I think this is supposed to mean that he is so scarred and traumatized, that he can’t see anything good in the world anymore, and even his favorite toy scares him, and he imagined it turned into a monster, just like he imagined his mother as a monster, he imagined that everyone and everything is a monster, because of what he went through
I'm kind of glad they didn't end up going with this, as it would've left the baby with no one to comfort him at all. Though I think the concept here could be used for a different game. Anyone else?
It really feels like it belongs in a different game, I feel like it has a completely different tone than the rest of the story. I really like the ending that they ended up using, so I’m also glad they didn’t go with this, but it’s pretty nice that they kept it in the museum :)
My one complaint about Among the Sleep has always been that I felt they could do more with the fact that you're a toddler. More focus on the toys, more creepy nursery rhymes, more things that would be really scary to a child turned legitimately monstrous (like the DLC scenario with the monster furnace). But in terms of telling a story about a child coping with his trauma from his mother's abuse and alcoholism, it definitely doesn't fit. Teddy betraying the child feels wrong too...in any other story it might work but in Among the Sleep, it doesn't feel like he would have any reason to, especially after he was put in the wash to supposedly be gotten out of the way of protecting the child. I would love to see more stories of very young children facing horrors like this, but for all its faults, Among the Sleep did its job well for what it was doing.
I agree! I believe the teddy bear was a form of his subconscious telling him what he needed to hear because he was so young. Since it’s basically just him creating all this stuff in his head, it wouldn’t make sense for him to betray himself.
Or.. hot take, Teddy was representing the dad and "light" , right? But we see that Dad hit mom at one point. So we know he isn't perfect either. What if this just shows that once the baby is alone with teddy (dad) that he reveals he is an even worse monster and was using the child as a way to get back at the mother, hence the "You did very well" .
@@JRMagro in this ending teddy is a creature called "the lord of nightmares" and nothing was symbolism. It was real. So they changed it for the game to be symbolic and for the whole thing to happen in the childs consiousness. The dad and the mom were arguing in the past and as we see from the dlc the kid was afraid of the dad during the sequence. However in the main game the kid portrays the dad as someone who was trying to help the mom, so its likely that the dad was nice most of the time but him and mom had a really big arguement which is what we see in the prologue.
From what I heard they did considered it before but decided not to because it’s too dark and not appropriate for the audience so they decided to make this as an alternative Easter egg for fun
OMG. That was terrifying. Definitely did not expect that. I found this by trying to look up if there was a second ending, and my idea (got it from a comment in another video) was that instead of putting the elephant into the memory machine thing and using Teddy's broken arm to push the button, you could have put Teddy's broken arm in the machine and used the elephant to push the button. But I was REALLY wrong. This ending is so scary 😱
@@JCS_ChanX. i think you talk about the mother of among sleep ending i don't get what you mean but what i concern you call this teddy bear "his" do demons has gender!?!
It would've been pretty interesting if they had used an alternate ending if you try to use the broken arm as a memory. The whole thing is about infant trauma, right? So maybe an alternate ending where you remember the ripped arm could've represented the damage done being truly irreparable. Would've been interesting
@@JCS_ChanX. It makes perfect sense. The teddy represents the father. It's clear as day. Whether the wife was drinking a lot and getting distant or not, we see clear as day in the winter house flashback, that the dad hit the mom. She ran with the baby. She then becomes an alcoholic or even more so, and abuses the baby turning into a monster. The baby views her leaving and abusing him as monsterish. But was too young when they were together to view the dad as a monster. The dad is a hero in baby's eyes but clearly has a dark side. That's why he's so suspicious majority of the game lol. But then when the dad finds out about the abuse, he takes the baby back. He wants revenge on the mom. He uses the baby as that revenge. That's why the bear says "you did well" . The baby was just a means to an end for the dad. Then the dad unveils he is truly a monster as well. I know that's long. But that's probably what that meant.
The ending may not have been used in the final game, but if they make a sequel to this game, this could be used in the beginning as a dream sequence cause it would establish David Phillips's personal struggle with dealing with paranoia, panic attacks, and heavy anxiety.
But, the Teddy we know is good while the other Teddy(The Nightmare) is bad. So, what if the sequel would be about David conquering his past by confronting the monsters? To be honest, I just wanna see a sequel to the game.
I know that. It's just that I just want an excuse for the sequel to be made. Also, the nightmare didn't eat the mother. He separated the child from her.
The interpretation I take from this ending, is that Teddy represents the baby's father cruelty. In the actual ending, we can see that the father takes him away from the mother, and the baby see him as a savior, due to the trauma from the mother's abuse and alcoholism. In fact, in the DLC we discover that the father abuses the woman (which could explain her alcoholism, as she tried to bear the abuse with alcohol); so this means that the poor child is not totally save at the end of the story. In this original ending, we can see that the teddy bear that the farher gifted to the baby was an intent to manipulate him, making him think that he will be nice and take care form him, but in the end, he will abuse him even worst than the mother did, destroying his good memories about her and finally "destroying him", his childhood, making his live a living hell.
the dlc doesn't show that at all though lol, the father is still mostly seen in a positive light and is portrayed as getting physical to protect the baby, not abuse him
@@paratrooper508that's not exactly true. It's left very vague whether or not the mom was the one causing it. That represents the baby growing up in an emotionally "cold" home. The only way to warm up and bring happiness into It's life is distractions such as toys and the TV. The night things get really physical, the baby gets out unnoticed and is found by the mother (who is probably drunk) in the cold far away from the home. She says "enough of this" pretty much and leaves with the baby. Which makes the dad seek revenge by taking the baby back. We see this clear as day by this ending. Teddy(dad) true form says "you did very well" implying the baby was merely a pawn in the dad's game.
