    I have the same exact boat! Have two issues. First issue is it leans to starboard, was wondering if you experience the same. Second the the aluminum corner caps at the stern push the water into the boat. Had to grind them flush with side of hull… so that’s fixed but wish it didn’t lean.

    • @TheFishingEducator
      @TheFishingEducator  4 місяці тому +1

      Very cool! Yes, mine leans as well. I think it is because the driver and batteries are all on the same side thus creating a weight distribution issue. And yes, my corners pull in H20 as well. I might have to take a look at grinding them flush. Still love my boat after all these years...I keep it in the garage and it has given me little to know issues. :)

      This is an older boat....I'd recommend to start simple...be sure battery is good, check the bulbs, sandpaper the contacts from corrosion, check the wires. All the best!

    How does the Honda Pilot Handle the Boat? I have a 2012 Ford edge which i think is a little smaller than your Pilot but similarly powered and was thinking about getting a boat about the size of what you have. ohh and have you ever taken your boat out to sea? Thanks.

    • @TheFishingEducator
      @TheFishingEducator  5 років тому

      The Honda Pilot has done really well. However, I lost a lot of power going through the mountains from not changing the spark plugs and it struggled. Once I changed those at 120K the engine power was restored and she did great. I have not taken the boat out to sea, but it has been on Lake Michigan. My rule on Lake Michigan is...if white caps are visible, stay home. Hope this helps!

    One thing I might add, always do a compression check on the motor no matter how new it is.

      There is the same year/model on boat trader right now for $3000 asking price. It needs a motor. You could pick up a newer used Honda 40 or 50 for 4-5 thousand . You can buy new battery for $80.00 then 6 life vests for $180.00 and a new trolling motor for $200.00 Total spent $8460.00 but wait talk the guy down to 2k and get an older Honda 40 or 50 like in this video looks like an 2004 model worth 3k max and now your at $5460.00.

    What if it's your first boat and you know nothing of boats. Not using it to fish yet but just to enjoy the water and scenes. Any suggestions?

    • @pedrobrando4606
      @pedrobrando4606 4 роки тому +7

      A 14ft riveted jon boat or v-hull with a 8hp to 15hp outboard is as simple as it gets and will allow 90% of the nations waterways to be enjoyed alone or with a partner.It will be best to use ethanol free gasoline and Sta-bil fuel stabilizer.You might find out why later.
      The Great lakes,offshore fishing or lower Mississippi river requires experience and expensive boats. It would be best to use a charter service for the hard core boating and fishing until you learn the ropes.

    This was more of a walk through. Nice boat and I'm glad you're happy with it, but you did not give any real insight into how not to get ripped off. Seems to me you don't have the mechanical knowledge to give advice as your title suggests

  • @storypunman

    Put a Weedless Wedge 2 prop on that Minnkota, you will get more thrust at lower speeds and your deep cycle battery will last longer. You can keep the power prop as a spare.

    • @TheFishingEducator
      @TheFishingEducator  5 років тому

      Very interesting...I might have to try that!

    • @storypunman
      @storypunman 5 років тому

      Minnkota at one point would sell many of these motors with the weedless wedge 2, but now seems like they want customers to spend the extra money to up grade to them. I fish a lot of weedy areas and this prop is better, but also seems to give more thrust so I run it at slower speeds. Good luck in the 2019 season.

    • @Brady.John87
      @Brady.John87 5 років тому +1

      Agreed!! They used to be called the Roland Martin weedless prop. He invented it years ago working with Minnkota but his patent just recently ran out so they've changed the name.

    You don’t do your own maintenance on the boat or trailer?? Like the wheel bearings you were talking about. I do all my own on my boat.

    • @thecosmicsnail
      @thecosmicsnail 5 років тому +4

      Sometimes families have other maintenance issues that don't include boats. respect those that love what you love. Boating, fishing, and nature. Some of us try to find the balance but are not small motor mechanics or expert fishermen or have the time. Myself, I have two boats right now. He is helpful, don't be a hater.
