Unpopular opinion alert! The wife test drove a Highlander, a Telluride, an Explorer, and an Ascent and she fell in love with the Subaru. She didn’t care about the CVT or the MPG, and since we got Subaru VIP pricing vs full price for the Highlander....to get the features she wanted it made more sense to get the Ascent. But I will say the Highlander and the Telluride were a close second and third. Her biggest complaint was that the Highlander felt much larger than the Ascent while driving.
Virg Fresco no one is perfect my friend.. the way i see it is if toyota cant build a reliable car no one can imagine having a korean pos those things were catching on fire hahahH
These are so ridiculously well engineered, I've seen a couple Highlanders come through my immediate family and they're amazing, tanks, they never break, even at 330,000K on one of them.
A base Limited is the best bang for buck but that weird price difference for adding awd depending on trim is ridiculous. What may the cause for this increase?
What worries me is that if Motor Week, who rarely says anything negative, says the Hybrid CVT drones a bit, it might actually be really bad. I hope not!
Hobart Clarque The Highlander has considerably more power and weight. It’s a truck vs a car. The mileage rating system has changed so the Caprice wagon gets worse mpg and is dangerously slow.
Toyota should think wisely about driver seat update their driver seat is not comfortable for 5 '11'' or 6 feet person specialy thigh support needed for long drive
This car is disappointing because of too many changes to the worse. It no longer has the pop-up rear glass where you can split-open the back hatch. You also can’t get the highest tier with the 8 person configuration.
I just bought a 2020Limited. They are so much nicer than the low resale and unreliable Telluride. Also, many KIA owners buy logo covers to hide the KIA emblem. I don’t blame them.
Mel Rose The Telluride is a gas guzzler. It is already looking dated and will depreciate rapidly once the interest in it falls. The Highlander is a timeless design.
MONSTER FACE 👹 is what describes Highlander's exterior front fascia. It's hard edge appearance goes tribal with black war paint tear drops or what can also be called running mascara. It is unfortunate that Toyota and other manufacturers are rolling out some ridiculously hard faced vehicles that do not bode well for any redeemable aesthetic qualities.
The Highlander is the #1 third row crossover in America, selling about a quarter million a year. The redesigned model will only help that number grow. The new Hyundai palisade/Kia Telluride are great new market additions, and are basically a half size larger. Due to capacity limitations, they can only make 6-7k a month of those. Toyota didn't make the Highlander much larger because they say customers like the smaller size for better drivability, parking, garage access, etc Smaller is better for many in this class.
Toyota is not going to sell quarter million this time. Due to unprecedented demand, kia is ramping up production of Telluride to 100,000 units. Even more if demand continues. Also Hyundai can produce 100,000 units. That's 200,000 units of midsize SUV that didn't exist until last year. There is no way Toyota is going to sell quarter million this time around. I bet far less.
Shawn Lee they will sell it because it’s Toyota. Kia and Hyundai still have the name and people don’t like to buy them. Plus engine and transmission issues on them.
@@killabandit zero engine and transmission issues on either the Telluride or Palisade. The 3.8 is proven and has been out for over a decade and the transmission is a proven unit.
@@killabandit customers are buying Tellurides above MSRP and waiting around 3 months to get one. Nobody is buying highlander over MSRP. I think Telluride and palisade are going to dethrone highlander this year.
Shawn Lee only because Kia can’t build them as quick as Toyota. Keep talking out of your ass kid. Kia will never dethrone a Toyota. Has never ever happened with any manufacture.
I bought a 2021. It was even better than the 2020 I test drove. My biggest compliant would be the transmission. I previously owned a CR-V with a CVT, I thought I would hate CVT but Honda nailed it! The 8-speed transmission in my Highlander is awful! I can't understand why it shifts when it does and it is super jerky!
sleeksilver show me a review that says otherwise that has compared the new one? I’ve watched them all and none of them say they are better other than slightly bigger. Everything is cheaper in them. Hard plastics, buttons do not feel good. Most of the reviews say the highlander is like a Lexus inside and they are right. I drove one for 4 hours and it was great. Edit:" As I figured, you can't show me a review because it doesn't exist. What a idiot.

NA engine and true auto and this is why its the most reliable and segment leader..
Jesus H Medrano what? Toyota just issued recall for 3.2 million vehicles for fuel pump failures. How’s that reliability stock up?

@@virgfresco1403 at least toyota recalls cars and fixes the problems properly unlike Hyundai and Kia.
Why are some of these tests not including 0-60, 1/4 mile times, braking and handling at the old Drag-A-Way?
AmraphelofShinar because pointless to most consumers, even if fun for car enthusiasts.
@@edrcozonoking Yeah you right. I guess I'll have to keep watching the Retro Reviews for track tests of minivans and '80's Geo hatchbacks.

No worries - watch Savagegeese's review.
It's a Toyota, it will still be running around in 20 years.
Or maybe more
I want the hybrid model.
Except for towing, cost outlay, and decreased performance.
Food for thought, the highlander gets similarly rated fuel economy as the Chevy Capricd station wagon 25 years ago.
Hobart Clarque only difference is a Toyota will still be running 25 years later

I really wish MW would ditch the music and voiceover when doing the track testing, even for cars like this, but especially for anything sporty.
I blame these car magazines for creating the rough riding cars of today because of their constant criticism of any car that doesn’t turn on a dime.
600 miles between fill ups. me likey.

Am I crazy for liking the Hyundai Palisade a lot better?
i4 or L4? In-Line 4?
i and L are both used to say its an inline engine.
Actually a Z 4.
Looks like it should have a Subaru badge
Idk why but i don't find the new highlander attractive, though it is hideous either.
Zachary F. And this a problem now that there is the Telluride
I know, and dig that tiny handlebar mustache!
more like a KIA but yeah dont look like a toyota
