Thank you for this video Laura! fun game: translating children's books from your native language into your target language. plenty of practice sentences with common words and easy sentence structures that help you identify the gaps.
Not always good, for ex. in Italian children's books are written in a past tense that isnt' used that often...and kids language is sometimes quite different than adult...
I know that what i'm gonna say it's not relevant with your video (at the point point) but, I was asked once who is my favourite inspirational UA-camr and I answered that it's you. I can't be more happier and genuinely interested in improving my speaking skills. I remember when we had a video call on Instagram, I asked you some tips to improve my american accent and sort of speaking more fluently. I think it hasn't been more than 2 months and i'm really making so much progress! I can't believe it! I have already started not overthinking about my words and I think that is going really well, because i sort naturally speaking better and i'm more confident with my accent, especially when it comes to speaking english (as I would speak to myself) in front of other people. I think that, speaking to myself had helped so much, i can't put in words. I found some templates that have questions that they can be answered and i'm trying to answer them all correctly and analysing. Of course, UA-cam has helped so much improving my general skills and using more "native" phrases and phrases verbs than I would learn in a textbook at my language school. To make a long story short, thank you so much for inspiring and helping people improve their speaking skills in a foreign language by sharing this video. I hope that your new start (creating lessons and all these stuff) will be helpful to willing english learners. Always loving youu❤
The best part about even knowing a little of a foreign language as a tourist is that local people go out of their way to help you because you are trying to communicate in their tongue. Even if you say something grammatically incorrect or simply run out of vocabulary to finish a sentence you get rewarded for at least trying.

This is an excellent video, Laura. Personally, I always find it impressive when non-native speakers make the effort to learn a foreign language and even pursue education in it-- like yourself. The advice about confidence really demonstrates the link between Linguistics and Psychology. I have a long way to go in terms of building confidence, as I still succumb to mental blocks about speaking German. In fact, I can read German quite well, and can write at least a few paragraphs in the language. But the major issue is not having enough vocabulary, so your advice about saying something in a simple fashion really resonated with me. Thanks very much!
I'm so happy this resonated with you! I know what you mean - I feel like that with French all the time. The thing to remind ourselves of is that it is literally not that big a deal haha
The benefit of speaking is that it will help you to remember your vocabulary and grammar. When speaking, try to use different vocabulary and grammatical structures. Try to say something else other than "It was good" when asked about your day, your weekend, your vacation, the movie you saw, and so on.
Wow what a helpful video! Thank you for sharing so many great tips and helping us language learners develop a positive mindset to enjoy the learning process! Best wishes from Boston, US.
I speak, write, understand and can translate 5 languages. I am completely self taught. You will never learn a new language unless you truly want to. You have to really want it. You must read, write, speak, challenge yourself, watch films, music, DAILY. The more you stop the more you will likely fail/forget what you have learned. Laura I am so proud of you keep up the good work. Love your videos
What I do is all the things that I can do to learn and pick up my English skills, and it's been working so far. Unfortunately, I don't have a speaking partner most of the time, especially on this quarantine, so I'm used to practicing my speaking skills on my own.

Heya! I am a Canadian that it is learning Spanish and this video reassured me that I am not on the wrong path - I talk to myself as well haha - I think it is easily overlooked that speaking to yourself is a great way to practice. It can often be stressful when talking to a native speaker. so if the basics are all down, plus certain topics + answers are in place it is much easier to start a conversation with someone and get some good practice in. Great videos!
One way to learn Spanish is through music, but I don't recommend you listen to music like reggaeton, because the lyrics are said fast, which makes it hard to understand. If you´re a beginner, I'd recommend slower music like ballads or pop songs. These songs are much easier to understand and are beautiful as well.

