You know what's scary? The government uses MS Windows, MS Office, and OneDrive. All those names, addresses, birth dates, Soc Sec Numbers, all going to Microsoft Servers.
My wife still runs office, and she always stares at my Linux laptop she let me install on her three year old laptop running office libre. Her employer cries foul if they use office libre cause there snobs and make a big deal about it, yet the employers IT run linux in networks yet the office computers are lamedows
"Connected Experiences" sounds like a buzz-phrase created by evil marketeers to try to spin something that is bad for the customer into something that sounds lovely for them - but were it ever otherwise the case with Microsoft?
When will people realise ffs that their entire computing experience is being coerced into being online only.....making an internet connection mandatory to use your computer at all. This downgrades everyone's computer, whatever it is (phone, laptop, desktop, tablet etc) to nothing more than a terminal. Personally, I see zero benefit for me to have all my data from calendar to accounts in an external server that can ONLY be accessed online. It's dangerous, let alone inconvenient. Just imagine the power over your life this gives to whoever has their finger on the power button. This applies equally to linux, mac, android etc etc. Please explain the benefit we gain.....regardless of whether its ms or otherwise...😮
PC used to mean "PERSONAL computer", not anymore. That ended with w$XP (for the w$ ecosystem, no info on Mac ecosystem) nowadays the developers make software as if its for thin clients.... all need to be connected to be "useful"
I agree but have you seen how your choices are diminishing rapidly. I just tried to find desktop software to make an inventory database and carry out basic invoicing for my small business. There's little to nothing that doesn't use 'cloud' service or SaaS and that's even under linux !!
I read as far as "Do you trust Microsoft" and was able to give a definite NO! without reading the rest. As for Office, I have seen numerous PC's now syncing to the cloud using One Drive because Office is logged in with a 365 account. Thanks for asking Microsoft.
What? These connected experiences are not good for me? But but but...Ed Bott told me told me they are fantastic connected experiences. Ed Bott can't be wrong. His 5 year old articles with 5 year old comments have stood the test of time!
And just realise folks from the uk..... Our NHS uses microsoft exclusively in hospitals, gp's, dentists etc Processing our most private data....my god, people need to wake up ffs..😢😮
I am hallucinating a dystopian Microsoft experience whereas everything is transacted on a Microsoft thin client Styx box within the Microsoft Hades vapor cloud Delphi experience. Charon greets me with crypto tokens and my data is pawned to the highest paying government data broker surveillance contractor in some subbasement data fusion center.
The problem with toggling the button off is that you really don't know if that button actually turns it off. You really don't know as you don't have the access to the code as it is not open source. smh.
