A good teacher, supportive friends, and an adult willing to try something new on camera!?!?! - Prakshi is a rockstar and this video is my new favorite.
Yay, Prakshi! I learned how to ride a bike in my late 20's. I never had access to safe, bikeable outdoor spaces and someone to teach me until well into adulthood. I appreciate REI shedding stigma around adults learning these types of skills.
First off, big props to Prakshi for sharing her learning process. It can be scary to be a beginner, so thanks for letting us see your first bike ride! And also the enthusiasm of everyone watching was adorable :D
You're welcome! We invite you to take a class with us. Here's a link where you can check the availability in your area: bit.ly/3MvjL0Y If you don't see anything right now, check back, or talk to your local store. We're constantly updating our offerings.
This is so encouraging. I'm 31 and I never had a bike growing up except for a toy tricycle, and am going to sign up for a beginners' cycling class in April. I held off on it too long out of fear of embarrassment and that I was "too old to learn", but it was something I always wanted to do and I figured it was now or never.
Great motivational video 🤩 I'm 40 and still struggling to learn how to bike. Have had several failed attempts because I can't find a proper instructor like Joe here 😢 But this video inspired and motivated me.. I even cried when she started paddling with her friends cheering her on. I hope I will succeed like her 🙏🏻
Thanks! I'm still scared of falling so I'm very stressed and all tensed while on the bike which doesn't help at all. I hope it will eventually work for both of us 🤞🏻🙏🏻
I’m 24 and I’m just learning how to ride a bike and seeing other adults who don’t know how to ride makes me feel better on just learning how to ride a bike 😁
Im in my 40ths and start learning how to ride a bike :.im like Roxi ..but i did it in the first day of practice im super excited to be able to ride with people to the park ..👏🏼thanks for the video
Absolutely so proud of Prakshi!! I’m getting ready to transfer to a bigger university and wanted to learn to ride a bike to get around campus. I’m 20 and only got to where my parents loosened my training wheels. This video makes it look easier than I thought. Thank I appreciate you being so patient and encouraging as well as Prakshi having the courage to be filmed learning a new skill! 💕
I did not know this and still need to learn on my end. Great video and good job Prakshi! I'm looking forward to opportunities in my area once they're open and available.
I've got a bike for over a year with the intention of learning to ride but it just sits there staring at me. Inspired by Prakshis efforts. Let's see. Lol
In the past two years I have gotten back into bicycling in a big way. I just finished a tent camping bike tour but I am always riding alone which is boring at times. My partner never learned to ride but she wants to learn and I would love it if she could come with me on my tours. I am going to show her this video when she gets home from work. I'm hoping that it will really help to spark her interest in getting it all started. It was really cool to see Prakshi learn so quickly!
You'll made me feel comfortable! I'm learning how to ride a bike recently. And no one taught me this way. I tried to pedal with both my legs on the first day, first hour and unfortunately fell and had wounds. 😂btw, I'm 18 and rveryone said it was late. This video mskes me think i shouldn't feel bad about it
LOVE LOVE LOVE this video. You go girl. Welcome to the wide world of cycling. When the video started, I wondered if the trainer would take the pedals off and start with the scoot method. Bravo 👍. Thank you Prakshi for sharing with us all.🥰🚴♀️
When I learned how to ride a bike in the 80s, my dad just gave me a big ol' push and told me to pedal ha! I wish I learned using the methods in the video instead of the 'push and pedal and try not to fall' method!
Great video! I am middle-aged and haven’t ridden a bike since I was 12 so I am about to re-learn. We just moved to Amsterdam, the perfect place for biking. Struggling to find the right size bike for my short legs though.
I'm 35 and my husband is going to tech me how to ride a bike today. I. So nervous yet excited at the same time. This video definitely helps decrease the level of nervousness for me...I'm looking forward to my husband teaching me this skill and I know this is going to be an enjoyable and funny experience 😅
Awesome video I try to learn it too, with 34 years but for me its a little bit harder because my head overthinks big time, especially since i did it as a child and literally forgot how to ride a bike
I wish i lived in the US 😭 The roads are extremely wide and big But i live in an extremely populated area so the roads are small and everywhere is apartments I live in Istanbul there's barely any area which has suburbs lik in the us
