Still believe Texas would have beat Michigan if they got passed Washington. Michigan wasn't running for 300 against Texas. Would have been really interesting.
'past' , not passed. Two different words.
Texas' pass defense wasn't nearly as bad as it seemed. They were so dominant in stopping the run, teams would have to give up on it completely and air it out. Passing yards is a counting stat and Texas was simply a victim of quantity. Their 3rd down defense was 2nd in the country and their red zone defense was 8th. As for Washington, they had 3 future NFL WRs and Penix didn't miss a throw the entire game.
Texas also had A LOT of thrown attempts because running was damn near impossible. They could have been better but that's a major component as well.
Texas was the 3rd most passed against team in the entire country. With that considered, they were like 33rd in pass defensive efficiency. Certainly the overall yards given up was not good, but overall efficiency shows they weren't terrible at all against the pass in relativity, but in absolute, they gave up a lot. That being said, with a big increase in secondary talent from last year to this year, and an even bigger increase with pass rush talent, those two should combined for a much improved defense assuming the IDL doesnt have a huge drop off. I'm a believer that they wont as they brought in a lot of size and experienced from the portal but we'll see. I think WR and the offense will be just fine....even more lethal than last year, but again we need to see it.
If I was betting, I’d take the under. They COULD beat UGA in Austin. If so, they may go undefeated. And no, they ain’t losing to A&M.
I think this whole season will come down to how much Ewers has improved over the last 2 years. I’m not super high on him as he has durability issues and seems to fold and make bad decision unless everything is going right.
That tight rope analogy was legit
The fact Coach Choice didn't make the graphic is a...well Choice! What he has done with our running back room is nothing short of incredible. Great content otherwise as always!
Texas was also thrown against the 3rd most in the nation last year, so yes they weren't amazing but also that's the only thing teams could do against them. If you watch the Sugar bowl highlights, the coverage wasn't even bad...penix was just throwing NFL dimes all over the field that you can't do much against. Would better edge players like we have this year have made the difference? Probably.. Also Tashard Choice, Chris Jackson, Johnny Nansen, and don't forget Scottie Hazelton are all awesome coaches so I feel as if you guys are undervaluing the support staff tremdously.
Also to add on, majority of the time Texas was up big on opponents and couldn’t run the ball against T Sweat and Murphy the only option teams had were to throw a million times
Won’t need to be throwing the ball when you can’t stop the run
@@timekeepermedia5142 guess what?
that’s not changing in the SEC. so they should get used to that
obviously it’ll be more balanced in rushing and passing attacks
@@GoatedAtNFS What Penix did in that Sugar Bowl was something only a handful of college QBs can put together. The line play and rotational depth overall in the SEC is way scarier than the QBs..
We are stacked at receiver spot. The country about to find out who Ryan Wingo is, trust me.
Josh be smarter, our pass defense on a yards per play basis was much better (though not great, not terrible). Opponents couldnt run and so they threw it a ton. skews total stats
National guys usually miss the details. Not their fault but every fan base knows it. Texas is not worried about the WR corp. It might be better than last year.
The pass def stats is skewed because teams wouldn’t dare run on them so they’ll just end up throwing. Like another commentator said in the playoffs the coverage was actually good but Penix was on fire throwing to 3 great receivers
Exactly people don’t acknowledge the fact that we had a young secondary with a former walk on. Watts couldn’t stay healthy and Brooks has lapses in coverage. We forced teams to be 1 dimensional against us most the time abandoning the run game
Naw man we were just bad in the passing game. We were bad all year. Heck pass defense hasn’t been that great since Earl Thomas days. A lot of it hid behind a good pass rush but it had been exposed before. Then Washington shut down our pass rush and exploited us
This Texas Michigan Game is gonna be one for the books, I'm calling it now. A defensive showdown is on the horizon
10-2 is the worst it should get no KIZZZYYYYYY
Josh nailed it when talking about level of play and focus in the Big 12 vs Sec… I hope he never gets a job at ESPN because he’s so much better than that. I wonder does this prediction change given the news that Baxter is out for the year?
