I have found my identity as a child of God, and I have found peace and someone to trust through that. While the people reading this comment have likely not found theirs in the same place I have, and while I encourage you to try it, I cannot force anyone into doing so. So all I’ll say is that good luck out there, reader. Be prepared to face this insane world. And there will always be someone who loves and cares for you, if it’s now or will be in the future for any one person.

Honestly if Jack Horner got his wish it would've been darker than one might first think. Jack gaining all of the magic in the world also means taking magic from fairy tale creatures/people who rely on magic to stay alive like the Gingerbread Man or Pinnochio. Those types of people would immediately die upon no longer having any of the magic that keeps them alive.

Just to defend Angela Carter, I think it's a valid reading of the Perrault tale that Puss in Boots is a manifestation of the cleverness the son inherited from the miller, as opposed to money or property.

I have intense thanataphobia and sometimes stay up till like 5am worrying about my health, terrified of dying in my sleep. Puss in boots the last wish is a movie I usually put on in those moments because it helps with that fear.
Yes the movie ends and eventually I return to a state of panic but I always come back to the movie and it helps.
this analysis of the movie was fantastic and amazing :) Keep up the good work

Puss in Boots 1, was nice, I watched it when I was younger (probably 5-9 or some where around that time) but when I watched Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, I loved him even more than I already did after watching the original movie. The last wish only made me like Puss even more and tbh it gave me hope that life would get better, and I say this because I was going through anxiety disorder (and some depression as a result of that anxiety) through the entirety of 2022 (from January to December).
It wasn’t until I started going to therapy at the end of 2022 in December and watched The Last Wish, that I started finally picking up my life again and getting back to being myself and most importantly: Getting over my fears. That scene where Puss in Boots had a panic attack also helped, it reminded me of when I had one at the beginning of that year on the last week. And the way he stuck it to Death at the end there was just the icing on the cake, and ever since I first seen the movie (on the 25th of Dec) I loved it and Puss as a character so much more than I already did.
I think I might have over typed tho ngl 😅

Maybe far fetched for me to say, but I feel like this movie will stand with a few other legends years from now as a cult classic in it's own niche of animated movies. Even if people have moved on to other movies, it still rivals the quality of a lot of movies we get today that I'm totally going to forget about when I become an old man, but not this one.

If you're a big fan of fairy tale twisting mixed with engaging action, addictive characters, and investing plot, I HIGHLY recommend RWBY. All of the characters are based on fairy tales/folklore legends and takes cues from their origins and integrate it into the plot. The =re are amazing fight scenes that will have you stunned at the visuals. The show sets a strong first impression & gets better with each season.

can i add that through Jack Horners acts torwards his workers it shows in a way exploitation...in a funny way but it shows lightly how a person cause of greed(the main theme of the movie)can use others and step above them..
Maybe i overanalyze but seriously it is a nice touch that every character have more greed if you look a bit closer to even its lighter jokes.I really love this movie and it hits close home

I don't really ever understand lessons like 'accept yourself as you are'. I mean... i understand what they are trying to say but i just don't... get it you know? How can I say I am enough when I can see everyone else doing so much better. If we are all capable of doing anything and everything, what will it take for me to get there as well? Failures are stepping stones to success but isn't failing like really easy? Wait if that's just how my life is? An endless stairway of failure? I can't just be myself because the me is not good and that's not an assumption, but a fact to me. I don't want to waste my attempt at life, but that's what it feels like. I hope the next time i revisit this video, i will be able to say "Yep i get it" and overall be more compassionate with myself.

I would like this film so much more if the writing weren't so...bad? Like, by the end of the movie they have said the things they want you to get from it like 20 times, and by that point it's just like, is this a point you made or have you told me it so much that you forced me to accept the idea whether it is actually there or not? Its a decent movie, but I would never call it a masterpiece.