@@rosearmada2 no😞.. no one in my house is helping me to learn bicycle, and also there is no park or play ground near my locality where i can try to ride it. it's been a month already, i still couldn't learn it 😞
When I learned I had the seat up and they said just go for it so I learned to bring the pedal up and push hard to start rolling bring up my left foot on the pedal and hope for the best
The best part?? When she actually peddled and rode a bike. As someone who is 30 and could never ride a bike I feel very liberated at that moment. It really made me want to learn it. Hopefully will post a positive update soon✌
Hi. I'm trying to teach my wife. We bought a second hand bike and started practices. Her bike has shock absorbers so the seat does not go below a certain level and its feet do not touch the ground. Therefore, he cannot sit and pedal in the first place. Will this prevent him from learning?
I can't believe people miss the obvious lesson in learning to ride a bike. Use the steering to keep your balance and use your balance to steer!!!! I sat with all my kids and taught them to steer into the direction they are leaning. I explained that this would put the bike back upright. After 5 minutes of practicing this and making it "instinct", they were riding on their own. Of course, how much steering depends on speed and that's something they figured out on their own. Then, to turn, they understood leaning was the first part, then steering into the lean. Again, how much leaning and steering depends and they figured it out.
I know this is old, but Im 16 learning how to ride a bike. Unfortunately my bike is too tall and only half my feet can touch the ground and I feel like thats the reason Im having so much trouble. I cant even propel myself properly with my feet or keep myself in balance, its so difficult for me to learn correctly. Is there any way I can learn when the bike is a but too tall for me, cause my bike seat wont go any lower :( i know this is a very difficult question but no adults will listen to me and rent me a bike that I can actually use I hope you can help me
if you are still trying to learn, go find a cheap(or borrow) kids bike which will be low to the ground, it will be exactly the same balancing and the physics
I can't touch the ground because I'm 4.8 feet and my bike is big for my size. What would you suggest? I'm scared because I just fell over when trying to practice😢 Saludos 😊
I'm having difficulty touching both my feet to the ground as I'm short in height. I'm only 5 feet 2 inches😅. I'm trying to learn riding bicycle at the age of 29! What should i do?
Borrow a smaller bike to get started. When you are confident, you do no longer need to reach the ground, you simply brakes down and at the end stand at the lower pedal and place the other foot on the ground as you come to an halt.
I am Tahmid ..age 21 and can't even ride bicycle..😢😢..Feel ashamed of telling others that someone can help me... I don't even have much friends...(All Girlfriends 😂)
The hardest part of learning for me is learning how to turn and finding someone who will take the time to teach you. In 68 years I have found no one willing to teach me for free or paid a reasonable tip.
just set up a bike they did the video, low seat, no pedals, feet on the ground and just spend lots of time getting a feel for what the bike wants to do. one method that is actually used by motorcycles is counter-steering where you push forward the side of the handle bar in the direction you want to turn. although at lower speeds counter balancing is necessary for sharper turns where when the bike leans in to the turn, you lean out.
Last time I rode a bike was when I was just 8 or 10 yrs old. I'm 42 now and just impulsively bought an MTB which I really don't need. Demn it's like I'm trying to learn again. Now I'm too shy to try it outside, a freakin' 40 year old who doesn't know how to ride a bike. Well, I guess I needed the bike after all. LOL

现在学会了吗?
Come on. This is your time , you got this💪
I haven't seen that technique to teach someone how to ride, this is a great strategy!!
Getting comfortable balancing is the key!
this is also how they teach people to ride motorcycles

I like to format of the video, It feels like a TV home makeover show😄
What is the name of this cycle?
If everyone has encouraging coach like Kevin we all can learn something new that too quickly
Oh Lexington P... Lexington Park! I happen to live like 6 blocks away. I hope we can see Prakshi out on the Gateway State Trail this summer!

idk but i think riding my scooter helped me learn how to ride a bike
for a scooter, you need speed to balance, same thing for a bike
Means you learn scooter before bike

That is no big deal. You simply start bunnyjumping/riding in a straight line, then start experimenting with small S-turns.