As a Texas fan, I'm waiting to see if the secondary has improved. It was last years team's Achilles heel. In the spring game, it still looked suspect.
I’ll say this. Texas szn comes down to 5 games in which they have to go at least 3-2. Those games are Michigan, OU, Uga, Arkansas, and A&M.they have to win at least 3 of those games. I think Texas will go 4-1 only losing to either OU or UGA.
I believe Texas will go 10-2 or 11-1. And at the bare minimum make it to the sec championship game, and final four of the cfp
as a Texas fan i am far more worried about the A&M game than i am about the OU game for the sole reason that OU beat Texas last year and in that game Texas messed around to much and came out flat i would be shocked if that happens again this year. compared a A&M team this will have around half a million people in and around aggie land which will be the most hostile environment/game next year outside of maby Michigan vs Ohio state
@@caydenruzickaOU also messed around and left points off the board that game my dude. All that matters is who came out on top
@@ExcaliberHDthe difference is that ou played their best game and texas didnt. that was the deciding factor.
Spot on. Everyone overlooks Arkansas. Very old very heated rivalry from the '60's. It'll be a ball game.
Flood is most definitely the OC. Of course Sark is gonna make the final call.
He's not the OC. He's paid as the OC and helps Sark gameplan and even collaborates in-game play calls on comms, but Sark always chooses the plays and often comes up with the choice himself. Sark is definitely the OC.
I was hoping u would go game by game
10-2 or 11-1. No excuse not to lose more than two games this season.
Especially when considering how soft their conference schedule is.
@@clee4619yeah they lucky they don’t have to play the real ut
@@wingstop7021
Let's not start with that 🙄
@@clee4619 What happened to the, "The SEC is the best (toughest) conference in the land?" How can their schedule be soft when it's the best conference? Rhetorical question, because we all know and even SEC diehards understand that the SEC is top heavy and the bottom half isn't that great compared to other P4 conferences.
@@masterjedifunkolobstah4836I disagree. The SEC offers the toughest in conference games. Texas’s schedule is an anomaly. The play 5 of the worst SEC teams from last year.
Ever stop to wonder why there are 6 SEC teams in the coaches poll in the top 12? There are 9 teams in the top 20. B1G comes in 2nd with 6 teams overall in the top 25. I guess the coaches don’t know anything and you the random guy on the internet knows better..
They better take advantage of this years schedule because it's worse next year @ Ohio State, Georgia, Florida, and OU all away games ending with A&M at home.
0U is always on a neutral field (Cotton Bowl)
Vandy being left off the odds to win 2024 SEC championship table is hilarious
Cakewalk intro to the SEC, while Mich sucks in comparison too. Absolutely sad it worked out so well for them, and the media will eat it up and make millions off Texas being "good" even as they trounce the bottom half of our conference.
Do you mean to suggest to us that the SEC is a stronger conference than the old BigXII?
You don't say.
What Oklahoma and Texas is about to find out is how much more competitive it is in SEC..Trap games in SEC is different! They both a couple on their schedule.
🥱
English is a stunted language in the SEC.
C'mon man. Half the SEC teams couldn't beat 90% of the B12 teams. The top 4-5 SEC teams are legit, the rest....not so much
Adding street pizza to my vocabulary with immediate effect
Texas will lose 1 rivalry game and prob GA
-Die hard texas fan
Ou ark and aggy...no way we win all 3. Guessing we lose at aggieland
I think Texas loses 2 games! 🌰🏈
Try 3 games at best
We can go 1-11 as long as that one win is against OU.
@@rodneyginokc the likeliest is aggies, and its not because I dont think Texas cant beat them, theyre certainly the better team, but it's because I think Texas may only have one loss and is getting into the playoffs regardless at that point near the end of the season, and ags possibly are playing for a playoff spot (unlikely). Even if they arent playing for a playoff spot, Texas may not be fully ready to scrap for their lives as they are already getting an invite to the CFPs. Theyre not losing to OU again this year, I can promise you that. And they cant beat Arkansas with their 3rd string QB, thats certainly not a loss.
