Pine Ridge High School, Pine Ridge Reservation SD
A documentary short about the struggles being faced by Lakota youth living in Pine Ridge South Dakota. The video centers on a set of interviews with youth and adult leaders that are working hard to bring positive change to those living on the Pine Ridge Reservation. Produced by the students of Pine Ridge High School © 2011.
My prayers are that our young people learn to appreciate being an individual, be proud of who you are. Be proud of where you come from. Native people will always survive, its our strength. My prayer is for young people to understand how perfect the creator made each one. Confidence building is a must in the 21st century.
If I could give everyone at Pine Ridge a hug I would. One thing I want to say to the young people is to NEVER give up. YOU are our tomorrow. YOU decide the future. All of the Lakota are strong, far stronger than so many people that I know where I am from. You have within you the tools that you need to build your tomorrow, use them. I pray for all of you daily, that you will overcome your struggles and have the faith and hope to make it. Much love and respect to you all :)
Hi. This is to the students and others in the video.Its good you made this. Its good to have your voice be heard in your own words spoken to whoever watches this. I think that it will help to connect caring peoples hearts to your plight and give people the opportunity to love you and care for you even if they are not there to help. The young people on the rez deserve to have their stories told. Indian rezervations are nations within a nation. If the people who live in the rez dont share their stories the US will never know what is going on. So please make more videos. Involve the community make bloggs, connect them together. And get people in your community involved. And invite loving caring people from outside to help too. The kids deserve to let their voices be heard. The dead cant speak...only the living can. I hope the kids will find hope and something to live for.
Much love and respect from Bonnie Scotland 🏴 💙 ✊ 🙏 ✨
I am of Taino extraction (first peoples of the Caribbean), and It is imperative for all of us to support and understand each of our struggles.
be proud of who you are, always hold your head high. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
real change is coming children thank you for sharing your hopes dreams and fears together we shall see a new future from my heart to yours
It's not just my first nation relations that are being affected, it's kids world wide being affected..
I cannot wait for civilisation as we know it today to come undone, and we go back to living as our forefathers once did..
POWER TO THE PEOPLE!!!!!
Hoka Hey!!
I don't think the bad road travelled should be called 'the black road', it should be called 'the white road'.
My heart goes out to you. Realize you already have your power. Life is what one perceives it to be. Please be strong.
Thank you for sharing your hearts... my heart sings a sad song but also a prayer for parents out there to reach out to their children, leave the alcohol alone and spend the time with the children sharing the teaching the traditions, the ways of the red road. Each of you young people in this video are brave and strong to pour your hearts out in such a way, hoping to reach out to others and help them, remind them, encourage them.
I pray that all of you reach out to your own traditions for healing and guidance. Creator loves all of you! There are elders and teachers out there, find them, listen to them, go take in the Inipi ceremonies, or the sundances or the tipi meetings or whatever prayer ceremonies your clans hold most dear to their hearts. That is my prayer. Mitakuye Oyasin.
Thank you for sharing these stories. The same oppression is in my community. We are all dealing with the same issues.
08:54 That is a warning I would heed. Young people, be with your elders in ceremony and preserve your heritage. I will hold good thoughts for your improved future.
Thanks and appreciation for those who participated in this video,
i just pray that this continues in all native american tribes------that self esteem , purpose of ones life, the reason i,you are here breathing air is to help those who need it and of course you start with ones self.
---------pride in your tribal identity ---i know most euro whites respect native americans and desire to know more.

You young, have a lot to learn! You have to listen to your elders, see what a great culture you have in your blood.I also have a lot to learn! I have to live in two worlds too. Why you may ask? Because I grew up in a Christian country, I do love Jesus but, I live in a different way. I live in my heart in spirituality, I live with Shamanism, in my heart! You can teach the world, If you want to! You have to be proud of your self! I believe in YOU I will pray for you all, when I do the drumming

Much love I heard you from Oakridge oregon I found your heritage in the Book of Mormon and went to make it right for you yesterday I am so sorry it took so long its only the book of Mormon though the Hopi were waiting for the Cornerstone to return and I have been on a journey since I met a Lahkota Elder and we bonded over his craft of making bows and arrows and he gave me some stones to learn flint knapping and the next day I saw a Hawk with a broken wing on the fence of the Church I was born into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints I had my friend stop and I ran back but it was gone and I never saw it fly away so I knew I had something to do The More-men of Jesus Christ were Native American go read the Book of Mormon it is part of your Heritage Many Great Spirits have been waiting and that dark Spirit will find his home somewhere else but the rest is doctrine of man I am very sad to know that the doctrine of man held down a whole nation much love brothers and sisters we are all born knowing God our Father and Creator in Heaven of all things Good and The Word of God will guide you but the lusts of the world drag us down we can ask Jesus Christ to forgive our sins and he will heal us all if we just ask and seek baptism by water.
That Lahkota Native lives in West Fir Oregon right by Oakridge I put him in my heart that day and Love him for showing me the truth thank you brother remember just the Book of Mormon Now I have a more clear message for that Church
Keep finding something to fight for;
I hear. Keep hope, push to make it happen for the many forgotten nations. I have heard your schools try to get your ways out of you. Set up an after school about just your ways, for the young.
The Wasi'chu needs to give their land back with plentiful tatanka to thrive and live as their fathers and thier fathers did...
Very sad, I hope these kids can get some help.
4:46
This right here. This is what needs to change. And only the Elders can change this. They have to take the lead and talk first. It's ironic, but true: the Elders are the future for these kids. Not the other way around. Be something worth emulating. And stop lecturing.
awsome!
If you want to help these wonderful people go to Heatherswritting. Com or go to amazon. Com and purchase unspeakable things the proceeds go to the rs!

Go talk to your counsellors at school and tell them everything. Tell on your parents; tell your counsellors that your parents are drunks and that you want to leave the Rez;
Not that simple my friend
Future drunks? Or college graduates. Only time will tell.
Go 2 school
Really? Solves aĺl?