Oh my God, I learned English in only this video and also I stayed fall in love looking your beautiful blue eyes... I have a dream to become fluent and I hope one day to reach this goal.
Hello, I'd love to know more about your personal journey on exactly what you did rather than what we should do. I hope you'll make a video on that. You have some very true points there though. Thanks
I love languages too. I just believe the ways we are tought to learn languages are rubbish. I studied english for 9 years at school finishing at A-Levels grade. Afterwards I went to Britain for the first time in 2005 and i hardly could say anyhing. I then started to learn English by myself MY WAY! 6 weeks later I thought in English and so I was fluent. I've never ever since thought in my native language what to say or how do i say it in English in advance, like so many do who haven''t started to think in that foreign language already. 90% of all the words i used then i learned within those 6 weeks because i only learned what i wanted to learn because i liked it. that is a REAL difference to learning vocabulary because of any other reason, like they make you to do it, e.g. in school The game changer was the inner attitude, interest and the focus on what interested me the most of what i heard people say. Focusing only on that really fasten the process. Since the words and phrases we actually use in daily live are limited so it only does take so and so much time. Today i believe, that the only thing that is needed doing to acquire a language is either hearing or reading it. So there isn't much else to say. Maybe one thing: If you start to think about the language, how does it work grammarly? what does it mean in my native language? etc., like probably most do, you lose, like in any other area of life. It is the same when it comes to music, when i play my instrument and i just play without thinking i come up with some real new ideas. Or when being spontaneously talking to foreign people and especially when dating. people aren't so rational as we believe. doin't think to much unless all you want to do is thinking. :-)
Hey! I just wanted to say that I really love your channel and that this kind of videos helps me (and I think all of us are gonna agree) a lot! When I watch you're videos I always think "damn, this polish girl has a perfect american accent" and, as you mentioned in this video, some people try to approach that "skill". So, if you can make a video about that, it would help me (us) tremendously!!! I wanna sound like a native when I speak English (and other languages), but it's hard for me, so I thought that someone who didn't born with that accent but acquired it perfectly could be very helpful! Thank you so much for everything!
Hi! I have a new digital course that is all about developing an American accent in English. I also have a new UA-cam video on practicing any accent in any language, I hope it will help you!
while watching i pause the video, i subscribed your channel and i watched fully You are really kinda sweet thanks for sharing wonderful tips ! I felt very happy and comfortable at the same time Thanks a ton :)
Can you make a separate video consisted completely of your laughs?)) You have such an engoyable, soft and sincere laughter, gee, I'd love to hear more of it!
French is my native language but I still have language blocks in it since I spent my elementary school years from kindergarten to grade 6 in francophone schools and then in middle school and high school from grade 7 to grade 12 I was put in English speaking schools so I feel like I’m missing some knowledge on certain things still so don’t worry if you think that native speakers are perfect in their own language because I’m not and I’m still learning
The biggest problem for me is i can't hear the native speaker clearly so that I fear to talk with others.would you mind making a video about how to improve listening skill?
Ask them to speak slower for your benefit. Usually, they will be sympathetic. Also, look up resources where native speakers speak slowly. For German, Deutsche Welle have a resource called „Langsame Nachrichten“ in which the news is read slowly in German.
Hi! Start from listening to things that are adjusted to your current level and work your way up to next levels :) I have a Module on improving your listening skills in my course. The link is in the description if you'd like to check it out ♡
Hi! I'm a native English speaker, who's focusing on learning spanish rn but taking it bits by bits on my own time for French (my dream is to learn 25 languages) . I'm confident in translating what I know for spanish, I'm just scared of speaking with native Spanish speakers and it's hard because I don't have any fluent spanish speakers my age that lives by me. They were all born in America so they're trying to learn Spanish too :)
Learning Polish can be a reason to be proud :) It is a beautiful but difficult language. If someone learns Polish, they can easily learn any other language, and certainly Slavic languages, e.g. Czech, Slovak, Russian etc. Laura, you must have a bigger brain or more neurons to learn other languages so easily? :)
Thank you! I compare myself a lot to other language learners. Like when my friend who's learning Russian like I am texts me in Russian and I can't fully translate the sentence, I can just make out some words like "music" and "shoe". Same thing when I see someone post a pic with like a german caption on facebook and I can't translate it on my own. But I am working on accepting the fact that people are not the same and that people learn at different paces. And I also feel motivated to learn more when I chat with like a fillipino person and use some of their phrases like "Kamusta ka na?" "Ano ba?" and they are like wow. Even though I just know basis stuff.
Welcome everyone. Where is everyone from? And what is your native language? USA, English. I'm currently learning French and have tried to learn Russian

The first comment, Thanks Laura ♡ I'm learning English and you always encourage me

The thing to remind ourselves of is that it is literally not that big a deal haha
i speak arabic and english and i have been learning french for 10 years but i still feel stuck at the same level so i am trying your videos❤️❤️
Góðan daginn! Ég heiti Jeffrey. Ég er frá Québec. Ég er að læra íslensku! Takk og bless! :)
The benefit of speaking is that it will help you to remember your vocabulary and grammar. When speaking, try to use different vocabulary and grammatical structures. Try to say something else other than "It was good" when asked about your day, your weekend, your vacation, the movie you saw, and so on.
Hello I'm learning English and I'm practicing with your videos my listening skill :D it's so motivated that I undertand more and more
Wow what a helpful video! Thank you for sharing so many great tips and helping us language learners develop a positive mindset to enjoy the learning process! Best wishes from Boston, US.
You're so welcome, Emily! ❤
I really appreciate your videos. You are a great person.... keep up the good deeds
Your accent is fantastic!!!
woohoo all of my years speaking English paid off 💜

What I do is all the things that I can do to learn and pick up my English skills, and it's been working so far. Unfortunately, I don't have a speaking partner most of the time, especially on this quarantine, so I'm used to practicing my speaking skills on my own.
Hi Michael! There are apps on which you can find online language exchange partners. Try Tandem or Italki 😊

Prima, du kannst schaffen
This video is really nice. I can buil my confidence when I have seen the video from you.

You are not alone by taking to yourself haha I do the same with the languages I speak :D nice to see there is more of us xx
Haha it's true we all laugh at ourselves when we learn. Am also learning Spanish.
Hi, you might find this list of songs in Spanish useful if you'd like to learn this beautiful language through music. Most of them are slow so they're easier to understand.I included various genres, as you'll notice :)
Hope you'll like them!

Hi Laura! Thank you so much for this video. I'm a native speaker of both English and Bulgarian and am also conversant in French (can also speak basic Spanish). Right now I'm trying to learn Afrikaans as I'll be spending time in South Africa next year and just really wanted to be able to converse in it. In the future I'd love to learn Hebrew and/or Portuguese. This video has given me some great tips!

Hello, I'd love to know more about your personal journey on exactly what you did rather than what we should do. I hope you'll make a video on that. You have some very true points there though. Thanks

Yay! ❤️

90% of all the words i used then i learned within those 6 weeks because i only learned what i wanted to learn because i liked it. that is a REAL difference to learning vocabulary because of any other reason, like they make you to do it, e.g. in school
The game changer was the inner attitude, interest and the focus on what interested me the most of what i heard people say.
You giving very nice tips dear
I think you're pretty good at languages learning and I love you smile ..I really do ..
ok creep

My God, so many truths in this video. Loved it.
Great to hear that! Good luck, Jaime!
merci beaucoup pour une video fantastique !
Hello Laura, I am learning French. These tips will really help me. Which is your native language?
She's native language is Polish
Pimsleur/Michel Thomas + Assimil +Assimil B2-C or Glossika
Great video ! I love it .
Thank you!
