I used to collect memorabilia from Germany 1933 to 1945 (I have a very broad taste in antiques in general) and what I have noticed recently is that the quality of forgeries of authentic enamel signs have increased so dramatically that I really don’t know what to look for in my search for originality. The same applies for knives and daggers from that era. It is incredible.
I want to comment about something Peter has addressed before. I auction some extra items on eBay at times. Just recently I had both a 40 and 60 dollar item sold that people refused to pay for. I thought it was just expensive items that this was happening to. This must be some kind of sick game for people now. It's not strategic at these prices. Reform is desperately needed.
@@quanjil3918 Yes I've never even tried to sell on eBay it's full of scammers. I think there are many bored and broke people out there as well..People treat it like a garage sale. Sellers are always relieved when you pay promptly.
I have just returned home after having visited the Chritie's HQ in London, it's very eiery sense there. Staff don't have a sense of confidence. I did tell them hey guys have some good sense of customer service and business ethos. The staff kinda agreed. London.
With Yixing anything people are terrified of fakes and learning how to authenticate them especially from a photo isn't a skill you pick up easily, if at all. And big auction houses do slip up and list fakes, too, which adds to the issue. But it also means rare and authentic pieces slip by for cheap for people who understand what to look for.
Sir, I saw an article on my phone this morning that made me think of you. Sotheby’s is auctioning the artwork of a robot. We are actually screwed. 🙏🏻 thank you for your insight and knowledge.
Peter is clearly being paid by Christie’s and Sothebys to steer buyers away from eBay and over to them. If you need proof just look at how slick he looks this week. He must be spending that Sothebys money on makeovers and fine dining. They must be paying him to knock Dot Dot auctions out in CA too, they’ve got great stuff out there. Someone is eating well! This is bad, punchy 4am humor btw. (In case that needed saying)
I keep trying to convince myself to open up a live auction house. The boomers are getting older now and the predicted uptick in estates is coming soon.
The younger generation is not as thrilled with the old things as I am. Prices of some furniture has taken a nose dive from 40 years ago. My favorite auction houses in Richmond had to close because today’s buyers are not interested in old brown furniture.
We had a decent local estate auction house close about two years ago. I bought some good items from them. I think the pandemic and lack of in person buyers really hurt their sales.
Love your Chanel
15 years ago professionals said that fakes were becoming g so good that one day fakes vs authentic become the same ...that day has arrived
Yep! I picked one up at goodwill last week for $5.97.

eBay is hopeless - I gave up after trying a few times.

Thank you, lots of lovelies.
Thank you for uploading video
The pressure on the auction houses to find items of value almost forces action houses to let great fakes become not fake

Does that 3 friends of winter pattern give some extra value to a piece? It is considered rare? I got one this week. Thank you
