I add Americolor Super Black to chocolate icing. It's just American Buttercream, but I thinned it out enough so it could easily flow through the small icing tips!
So once again I find something useful from your video that I can then apply to painting. I can't tell you how many times I have miss judged the size of the letters when painting words. Printing out the words and putting them on the canvas or item I'm painting before hand seems like such a DUH now, but It never occurred to me.
It would since that sets hard when you put it in the fridge! You can only do this on an icing that is solid when cold so you won't damage it as you trace the letters.
Hmmmm, I'm not sure how to do this without a computer as you need to print it out to trace it. If you have your iPhone hooked up to a printer, that may work!
This technique won't work on whipped icing, only on an icing that will solidify in the fridge. I never work with whipped icing because it can't handle a lot of the decorating I do. So, unfortunately, I don't have the solution for this. Sorry about that!
Yes! But I would most likely do a pattern transfer if the board isn't covered with fondant. Here's an old video showing how: ua-cam.com/video/zlxC1WDPBNk/v-deo.html
I would trace the lettering onto the cake with the dresden tool tracing the paper. Then, when I'm writing with the icing, I would start on the right side and work my way left. So the top line, I would do eht, semitemoS ("Sometimes the" backwards, starting with the E at the end of THE, and ending with the S that starts Sometimes). That way you're not going to smear the icing!
I didn't film the actual writing on this particular one. But this video shows me writing on the side of a cake. It's the same technique! ua-cam.com/users/shortsC2kBhaTUTxw
Just wanted to let you know, today is day 2 since you psoted this, and i was trying to see your replies from questions i was going to ask myself. But your replies CANNOT be seen on any of the comments you replied. Unsure if anyone else has this issue right now? 🤷♀️
Looks so easy when you do it 👍🏻😊

You're welcome honey! 💜
Wow thank you !
Brilliant tip. Thank you ❤
I'm so glad you found it helpful! 🙏
Are you using black buttercream for the writing? If so, how do you make it black? Thanks!
Many have success with black cocoa.
Start with Chocolate Buttercream and add Black gel color. You'll need less color and it'll be a deeper Black.
I add Americolor Super Black to chocolate icing.
It's just American Buttercream, but I thinned it out enough so it could easily flow through the small icing tips!
Lovely job as always Karolyn. I wish I was a proficient on the computer.
Thank you!

Yesssss!! This is what I hope people get from my videos. You can take the techniques and apply them to whatever you do! So glad it was helpful 😊
Thank you for sharing this. Would it work on swiss meringue butter cream?
It would since that sets hard when you put it in the fridge! You can only do this on an icing that is solid when cold so you won't damage it as you trace the letters.
❤!
Thankyou so much for this. Do you think this is possible using an I phone? As I don’t have a computer
Thankyou ❤

What can I do for whipped icing?

Trace, cut, and smooth I’ve about mastered. I’m so far away from having this skill down 😑
Thanks for another great tutorial
You're welcome honey!
Would this work on the cakeboard itself? If someone wants writing in buttercream on the cakeboard?
Yes! But I would most likely do a pattern transfer if the board isn't covered with fondant. Here's an old video showing how:

@KarolynsKakes ah ok! I've seen that one perfect! Thank you for your awesomeness! ♥️♥️♥️
any tips for a left-handed writer?? ive never been able to write on cakes 😞

Beautiful… when YOU do it! Do you turn the cake on its side???
Nope! I show how in the short video linked in the description. It’s not hard!
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I’m not convinced to be able to make it on buttercream iced cake
I do this on buttercream cakes all the time! The icing must be solid (cold from the fridge) in order to do this.
I thought u we’re writing on the side of the cake - your demo shows top of cake
I didn't film the actual writing on this particular one. But this video shows me writing on the side of a cake. It's the same technique!

That's so weird, must be a glitch!
I just went to my video on the YT app and saw all the replies I posted.
It's one thing to pipe on the top of a cake. On the side it is much harder.
It definitely is! But this technique makes it easier 😊
