Manufacturers are engineers who specialize in their field and spend copious amounts of time as hang glider pilots. A simple rigid wing with stick and rudder controls is far easier to predict the flight characteristics of than a hang glider. Also you should really do your research, and get some training before flying something you built yourself. It would be a really bad day if it kinda works and you stall or a wing breaks off.