My guess is either 10-2 or 9-3. @ Michigan and Georgia are tossups then two rivalries with one on the road that hasn’t been played in 13 years and another that has been a single possession game 9 out of the last 10 years. so those are coin flips. Then everything else should be a W but of course there’s the chance of an upset and the occasional slip up/ scare.
Thanks for writing the closest thing I’ve seen yet to what I was thinking to myself.
It’s going to be interesting to see how they do !

I'll be there in Michigan! Goo Horns
The run defense won't be an issue. They still have some dudes in the middle of the defense...
3:40 I watched moneyball for the first time last night haha great reference and great movie
Dog weak schedule might as well go ahead and write them in bubba ✍️
12-0 you heard it from me
Lol keep sleeping on Oklahoma. Venables is building something really special. Ewers struggled against Wyoming and Houston last year and Oklahoma, for the first time in forever, is better on defense than offense this year. Oklahoma will beat texas....again for their 18th win over the longhorns in 26 games
I agree that Oklahoma shouldn't be slept on, and Venables is a fantastic coach. Totally probable/even likely that Texas will struggle against them. But Texas beat Wyoming 31-10 and Ewers threw 2 TDs and 0 INTs. And while Texas barely got by Houston, Ewers completed almost 80% of his passes and again threw for 2 TDs and 0 INTs in that game. Is that elite level play? Absolutely not. But he didn't "struggle" against those teams either. He might against an SEC schedule, but that's pure conjecture at this point.
15-0 🤘
I would love to see that happen honestly
This season is going to be great to watch. 9 wins in our first season in the SEC IS A WIN! Ill take 9 dubs and a resume that gets us a playoff birth. Im not as concerned about who we beat as much as i am HOW we beat them. Im fine with sec growing pains and a few lumps during the season. id rather be the team that lost a few games while growing into the team NOBODY wants to play come playoff time.
One of the easiest schedules in the sec they better win 9 the way they’re talked about not to mention the way they talk
It seems like Quinn Ewers has been the QB at Texas for several years now.
He sure has the maturity of one. Then the guy sitting on deck sure looks great!
😂😂😂😂😂
Texas will beat the Aggies by 10. Bookmark it!
9-3. Losses to Michigan. Georgia. Texas A&M. Texas is good but consistency is key for Texas to be successful this year. They’ve had too many close games under Sark. Can’t do that in the SEC

Horns fan here saying the secondary is swiss cheese, wanted to see improvement in Spring gm and it was porous 😬
Yeah man that’s going to be tough with the fantastic receivers in the SEC. I’ve often wondered do you UT fans think Ewers is the man? Or are y’all already looking toward the young manning? Here at OU we were okay with DG leaving and are extremely confident in the jackson Arnold era. Just curious as to what UT fanbase thinks
@@CiviTac respect for saying UT and not some retarded shit lmao :) but to your point, QB1 is QB1. simply enough you have to earn it right? Ewers is the best we got (with experience) so why shouldn't he start over guys that have never played snaps in real games lol
@@CiviTacTexas is super confident in arch. That’s why they’re no worried if Quinn loses his spot
Never base an upcoming season on a spring game.
@@CiviTac I'm good w Ewers until he gets hurt ( happens w him ) then go to Manning 😎
I'm thinking Texas stumbles at Michigan by looking ahead to that second, and third week in October. At that point either O.U. or Georgia "Get Lucky" (As they'll claim in Austin) , which leaves "Them Horns ripe for the pickin" in the eyes of A&M. (Which is no more or less then what they deserve). 9-3 🦆🦆🦆
Looking ahead, in Week 2, to Week 6&7? 🤣
@@Mark-zx2bqForgive him Oregon fans aren't the smartest bunch.😂😂
Everyone is overestimating texas. First sec year they’re going 9-3 or 10-2
Then aren’t you overestimating them as well since most analysts have them 10-2 as well? 2-3 losses among the OU, Michigan, UGA, or Aggie games is pretty good for their first year …
9-3
9-3, come back to this comment
They did get a cake sec schedule. Look at florida, sheesh
They didn't ask for that schedule that's what the SEC gave them. And what the heck are you talking about anyway A&M has been in that conference for almost 12 years and they've never played Georgia or a couple of other teams.
