The car industry is screwed, certainly in Europe.
this has been on the cards for a long time, the land is too valuable, they already have a plant making vehicles, and a car maker that owns various marques will build where it gets the best subsidies and tax breaks, the French have supported their car makers far more than the UK over the years.
Threatening car manufacturers with heavy fines for Not selling more electric vehicles than petrol and diesel is hardly an incentive to invest in Britain.
It's incredibly sad even though it was expected. The current financial climate (especially since the budget) has also resulted in the closure of many motorcycle dealers recently - some of who have been established for many years. The government also recently rejected plans for nationwide access in bus lanes for motorcyclists, citing that they have "no plans to increase motorcycle usage". It's a very strange philosophy given the value of this mode of transport for sustainability. I just dont get it.
Here across the pond in the US, I do not understand the European obsession with net zero emissions, including EV mandates. This violates basic concepts of common sense. For people who want to drive an EV, that’s fine. They are impractical for many people for numerous reasons. The government cannot force people to buy something they don’t want.

Blades also made on the Isle of Wight for the last 20+ years, not a single wind turbine there, never has been.
Wind has a low energy density and is erratically intermittent. Wind power is centuries out of date. Wind farms only exist due to massive taxpayer funded subsidies. They make no economic sense. They are a colossal waste of taxpayers money and resources (including coal, oil, copper and rare earth metals) in addition to being a blight on the landscape. Governments should stop wasting taxpayers money and resources on this nonsense.
It’s been like that for a few weeks now , even when the wind did pick up for 2 days , it was too windy and they had to be turned off again 😂
They probably ran out of diesel... =D
Also, the last coal fired power station in Britain (Radcliffe-0n-Soar) has just been shut down because of supposed 'climate change'. Madness, there's no other word for it.
SIGN THE PETITION FOR PR.(ON GOV SITE).
I did
All that does is get it spoke about in parliament. They will just laugh it off just like they did to sunaks black hole warning
@@matthewbaker2573
There is a committee inside Parliament looking into this,so not a complete waste of time.
@@davidbarlow350 like I said. They will talk about it. That's it.
They will then just laugh it off.
One can only hope people actually start looking into party policies properly instead of being die hard supports. But I highly doubt that will ever happen because we are not taught about politics in school
of your link I've signed it just this second💯👊🇬🇧💪
I despair, they dragged that plant back to life building Renault Masters when I went to Luton everyday, now this disgusting government has killed it completely. They probably want it for housing and Hotels next to Luton Airport.
flats and a mosque
EV's are a dead duck.
As is the uk economy!
They are a lifestyle choice that suits some people ? They are not a replacement for Petrol and Diesel ? Probably never will be ?
@@gefparx6442They are not eco either though. The mines use child slave labour, the water pollution, toxic chemicals from tyres without the increased risk of fire that can’t be extinguished normally and which pump out so much toxic crap into the air that the firefighters need full breathing gear, increasing amount of car parks and ferries refusing access etc. And no matter what they do, none of this will stop the climate changing.
A Norwegian Blue Parrot of a government
EVs are the future, ICE cannot give 10-15 years warranty.
Investing in ideology at the expense of a sustainable economy. Idiot government.
Guess people should not of voted for the ‘Sunlit Uplands ‘ of Brexit , our trade and economy would be in far better shape.
It’s going to be like old East Germany. The only car available was a Trabant.
Weve had an electric car for 3 years dont ,stick with your petrol or Diesel motors trust me if you only drive round local to you no worries but long distance green cars are crap, you have to know where certain charger ports are on your journey or your screwed and if you think driving a normal car is stressful then an electric car , absolute nightmare!!!
Son hit with a new set of types at 13k !! yep imagine that, very environmentally friendly.l
@@andrearoyd2942 heavy cars I guess, thats not many miles for a new set. My hybrid is not light though, just had new tyres all round and they are not cheap.
Tesla ?
Does your EV not show you where the chargers are located? Any Tesla tells the driver where the chargers are and how long they will have to spend at each one. Let's not scaremonger over non-issues.
And I've got 2 ev's and have no issues, save absolute loads of money on fuel.
Governments have the gall to fine manufactures because the public can't afford or want to buy an ev. Same with air source heat pumps and gas boilers.
This is what they want .
..... depreciation in value of electric car is mind blowing. Factor that into running costs as well as cost of battery.
They want us totally reliant on electric with the new Government GB energy holding the Keys you wait for energy costs to be state controlled costs will double to fill there Black holes in finance.
Depreciation is massive but there's no cheap, used EVs for let's say 3K.
