Nobody has asked why it has taken so long to start the work. It is though Eurostar moving out caught them by surprise. They say that Waterloo is busy but they thought the top priority would be turn the platforms into a theatre for 'The Railway Children'. Whoever was responsible for this should have been sacked. The builders should have been on the job the day after Eurostar moved out. It will be eleven years when it finally opens!
I believe the plans weren't actually set in stone for many years - after the international station closed, any ideas to redevelop it were just proposals. in fact the main proposal at the time was to allow southern services into the platforms.
ASHFORD Eurostar, the upstairs room, once you clear security, is so nice with lots of space. The lift up to security, with Euro Disney design inside. Aladdin and Jasmine, on Aladdin's carpet
That's one reason, as the tracks the Eurostar used to run on were very busy and it caused delays, but the main reason was that it was a really slow line, you'd be chugging around south London and Kent for over an hour
Yes - and that's the reason it needed it's own 'dedicated' High Speed Line. Now it only shares with Javelin trains.....and not the 18:06 from Orpington.
This legendary train means so much to me💙💛 Never got to experience it at Waterloo, but I definitely have gotten used to it at St P. Always remember to get a snack from M&S before you board😎 Cant go anywhere at the moment tho as i was supposed to next month, but we all know why🤷🏽♂️😔
Well made video I enjoyed this. Waterloo was where I first went from to Brussels It was great for people coming into the country for the first time seeing all the buildings but St Pancras is so much better. You are at the Chunnel in far less time now.
Why would they? The Waterloo Eurostar was slower and less reliable because those tracks are so busy, you'd spend aaaaaages chugging around to get to the tunnel
the goobye ceremonies would be considered 'cringe' or wouldnt even fit in to beitish society these days in London. how sad. but ey, et least i got to see this stunning transition captired by you. its really a time I feel nostalgia for. yet never lived througu it myself
Today, the old Eurostar platforms at waterloo are abandoned, used as a stage for the Railway children. The move to St P, Ashford has only 4 to 5 stopping Eurostars.
Because the line to Waterloo is slow and congested, the line to St Pancras is a high speed line which isn't as busy. Before HS1, the Eurostar spent an age chugging around, snaking its way through south London and Kent. I understand nostalgia, but the St Pancras Eurostar is just objectively better in every way
They used to, in order to serve Waterloo International. Once High Speed 1 was opened all the way to St Pancras, the shoes were removed and the 750V DC power equipment was isolated. The new Velaro sets do not have 750V DC power capability.
Funny thing actually their were originally plans to run a third of eurostar's services from Waterloo and the rest from St Prancras but it was deemed to expensive.
xm3 C'mon, man... I've never been to Waterloo, but in 🎞️ I saw I think it is great, commuter services and a cool station entering from the tracks with a dome... But well, this is a free-opinion comment I guess
This is one of the best edited videos I have ever seen, legitimately powerful. The music is mixed impeccably
St Pancras has changed mightily since my last visit in 1979
best comment 😂😂
oh i thought you gave a sarcastic 'slightly' that would have been funny

Ah, "The Hours" by Glass....great choice of music!
Yeah fits the video well, think it would fit anything actually

@@bakedbeanishdragon well now, the odd southeastern service stops there but apart from that its most reading and windsor services

I've taken the euro star from London St Pancras to Paris Gare du Nord. Racing through Ashford on Highspeed one
They changed to St Pancras to avoid traffic as the old lines used to go through UK stations.
That's one reason, as the tracks the Eurostar used to run on were very busy and it caused delays, but the main reason was that it was a really slow line, you'd be chugging around south London and Kent for over an hour

I am gonna miss the eurostar in the station 😢😢😢😢
Waterloo international meant so much for me thank you for this video💖💕🙏

Taken the Waterloo to Paris Eurostar, DC 3rd rail/over head cable through Ashford with Pantograph, early HS1

3:07 last eurostar leaves waterloo
10 years today!
You think: what if they kept the Eurostar at Waterloo?
Answer: bad
Why would they? The Waterloo Eurostar was slower and less reliable because those tracks are so busy, you'd spend aaaaaages chugging around to get to the tunnel

Sayonara Waterloo International
Welcome back to service St Pancras

South Western Railway now uses those platforms.
Today, the old Eurostar platforms at waterloo are abandoned, used as a stage for the Railway children. The move to St P, Ashford has only 4 to 5 stopping Eurostars.
Thankfully, albeit long overdue, the former International terminal at Waterloo has been brought back into use for domestic trains
Beautiful
It's better off as St Pancras
Yes as they don't have to go through national rail stations
6:42 St Pancras station
A number of those units have been scrapped.
Geoffrey Lee luckily they're keeping quite a few for Brussels services, refreshed/refurbished :)
Phew,I Thought They Were Gone For Good.
2 even got abandoned
They got renumbered as well as 374s I think
low cost service buy the refurbished rolling stock
Waterloo international is coming back in 2019
f1reboy 232 but will it still go to st pancras
f1reboy 232 it December 2018
F1re boy it is for the south western railway services
They initially considered retaining some Eurostar services at Waterloo, before deciding that the cost wasn't worth it.
I don't really see why they would, it's a slower and less reliable line (because it's very congested) and the St Pancras Eurostar is just better
R.I.P Waterloo and euro star
Maybe not this year #SaveEurostar
2:07 what is the name of the piece they'were playing?
Rest in peace Waterloo internation
L
If it wasn't for the eurostar coming to St Pancras the new platforms for Thameslink trains would be St Pancras Thameslink.
no shit...
So that is where all that ticket money goes... Party's
Waterloo international is coming back in 2019:)
f1reboy 232 waterloo international platforms are reopening December 2018 for south western railway trains
I Don’t Think Anybody Can Confirm That,The Only Date Confirmed is December 2018
Why can't all the trains from France terminate at Waterloo again?
I guess because the High Speed line goes to Euston. There was never a High Spped line to Waterloo
Why would you want that, they were lile snails before
Because it takes too long to go through all those stations to get to Waterloo
Because the line to Waterloo is slow and congested, the line to St Pancras is a high speed line which isn't as busy. Before HS1, the Eurostar spent an age chugging around, snaking its way through south London and Kent. I understand nostalgia, but the St Pancras Eurostar is just objectively better in every way
They could have just have 2 lines going to St Pancras and Waterloo
Apple Fanatic 2019 IKR
That's what I said in a comment! Glad I'm not the only one
Why?
Why? Who wants a high speed train slowly making it's way to london😂
There's literally no point, the St Pancras is objectively better in every possible way
Don’t tell me Eurostar’s use 3rd rail
They used to, in order to serve Waterloo International. Once High Speed 1 was opened all the way to St Pancras, the shoes were removed and the 750V DC power equipment was isolated. The new Velaro sets do not have 750V DC power capability.
David Wood I think they only isolated the 3rd rail from the drivers. The equipment is still there.
They used to.
They're dual voltage.
Much prefer Waterloo than st pancreas
St Pancras is a much nicer station imo
Me too, but I’d prefer a new Eurostar service going to Waterloo & St. Pancras, I mean, use both stations instead of one or the other...
Funny thing actually their were originally plans to run a third of eurostar's services from Waterloo and the rest from St Prancras but it was deemed to expensive.
GUYS ST PANCRAS WAS A HIGH SPEED LINE WATERLOO WAS TERRIBLE!!