@@rolandmiller5456 they played in 2019. But thats the only time. My point is simple, compared to florida, texas got a pretty easy schedule. I just think the sec could have balanced it better.
Yea except in two seasons from now those are flipped and youre talking about how easy Florida's schedule is and how crazy difficult Texas's schedule is.
10-2 only losses to georgia and oklahoma🤝
8-4 Ls to UM UGA 0u and drumroll… A&M
Texas is going to Texas. They’ll lose to Oklahoma, Georgia, and Texas A&M.
Smh! Georgia I'll take the L but not with anyone else 😂
Josh: Washington was a damn good football team despite the fact a whole lot of people disparaged them.
More so than that, Penix had the game of his life. He was on fire hitting dimes...he couldn't hit the broad side of a barn in the natty....and I dont want to hear the defense was way better when he had plenty of time and was missing wide open WR's. There was a break down done and Texas played closer coverage per pass against Washington than Michigan did. The difference was Michigan didnt fumble possessions away, and Michigan committed to the run. Texas was running 7 YPC, there was no reason Sark needed to air it out like he did. Just keep running all over them and control the ball... Texas was the better team and lost that game. They still almost pulled it out and Washington couldnt have played better and still barely won.
Texas should be able to go 9-3 at worst
Texas might be a little overrated the secondary has to get better and the recruiting has be deeper Texas should be able to have 5 star recruits at every position.
You have no idea what you're talking about....
There are only 32 five-stars given out, and several of those are given to QBs. You're silly
You do realize they basically have 5* recruits at every position right?
3 losses: OU, UGA, TAMU.
Elko is not that guy.
Nor is venables
Theyre not losing to OU again this year I can guarantee that. UGA is a push. TAMU has a chance if Texas already has a spot locked up in the SEC championship and a CFP spot. Then I can see them puling one out possibly
I’m an ou alum but Texas has to win now. They need no more than 2 losses. Their schedule is setup well, coaching staff and roster has all the pieces to make a run. I think they beat TAMU, lose to UGA and OUTX is always a toss up so who knows
My five worry games are.....
1. OU
2. Georgia
3. TAMU
4. Florida
5. Kentucky
Sorry, Michigan.
New staff and personnel.
Early in season and I like our chances.

1 year of relevance and ppl think Texas is back 😂Texas will choke up like they always do and not make the playoffs I have them going 9-3
At 9-3 they are very likely in the playoffs. Four if the top seven games in ticket demand include Texas.
Lifetime Longhorn fan and alumn here. I hate saying it, but Ewers is going to take a step backwards this year. The preseason Heisman talk for him is off base. He underthrows / floats balls, throws behind receivers, throws to positions that bring the defender into the play, and hesitates too much when deciding to tuck and run. He has significant fundamental flaws. The SEC defenses are going to pressure him more, pick him off more, and sack him more. 9-3 record, with a loss to UGA and two more to some mix of Michigan, OU, A&M, FL.
Fla ? Nah man. Texas will probably lose to Jawja and A&M. I wanna say Michigan but they are falling apart as we speak. HOOK EM
Why is Arch Manning a back up to him.?
@@howl_with_the_wolves I don’t think he should be. But I’m in the minority.
@@randybobandy9061 I wouldn’t be so sure. We’ve quickly forgotten that TX struggled heavily with teams like Houston, TCU, and Kansas State (at home) last year. Teams like FL and KY are not going to be automatic Ws.

only team we are losing to is georgia in october. which is fine considering we are going to play georgia again in the sec title game and maybe again in the playoffs
Tired of hearing about Texas honestly😂😂😂
Prove it season for DB coaches Terry Joseph and Blake Gideon
The 3 point win @TCU, the 3 point win against K-state, the 6 point win @houston… sec middle of the pack is not tcu or Houston. Come out flat in the sec and you lose. 8-4 L’s UGA, A&M, Oklahoma, either Kentucky or Michigan
Yeah they don’t know what’s hitting them. Every sec team except Vanderbilt some years has a way to beat you if you don’t show up.