1100 jobs - gone.
another 5000 with companies supplying parts and ancillaries. like a stone in a pond it ripples out
Along with Port Talbot steelmakers
Along with the business rates, tax income, vat on the vans, national insurance, while there will be another 11000 on benefits...joke!
Jlr pulling out of UK next
I bet it's considerably more than when you add in sub contractors, suppliers and local businesses.
Why force manufacturers to make vehicles nobody, apart from wealthy people who never leave London, wants to buy?
Stamer 'I will grow the economy' yeah right talks shite every time he opens his mouth
The only economy he is going to grow is his own.
We all lie in job interviews 🤷♂️

At least they will be unaware of the s@it show of a one term Marxist-Labour government. Wish we could fast forward to 2029.
Why the hell anybody lives in London these days or is at the very least not trying to find a way to get out is beyond me.
I got out 14yrs ago, so glad because it's a total sh6t hole now.
Slim who says they do ?
I think most that could get out did, during or shortly after COVID,it's just the people left who are stuck for what ever reason.i got out in 2013 and it was bad enough then
@@adidasmanuk I know most are stuck in the UK and will never be able to move, But you can structure your life with that as a goal.
It took me at least 15 years of hard work and getting all my ducks in a row to be able to get out. five years before I left I was paying zero income tax ( I had to pay VAT on the goods I brought ) which by leaving I now don't pay that now.
There are very few countries that you can have it all, but depending what type of person you are and what life style you want some countries suit you better than others for me the UK does nothing for me, I'm proud to be a Brit but I just don't like the place so only go is I have too. I have been back once in the past 5 years just for a week and that was enough.
Over 19 million people didn't bother to vote at the last election.
How is the non compliance working out?
Best thing for the environment is to keep your old car going for as long as you can your doing massive environmental damage buying a new EV
Electric cars are ridiculous.Everyone should leave uk
. Getting mad 😢
Thanks to labour more people out of work because of net zero how many more jobs are going to be lost
They dont care so long as they have their cushy jobs as MPs. Nice heated homes etc.
Net zero employment
Why would you want an electric car when we are paying the highest prices for electricity in the world, despite not having the highest wages 🤷
Starmer AKA The Grim Reaper
And his mate Don Quiote with his windmills .
Don't worry, Labour have said they'll fix the unemployment problem and train young people.
And the band played believe it if you like!
Net zero no matter the costs. Net zero employment
Indeed, they don't care about the impacts and one thing is for sure : they won't go back, no matter the consequences (which will be huge, no question about that)
Dale Vince saying the other day that the wind is always blowing somewhere in uk. Well it wasn't a few weeks ago when for days we were under a blocking high and our over 11000 turbines were giving us 3% of our electricity
The recent snow covered the neighbours solar panels completely.
It doesn't matter, we're saving the planet, what could be more important?
I'm joking, lest you wonder!
GB Energy is under Ed Milliweed with HQ in Aberdeen, with Jurgen Maier as CEO. As the only wind is hot air in WEFminster, doubt if many jobs will be created to cover those lost to oil / gas / coal exploration.
That's a huge loss for the town.
massive
Direct flights from Pakistan no doubt, straight into Social Housing.
Man, I used to drive past the Vauxhall factory in Luton on the way to work every morning. The place is huge.
Was huge 😉 when I started there in 1984 the plant was as big as a village
When PSA bought Vauxhall I immediately predicted that they would close down all British car plants pretty quickly. They did exactly the same thing when they purchased what was left of the old Rootes Group from Chrysler. This has probably nothing to do with EV’s, Labour governments, or any other left leaning policies, it’s simply the French doing what the French do.
If you live in Luton and work for or depend on Vauxhall and voted Labour, good job you just sacked yoursel
I'm just sellimg my 2001 camper van to buy a bigger motorhome. My dad said have you considered an electric motorhome. He said the had a range of 800 miles. What he's seen is just concept and has not been made.
There are some camper vans that are electric but have a range of 150 miles tops. No good to me to travel to an event in a field where there's no charging.
My point is that there's no way I'd sleep slightly above 1.5 tons of lithium batteries.
The perpetual decay of the UK rolls on.
Some say...Britain is clinging onto life, and assisted dying would put us all out of our misery.
But they brought in assisted dying in2020 💉💉💉💉.
They brought in assisted dying in 2020 🥕🥕🥕🥕.
They brought in assisted dying in 2020.
Where is the massive amounts of ELECTRIC POWER GOING TO COME FROM to supply these ( already obsolete) vehicles ????
And Labour is talking about push 2 millions people to work. Where’s the job??? 😂😂😂
Big business has seen the writing on the wall....The biblical exodus of industry and talent has already started....
