I'm here to speak up because I've seen inequity in hiring. I and 40 other white men were told we couldn't get a job specifically because we were white men. The out of shape black lady was pushed on through. Can you please help me out?
For someone with a RWBY avatar you don't sound very accepting. Of course, nobody is obligated to respect people and be a decent person, but like, don't get mad if that blows back on you.
What a bunch of BS. "privately recommending a collegue with traditionally marginalised identity for promotion"????? This is the qualification for promotion - having a "marginalised identity"??? Of course I am all for support and equality in a work place of everyone including people who experience identity crisis, deviations or are handicapped in any other way, but stop with the unsensible promotion of these as special values
They didn't say equality. They said equity. That's why you're talking past them and they'll never listen to you. You're right of course, and my boss in particular didn't know there was a difference between the two, but there is
This sounds like inverted rascism. We need diversity to develop altruism, not all the same. Why are humans always trying to control everything and everyone? The way to solve problems of hatred and prejudice are to practice kindness and unconditional love. We don't need an entire cult movement, we just need to improve ourselves by embracing forgiveness and unconditional love, first towards ourselves and then towards others. It's personal work that is different for everyone, due to the individuals level of trauma and sufferring. Stopping abuse starts with recognizing it, but then forgiving it. Diversity is the key to evolution and we need to allow ourselves and others to express authentically and genuinely. It is simple, not complicated, but there is a lot of work involved. Things like allyship are barriers to authentic communications and prevent true love and altruism from developing because it isn't natural. This video specificalky tells you to go against your intuition "even if it feels uncomfortable". Those are the words of abusers. Come on, folks! If it feels uncomfortable, it is probably wrong!! Love is all you need!
While I agree with the idea of allyship, I think your organization takes it in the wrong way. Everyone and I mean everyone gets interrupted or outshined in their own ways. This idea that only white men can succeed in business is extremely inaccurate. While yes, statistics show that majority of white men own most businesses it isn’t because of race or sexual orientation; it because the law of large numbers. Mostly men have been the bread winners for most of the time at least when we talk about American culture. With this we have seen the rise and fall of some great ideas and some absolutely horrible ideas. This the same when a smaller population comes in but worse. Due to the law of large numbers many of the mistakes of these smaller groups get emphasized while their better ideas get de-emphasized. It isn’t because of racism it’s because the laws of natural trends. Take opportunity for example; in business there’s usually a small window of opportunity a given person has to make an impact, but many times the best ideas can get outshined by less lucrative ideas. Thus working against certain groups; it’s the same for cultural statistics. Many times the window of opportunity is extremely small and you have to be at the right place at the right time. When this doesn’t happen you kinda of only have two options; wallow in victimhood or say screw that I’m not gonna let this world screw me over and then continue to build your own empire. It’s not easy, but nothing worth having ever is.
and why exactly is it that men have been the breadwinners for most of the time...? Because a lot of other people from other groups have been pushed down in preference of somebody else what are the "laws of natural trends"? I don't see how "the window of opportunity is extremely small and you have to be at the right place at the right time" logically leads to 'dont wallow in victimhood, go build your own empire'. You've basically described how the system has prevented anybody it didn't want, save for a few, excel, and then reached the conclusion that it's everybody else's fault for suffering! "it's not easy" -- but it's a lot easier for some groups of people, as you described! so, it actually can be easy, we're just not letting it be so. there is a third option other than 'wallow in victimhood' or 'build an empire': change the system and make it better.
For all the allies out there, please, please, please, keep posting what you're doing. For example, the EEOC says this specifically on their site: "It is illegal for an employer to publish a job advertisement that shows a preference for or discourages someone from applying for a job because of his or her race, color, religion, sex (including gender identity, sexual orientation, and pregnancy), national origin, age (40 or older), disability or genetic information." There is similar verbiage for many other aspects of employment law. Keep up the posts, so the rest of us know who to sue when your allyship practices invariably lead to violations of US law.
I feel like allyship is just another in the long, sad line of corporate, big business buzzwords that are just BS. All it really is, is just a fancy was of yet again saying "Can't we all just get along?"
"Support and Advocate for people of less privilege;" what does that even mean? Every individual at times is in a situation of less privilege. Perhaps, the messaging should focus on being accepting, being aware of situations, making all feel considered. Video's that call out specific instances create a stigma and actually engender less critical thinking and more divisiveness. This doesn't appear to be the goal of allyship.

You cannot compel someone to speak or think the way you want them to.

It sounds a bit like "comrade" -- no?

Good luck with that? Lol.

I disagree. It's insidious. Unlike plain old BS.