I don’t have an excuse for the way we played against Houston. Kstate was a top 25 team at the time and it was only the 2nd start for Murphy. TCU was Ewers first game back from injury and if you watched the game he shouldn’t have played. He was still showing signs of pain in his throwing motion. Y’all ignore the fact that Texas closed the regular season and conference championship with a margin of 106-28.

One of the worse things in the world is to have to live by hope. Sad.
Texas will have a solid first year in the SEC. They’ll finish 8-4/9-3 with losses coming from a combination of Michigan, Georgia, Oklahoma and Texas A&M. Very respectable first year in a conference like the SEC with their weak schedule.
UTa is just glad they dont have to play against Houston again.
They should go 12-0
Imo. Texas has a higher ceiling and lower floor than last year. Last year there was no chance they would lose multiple regular season games. They played their worst sometimes and still won. This year has holes that can swallow them down to 8-4. But if everything clicks, this team can be much better than last year they can win it all

You have failed, missarable in your predictions in the last past years. Texas sucked in the Big 12. What makes you think they will be successful in the SEC? Texas Long Dead Cows are the most overrated program in the nation. They are a shame to Texas football.
As a TCU fan you should really sit the hell down and shut your mouth. Your only big 12 title came when there wasn’t even a conference title game being played. Y’all were absolutely embarrassed in your only national championship game since 1938. Y’all are the embarrassment to Texas football.

I hope you're not an aggie fan saying that. 🤣🤣🤣 fucking yell leader or whatever they are called. Don't get me started on the aggressive just leave it at that.
I think Texas is overrated and was last year too. Who did they beat other than Alabama? Let's talk about that. Alabama when Texas played them was NOT an elite team. Think that sounds crazy? USF could've beaten them the next week. People responded to me saying this earlier with 'Well, Bama didn't start Milroe! That's why USF was close!' - That proves my entire point. Milroe was NOT playing QB well the first half of the season. I'd say he didn't really start playing well until the very end of the year and he still had issues. He lined up against Texas and tried to just run and Texas's elite d-line shut him down and that was the game. All he had was a deep ball. Texas sat 2 deep safeties, Milroe had no mid/short passing game, and that was the end of it. Alabama was NOT elite last year. They grew throughout the season. But, they were also loaded with freshmen playing. Texas beat no one else all year. That game alone gave them their identity and it was a lie. Look at their rankings last year in statistics. The only good unit that they had statistically was their run defense and it was 70% their defensive line and they're gone. I think Texas will be a 3 loss team this year. BOOKMARK THIS.
The thing y’all don’t acknowledge is that was no fall of between the starters and the backups last season. Those back ups are now starters. And that opens up for our linebackers to show out more without those 2 massive guys last year. Our problem last year was we forced teams to go one dimensional and abandon the run game to pass against a young secondary
@@daltonpalmer3897 But, the SEC is a line of scrimmage league. The Big 12 was nothing like this. If you don't have the dominant front, you lose the game. Teams will just roll up with 4 and 5 star o-lines and big backs and run down hill at you. Even the mid tier teams can do it. It's a different animal. You'll see what I'm saying about 5 weeks into the schedule when half the starters are beat up and you're trying to rest players during 'easier games' and those easier games are teams like Auburn or MS State. It's no joke.
@@jasonbugs2877 both our O and D lines torched bama’s all game so i dont understand what your point is. Sark has built out both fronts for the SEC, and at the end of the year we were manhandling the teams in our conference not just winning games. We will be fine
@@Stunsify Bama couldn't even push USF around up front. They were not a great team and were over ranked early in the season. Bama was a completely different team at the end of the year than they were the first half of it. That's my entire point. They were not an elite team and it's the only win Texas had to hang its hat on. Mark this post at the end of this season. I spent 16 years playing the game. I know an elite team when I see it and Texas had 1 elite unit and that was their defensive line. (Couple of the WR's were really good too) They're all gone. Texas will win some games this year. But, I have betting lines on them at 9-3.