Net zero putting people of jobs
First MG Rover, then Peugeot, then Honda and now Vauxhall. Soon to be Nissan and JLR. 800,000 jobs in the car industry soon to be on Job Centre Plus. 11 million of working age not working, soon to be 15 million
It’s a money laundering scam, follow the money.
A UK government spokesperson said: “While it’s encouraging to see Stellantis investing in the future of its Ellesmere Port plant, we know this will be a concerning time for the families of employees at Luton who may be affected.
THIS IS THE PAULA VENNELLS SCHOOL OF PUBLIC RELATIONS.
Becouse most who live in london are on. Benifits londistan
You will own nothing and be happy.
Funny how the "get britain working white paper" came out today and this happens 🙄
Get Britain Working, but no idea where. Clueless gov.
And we are sitting on 800 years worth of coal.
Net zero madness.
This has always been on the cards since vauxhall was sold , I totally agree these mandates to 22% sales required is utterly ridiculous, first they force everyone to go electric then they will force pay per mile , instead of pay per mile it should be pay plug to charge and the 500 pound road tax , far easier to implement, no infringement on human and privacy rights , no tracking your every move , just requires a black box built in on the car and telematic online account to top up eg like Tesla plug to charge . So no matter if ev or petrol yhe tax is collected the same and doesn’t bring in road toll
So these idiots are now killing our businesses with these stupid rules.
I hope they all sign the petition?
we have a tesla but the only reason for that was for tax purposes, without that we wouldn't have one.
That won't be for long , you will be taxed driving an ev soon .
That's why over 8/10 EV's are company cars - purely for the tax benefits.
@darrenwilliams2921 yes but I wasn't talking about road tax. The full value of the car is claimable even if on lease so it actually works out the car is free if done right.
Unemployment is going to SOAR.
Yes and buy the wind turbines from France.
Not just the jobs at Luton that will go.... you also have all the arterial businesses and trades that serve and service the Luton plant, so 1,100 jobs could well be 5,000 jobs
I'm 60yrs debt free having recently paid everything off ie mortgage etc, now to be told get a loan to replace your heating,,,oh and get another loan for a battery car....yeah ok sod off.
McVities boss has also come out and said U.K. is not a attractive place for investment….🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
How much energy does the wind farm produce? 7% is it ? and switched off when the winds up cant be stored ?
It doesn't make sense now to make cars in the UK. When the government dictates what you can build and what you can't but that isn't what the public can afford then guess what happens. Expect many more to leave the UK, business is not viable here, particularly car manufacturing
in Italy there's a company that modifies your diesel car with a kit to turn into a Hybrid car, fully registered and official. All for the same cost of converting to Lpg.
I live in a flat with no possibility to install a charger. So have absolutely no wish to buy an EV anytime soon. Plus, I love my petrol car.
It's not just the big companies , the smaller ones supply materials to the big ones , so there will be a large knock on effect.
I'm 63 and we need a Donald Trump here. Forget Nigel Farage, he's a snake. We need a Donald J Trump. I've looked at what Labour are piling on to us and have said to my wife, we won't be buying any more cars. If I'm thinking that, how many more are thinking the same thing.
The car industry is screwed, certainly in Europe.
A real shame for Lutonistan.
£10.000 to replace an all electric Landrover Evoque BATTERY just 3 years old and out of warranty!
this has been on the cards for a long time, the land is too valuable, they already have a plant making vehicles, and a car maker that owns various marques will build where it gets the best subsidies and tax breaks, the French have supported their car makers far more than the UK over the years.
The power stations can't produce enough power to power the country and electric all cars!
Don't push for work,if there is no work to work on.
Focus on working on a better mind.
Here across the pond in the US, I do not understand the European obsession with net zero emissions, including EV mandates. This violates basic concepts of common sense. For people who want to drive an EV, that’s fine. They are impractical for many people for numerous reasons. The government cannot force people to buy something they don’t want.
They can't force you to but they are more than happy for you not have any car at all.
This is cobblers, this is on the Tories, the manufacture wanted the government to stimulate interest in EV’s, but the Tories policies block that, plus Brexit is also a factor. Everything else is just ignorance.
As the diver of an Electric van I would like to say they are awful,my colleague in work drove to four different charging points today before he could find a empty charge point for his van and then actually do some work.
You can lead a horse to water but you cannot make him drink.
Take me to an E.V. car dealer but you will never make me buy one and I don't care how much you discount it.
Is there a plan for recycling electric cars? The battery is the length of the car. No plans for this.
You said something nasty about Tommy Robinson last week, don't do it again Jezza, he is Luton born and bred, and you have nowhere near as many supporters.
I dont want one of these fire traps.
