- On this week's episode, former PGA Tour pro and broadcasting legend, Gary McCord joins former PGA Tour pro Colt Knost and his close friend and on course rival Drew Stoltz for an exclusive, in-studio interview. The longtime CBS broadcaster shares stories on everything from working with David Feherty to the behind the scenes creation of the classic film Tin Cup.
I could listen to Gary tell stories all day. Loved the tin cup and tiger bits. What a great personality.
I have watched this 3 times now, this is classic.

Gary McCord and David Feherty are, by far, THE BEST in golf announcing ever. Some network needs to throw them a couple million a year each.
Gary you are a very good man to fast for two days, most people can’t fast for two hours. It’s a physical sacrifice of food but it’s also a spiritual strengthening when you fast. God bless Gary.

Absolutely love the podcast the only thing keeping me from listening more is I drive a truck for work and yawls volume is low in my earbuds crank it up boys cheers!

Cannot express my outrage at CBS for pulling McCord and Kostis from golf.
Wholeheartedly agree. Loved them both, learned a lot from those two, and I miss McCord's humor.
CBS had the best sportscasters. It has been downhill since they canned Simms for Romo. They lost Faherty and Oosterhaus and now McCord and Kostis. CBS is hoping Romo will fill in the void.
McCord is washed up. He hijacked broadcasts for the last few years. He used to be great, but he lost it and I cringed every time he talked. Kostis I agree, surprised they let him go.

I agree. Beside having funny observations GM was one of TV golfs smartest analyst. PK was the "every-man" golf pro. Put money into production CBS. Letting these 2 go is not going help your stale broadcasts. Study what NBC does with golf and try to do 30% of it to start with or cut ties with golf and concentrate on football. That's where you spend all your money anyhow!

Hey Gar.....my house needs painting. It's two blocks from the Pacific Ocean in Half Moon Bay. The job pays $15.00 per hour plus room and board. As a bonus, since it's you, you will get weekends off and can sit and watch the PGA Tour on the 90" big screen with me. I'll turn the sound off and you can do the commentary. The wife is a hell of a cook and the guest room is fit for a king. If you get a better offer, go ahead and accept it but if you don't, the job is yours.

Gary hit it on the head. CBS’s golf broadcast is like eating cheap vanilla ice cream with nonfat CoolWhip and stale vanilla wafer crumbles. It’s a colorless, bland snorefest.
My Dad used to turn on golf at 2pm, lie down, and ask me who won 3 hours later.
Every tournament on the PGA Tour you need to hit perfect shots on every hole in all 4 rounds.

oh its pretty well known. Course was dried out and hard in 94, Gary said the 17th green was so fast it seemed to be bikini waxed, and anyone who missed long was going to find body bags behind the green. And that was that - the men in green jackets made a phone call, no more Gary at Augusta.

Yo Podcast team. Been listening to a lot of these the last couple days. Theres a real successful podcast Joe Rogan that you guys need to copy his formula. He has full length podcast like this one. Don't give a summary or clipbaity title. The guest speaks for him or herself just put the name in the title. Then, have a second channel that feeds your main channel called clips. Take short clips from the interview where you can write a longer descriptive title. That channel basically only exists to warp the algorithm to bring your content in front of people more. People see the clip cuz its easier to trend and then find the full podcast from it. Probably the 2nd channel is a growing step, but its such a good formula he uses. Keep up the great content tho you guys are really doing work with the list of guests your getting

McCord has not been on the Masters broadcast since 1994. I agree that the CBS golf broadcast misses him a great deal since they booted him last year. He informed and entertained.
Steve Abbott - Yeah, watching the Masters is like watching a church service with Jim Nance preaching the gospel of Augusta.

I've been trying to find out the answer to this question for a while, and can't seem to get an answer, so seeing as though this is a "broadcaster" episode, what better place .....
Who is the TV broadcaster/commentator who does the voice-over from the studio, between when the other commentators like Faldo and Immelman are taking a break? Often either side of add breaks or just commentating on the leaderboard. He never seems to make the camera, but we get his voice a lot of the time.
McCord is fasting for36 hrs and the dude on the left is sneaking chips into his gob, can't go an hour 😅

What is with CBS and all the Euros? I feel like I'm watching a minor european event every weekend. Then there's nantz, a graduate of the Dick Enberg school of useless information. Do we really care how the nephew of Jack's gardner aligns his sock drawer? Glad to hear Feherty on NBC and really dont mind the others. All the comments about the guy in grey constantly "on", listen to the Feherty's Dan Patrick's old interview about enjoying the "white noise" nobody does anymore. Let the drama take over.
Watching 3 years later Colt has lost a lot of weight walking for CBS. The course they play for the Honda is brutal when there's wind. If your driver is out of wack, forget it. It's taken an additional 3 years, but we've identified Fleetwood is not a good putter comparatively speaking. Zinger in his own world.

in his defence zinger played when the pga tour was still dominent. its not anymore so maybe zinger forgot that for a second . i really like him in the booth. still miss johnny but zinger is a good replacement

These tales from Gary sound like tales. It’s funny to me how we all have a different sense of what we think is funny. The only thing that was funny was how the guy in the gray thought he always had something smart to say.

What idiot decided that a bland golfer with almost no broadcasting experience could replace the irreplaceable McCord? I don't dislike Trevor Immelman as a golfer, but he added literally nothing interesting or exciting to the Master's - he simply doesn't have the personality to be a 'color' commentator. Guys like McCord are rare gems, and I hate that CBS didn't give him another year to say farewell to the fans and his friends on the team.
Tommy Fleetwood definitely heard it ... he looks over at his caddy and chuckles after the shot ... he just expects shit from idiots ... so why complain about it ..

McCord sold out Phil for gambling with him during events, it was harmless $20 bets once a day and he just threw Phil undr bus, probabl;y part of reason Phil left for Phil, PGA was probably going to suspend Phil for this before he left, McCord, as JT and Terrell Owens would say, "loves me some me"
