Thank for this video. Rented one of these and after rental shop was closed spent an hr trying to start it. Watched your video and was up and compacting right away.
Thank you for the video. I want to rent one of these but I'm not in Seattle, so I may have to use Home Depot. I'm compacting the sand between an existing paver patio. My only concern with using this is that it may be tricky to maneuver without a reverse. I've got a number of new questions for Home Depot, so thanks again.
Ya, its funny, the reverse really makes a difference if your working in small areas as pulling a compactor that is weighted to crawl forward backwards over areas that are already compacted can be a real headache aside from issues of level compaction. Having used one with reverse and one without if you need to reverse, rent the right machine for the job ... good luck out there!
Honestly, we bought one of these 2.3 gallon units and suck it out the dipstick hole ... on all equipment ... which saves a lot of time and mess ... www.harborfreight.com/23-gallon-Manual-Fluid-Extractor-62643.html
Hi Robert, I am using this tool this coming weekend. How do I bring it to the work area? By a dolly? I work by myself so I don't think I can hand carry it.
got 2 of these with just a few missing parts and a little older for 20$ total. does anyone know the best place to buy parts for this compactor? gas tanks, exausts etc
loooooool compacting the ground every 30mm? Your kidding right? We do weeping tiles and go down 5ft usually so yea I think every 30mm would be stupid. If you do it every 2ft for a fair amount of time up and down 5 or so times then that's good enough. Also it doesn't hurt using this on clay on the top if you want too, clay that's damp or wet will settle.
Lol. Learned the truth of what your saying the hard way. Ever seen this unit? It does both around foundations. Thanks man. www.doosanportablepower.com/en/products/light-compaction/reversible-vibratory-plate-compactors/BXR-60H
6string , compacting 2 feet of material at a time? Not possible with this machine. Not possible with most plate compactors. You will compactor the top 2 inches and that is it, the rest will consolidate/ settle a bit, but surely not reach any measurable level of compaction. If you are compacting soil or crush and run like 21A, this compactor can compact 2" max at a time...in order to get a minimum compaction rate of 95% you need to also make sure the moisture content is correct and you would need to compact in multiple directions in multiple passes. I do hardscaping for a living and have had to have base work tested so I know pretty well.
@@beranbr Thanks for the information. I am doing a walk way this month using DG and VP 1340 plate compactor. Planning on compact 1st layer 2 inch , 2nd layer 2 inch then 3 layer is my finish grade 3.5 inch. Am I ok with my plan? Your input and advice greatly appreciate.

Might ... the speaker on our recorder wasn't so hot and doesn't pick up the purr well. Makes it sound chunky. Anyway, thanks man.
Great info. Thanks
Its all good...happy to help.
Whats the difference between vp1340
I rented this and it's not moving. I'm pulling this thing and it's not helping me at allll
Sorry but clay packs really good. I use it on baseball fields.

Sorry man, dont...
Ebay has some parts
That is clay with crushed red brick or sand mixed at various ratios. Pure clay is too slippery and dense - think pottery clay vs. what your using.
I turned it on and all but it won’t move
is it diesel engine or petrol engine?
which type of engine oil is used?
Petrol and around here it is always straight 30 weight.
Honda GX160 engine. Google for detailed info.
What's different between VP1550AW and WP1550aw?
As best I can tell 6 pounds of slightly different "new" design, about 3-400 more bucks ... but same specs .... anyone else ?
Robert Rhodes which one is new VP or WP?
I believe the WP ... ?
O got you sorry about that. I get what you are saying now
It’s not moving

6string, Im just going off the directions but I understand experience can dictate otherwise ... thanks for your input and feedback though.
Smaller packers will obviously pack less depth, there better for asphalt than packing dirt.
