The difference is really big if you are on a good system. There is a lot of brightness on the zoom many people misinterpret for "tone curve" when in fact its noise. Noise can appear as gunk or glare on highs. Behind that glare is less information on each bird call than the Sony. Its a noisier and less controlled sound with an artificial sense of dynamics and for me, the glare causes fatigue over the Sony as well.

Agree, the D100 is way better than the H6. It would have been nice to have the H6 with the same quality preamps. Thanks for your input.

The H6 is quit close - I did not expect this!
The D100 is better but maybe just 10%?
And it is double the price and has no XLR inputs!
As I always say - even in the "low budget segment" we will get excellent devices nowadays!
What a great time for nature recording.

Well, the volume on the H6 was max out while the D100 was at 5 but still you are right, the budget device could do the job. This is our time to record, thanks my friend.

At first I thought the Sony sounded more "natural" or that the H6 is too bright, but in the end the difference in sound seems to be a simple tonal balance, not a difference in resolution. With a slight attenuation of the treble, it would be possible for the H6 to be a real bargain, given the price of the D100 these days! Thanks for the nice comparison 👍

I'm amazed how quiet your H6 sounds, especially as you said you had the preamps maxed out. My H5 is super noisy from at least 7 on!

    Hi
    I have a newbi question
I want to start recording nature sound and city sound and to have the stereo sound effect where the sound travel from one side to the other
do you think that the "Rode M5-MP Matched Pair Cardioid Condenser Microphones" with the Zoom H6 will be good for it?

Seems like the D100 picks up a better low range thans the H6, but the H6 sounds like it picks up more in the high range and sounds a little more crisp. Today I get the h5 in the mail. Finally upgrading a bit.

    Hello,
I want to start field recording. I watched your videos! Great guide! And there are some details that confuse me! I would be very happy if you could help.
First of all, I would like to talk about the equipment I am stuck with! The reason I'm stuck between these is the budget situation!
    1. Equipment
    Zoom H6
    Wsu-1 Deadcat
    2. Equipment
    Zoom F3
    Rode M5 (Stereo Recording)
    Rycote Bbg Wind Protection
I'm so undecided between these two devices! Zoom F3 is a very good device! But since I am a beginner, should I install such equipment at first? Or should I start with Equipment 1, the Zoom H6? Which would be more suitable for me!
Considering the price between the two pieces of equipment, which would be more suitable for a beginner?
I can say that I took my first step into this business by recording ocean waves and rain videos with my phone and recording the sounds with my phone! And I want to move towards professionalism in this field. First of all, I want to create videos on UA-cam, such as wave sounds and rain sounds! I even have videos that I have made and continue to make!
Which would be the best choice for me in this regard? I'm waiting for your help!
** Since English is not my native language, I prepared this text using Google Translate! I hope I was able to explain my request!

Hello, between those 2 recorders, i will go with the Zoom F3 and external microphones. Zoom f3 have better preamps than Zoom H6. If you are on a budged i will look at micbooster EM 272 mics with a zoom h1, you will be really happy with that setup as well. Hopefully that helps so you can start your new channel. Let me know when is up so i can subscribe and listen to your recordings as well. Thank you!

@@wpkambiancesoundsI actually have a channel that I started! I'll add the link here! For now, I recorded some of the recordings on my channel using my phone's own microphones! I also used the Boya by mm1 microphone for some of it.
After your advice, I did some more research!
It seems like I will have to import clippy microphones from abroad, which will be a bit costly. And later, with Zoom F3 and the equipment I will take with it, it seems like it will be a bit difficult on the budget!
Instead, I'm thinking of getting one of the Zoom H5 or Zoom H6 recorders because they have built-in microphones. The two xlr inputs on the H5 model will actually be enough for me, but the curved screen on the H6 model seems more attractive!
For starters, I'm thinking of choosing the H6 model and recording with its built-in xy microphones. Later, when I started earning income from my channel, I decided to gradually upgrade my equipment.
I may be thinking wrong. Do you think this choice would be right?

Потому посмотрел я обзоры, послушал разницу - и купил Tascam!
У Sony звук "как из под подушки" и врагам не пожелаешь, а Zoom кристально чистый, но более шумный и гораздо дороже.
Потому альтернативы Х6 или Х8 на сегодня наверное просто нет...
