The Bridge Act 1

This is the sound file of an opera I composed in the first half of 2021 to Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's Fairy Tale that was inspired by his conversations with Friedrich Schiller in the mid 1790s. The 'Green Snake and the Beautiful Lily' is an enigmatic story which demands a good deal of suspending disbelief. Since 1994 I had increasingly grown fond of this fairy tale and when I came across a dramatisation (by Benedict Wood) of the story which I decided to use as a libretto for the Opera. The music is initially modest and tonal, using traditional compositional techniques, and slowly the builds a mood as the characters are introduced in the first act.