My expectation of the game when playing it that the events of the game was the toddler's life flashing before his eyes while his drunk mother smothered him with a pillow screaming, "I won't let him take you!" right before she hangs herself. I found the actual ending a bit of a softball. This alternate ending is just bizarre though.
It makes sense teddy was the killer because before all of this scary stuff that happened, as soon as the baby got the teddy and when it came alive teddy just told the baby to go in the closet just to teleport to a scary dimension, because there’s no reason for the bear to ask the kid to go in the closet for no reason,
I’ve seen a few different interpretations of what this ending could mean I agree with the idea though, that this ending represents the dad not coming to help, and ultimately the baby finding themselves consumed by despair and fear that runs so deep, even the teddy bear that once gave him all the hope and courage in the world now feels like a monster, because the baby feels like they need to fear everyone and everything, that everything is out to get them and not even something they should be able to trust, like their mother or even their teddy bear is safe
In some ways, I'm thankful that this wasn't the ending. Though it makes me wonder how different the plot involving the mother's disappearance would have played out. @@doobel in the game I see teddy bear is so nice tho so I confused once I see this it's completely different cause from the story line I was predicting was
Her mom is often drunk so this baby is scared of her mom and that's why when her mom was angry she was hallucinate of having a journey to find his mother's memory and his father is actually the one who is good in this game and since that teddy was a gift from his father I thought that teddy was good but when I saw this my mind twisted :/
Teddy is good :) This is an ending the developers scrapped early in the development process, so it's not canon.
@@doobel oh ;-;
Maybe this would make more sense if there was a different story but this just does not fit with the plot.
Is the baby dead
I guess in this ending, the mother cooks the kid inside a pot.
It was the dad you imbec!l3
its not the mother, its literally a demon. That's the ending. Thats why it was scrapped.
Why did Teddy turn into a monster
As someone who still watches this I can tell you originally Teddy was at one point The King Of Nightmares and he would go after children after trauma occurred in their lives as the King entered the child’s life as a friendly bear then betrayed him and take all his memories and boils them in a soup then he adds the child and that happens too other kids as well
Can you imagine if this was the actual ending tho? That would’ve been so cool ;0;
Nah it would've ruined the overall theme tbh
ou fuck
**nosk intensifies**
I love my teddy but dont say that too my teddy i dont want my teddy move like killer..😯😯🙁😔
That's creepy.lol
I agree!
LOOK IT THE PART OF THE AMONG THE SLEEP DLS!!!! THE OWL!
Thank god they didn't go with this ending. It kinda ruins the theme of the game and wouldn't make much sense
And it would also be more disturbing that it already was.
@@kamleshmathur5331 what
@@The_Max1m I meant that it would surely be more scary.
@@kamleshmathur5331 scary? It was just silly and out of place. I can see why they took it out.
OMG THIS IS SO CREEpYYY
Thats why mom tie his arm part shes Save Mother what abt the ending the all thind was sunny and Kinda beautiful but We know she drink alcoholic when you taking the teddy From her Hand she slap u and say stay away from me she said she didn't meant that so u comfortable her shoulder then you know what she did And u go the exit door you see ur dad all light Y'know the part he said He will help the teddy arm Do u think he will come back? in part in ur mother bedroom u see theres closet You go through it you see a picture of Mother and father You see its cuted two alone the end of exit door and all light is probably still be bad Its good end But? The teddy if healed they would be died But idk how ?
I wonder what this ending is supposed to represent?
perhaps some adult taking advantage of the little kid, disguising themselves as the friendly teddy, or just the boogeyman
Nothing, because it was not canon. They didn't get far enough to even think about that because it didn't fit the story.
@@starlightfox1211 Nope, they said themselves that they scrapped this ending because it didn't fit the story. That means it can't be this because that's still sort of related to the story.
Does this mean in the real game he is still evil
Monster getting baby in a nutshell: out of ur mommy into my tummy
EVIL TEDDY!!! 🐻🐶
I don't even wanna know why this was the original idea the developers had. That's horrible.
Begone snowflake
Glad that they didnt go with this idea. Its not bad but it just doesnt fit the game, poor Teddy
Gawr gura's worst nightmare
How do I get to this???
You can find it in the museum! I think you get to the museum through the chapter select from the main menu :)
@@doobel ill have a look thank you for getting back to me iv only just bought this game and love it already, tomorrow will be my second run through 💗
It’s an awesome little horror game, I love it as well!
Got it 💜
Good to hear! 😊
Its actually the concept or original ending
It was the original ending, but it was scrapped because it didn't fit the story.
Hwo did you get the secret ending
It is in the game's museum. You can see how to get it in this video: ua-cam.com/video/VsLvfXwh9kA/v-deo.html
