and somehow everyone forgets that Doug Baldwin and Lockett were slow, bad at separation and weak to produce at the level they produced with Russ. So Russ knows damn well how tto setup WRs to sucess, look what he did to Sutton last year. Problably Sutton's best individual season.

Now I've heard all the grumblings, like "if Russ was really injured, why is he suited up?" I'm going to focus 9n this one due to the fact that people have forgotten something.
Big Ben, had gotten injured. And it kept him out of games. But, guess what? He was still suited up and was on the depth chart as the back-up QB. Does anyone remember that?
Now, the reason why I do believe that when healthy Russ will play and Justin will sit. Is because.....Justin isn't a #1 QB. It's just that simple. No one can convince me that they believe Justin can take the STEELERS to the playoffs or beyond. You're absolutely fooling yourselves if you do. The Steelers know exactly why Justin was always #2 on the depth chart. And still is.
Steelers fans have gotten to this love affair phase with QBs to the point that everything they do wrong....its the WRs, Oline, head coach, OC's fault. Never the QB since Paranoid Pickett. And it has carried on this season with Justin. If Russ is healthy enough to start, START'EM. The Steelers need a QB with veteran leadership skills that will not only push his teammates, but. Also motivate them. And as of right now.....there is no bonafide leader on that offense. And keep 8n mind. When Mason started last season.....you seen that entire offense change with him. Why?.....Mason not only brought his talents to the field....he also brought leadership and motivated his team.

My guy, you have been hating on Russ in favor of JF. He’s not that good. He’s just YOUNG! I have a story for you about young QBs:
    *HERE ARE SOME INTERESTING FACTS*
JF is 25. Everyone keeps talking like this is an advantage, but the trend analysis below says otherwise:
Over the past 24 years, do you know how many QBs age 25 or younger have won SBs? Just 4!
    Brady (24)
    Rothlisberger (23)
    Russ (25)
    Mahomes (24)
That’s it, and only Russ and Mahomes have done it over the last decade.
Since 2000, only 8 QBs have won SBs before age 30, and only 3 of those (Russ, Foles, and Mahomes) won SBs in the last decade. If we want to include Flacco from 2012, that’s 4:
    Brady
    Rothlisberger
    Dilfer*
    Rodgers
    Flacco**
    Russ
    Foles*
    Mahomes
    *Not a HoF QB
    **Borderline HoF QB (depending)
Three of the four guys under age 30 who have won SBs since 2012 were either HoF QBs (Russ, Mahomes) or borderline HoF QBs (Flacco) and all showed it early in their careers. They didn’t need 3-4 years.
In 2012, Russ walked into a team that had gone 7-9 in back-to-back seasons (2010 and 2011) with the LoB and Beast Mode on the team, and nearly led that same squad to the SB as a true rookie in 2012. He then led that squad to back-to-back SBs.
*For the record, there’s a particular metric showing that Russ gets in the HoF no matter what he does going forward, but that’s another debate for another time.*
Each of the QBs who didn’t win at least one SB by age 25 was at least 27 years old by the time they did.
This means Dilfer, Rodgers, Flacco, and Foles were all 27 or older when they won their SBs. Again, two of those age 27+ guys are basically HoF QBs, and the other two had completely loaded teams.
Guys 25 and younger don’t win SBs unless they are truly special, which Russ was and is.
Guys rarely win before age 30, and almost all of those who do are on a HoF track when they do it. Those who aren’t future HoFers (e.g., Dilfer and Foles) have completely loaded teams and HoF caliber coaches!
    Trends matter, people.
How likely is Justin Fields to be that guy given the trend? He has had three miserable seasons in Chicago and is not on a HoF trajectory.
Yet, delusional Steelers fans think JF will get them a SB this year or next year with the O-Line and WR deficiencies the Steelers have. It’s not going to happen that soon, if it ever does.
The Steelers are gambling on JF, and they aren’t likely to win that gamble.
    #Craps! Next shooter!
He can become Geno Smith or Sam Darnold, but that’s going to take some time.
If the Steelers and Steelers fans are looking to win now, Russ is the QB to get them there, and that’s only if they fix that O-Line. Russ will develop a WR for himself!
Unlike Mahomes and other QBs, Russ has proven that he doesn’t need superstar receivers. He just needs disciplined receivers with good hands who run crisp routes and will extend those routes when plays break down. That’s it.
That encapsulates what Russ had while in Seattle. He made DK into a superstar and then left when DK was blowing up. Tyler Locket is great but unlikely to be a HoF WR.
    S. Rice
    Obamanu
    Baldwin
    T. Lockett
    G. Tate
    Kearse
    D. Moore
    R. Lockette
    P. Richardson
    L. Willson (TE)
    Z. Miller (TE)
    J. Graham (TE, past his prime)
    Josh Gordon (a few games)
Russ threw the ball to mostly nobodies and had high-level success.
The fans who know his FULL history and understand football know what happened in Denver and know that he should be QB1 in Pittsburgh.

Russ is played behind a patrick offensive line most of his career anybody who says he’s not gonna survive behind that Line is stupid or never watched him play. He’s the best option for this team to get the offense going for the simple fact is no team is going to stack the box knowing that he can pass the ball all over the field on them or especially throw the ball deep to Pickens

    • @DeCurtaRican

JF’s sack% is always higher than Russ’s. JF’s backups in Chicago were sacked at a 6.6% rate while he was sacked at a 12.6% rate playing behind the same O-Line.
In 2023, Russ’s runs resulted in 1st downs 47% of the time, while JF’s only reached first downs 37% of the time. This year, JF’s 1st-down% is 29%.
Furthermore, Russ and JF were not far apart on YPA, with Russ and JF separated by about 0.5 YPA.
Russ, who appeared in 15 games in 2023 and had almost zero designed runs, finished 8th in QB rush yards last season, barely behind #7 Patrick Mahomes, who played in all 17 games and had 3+ designed runs per game, an average of about 1 per quarter.
Russ can still rush for 400-550 yards. Combined with his passing ability, that’s better than 1,000 rush yards and lousy passing any day of the week.
And people need to quit talking like Russ didn’t have his own h3ll in Denver! Not only did his team suck, especially the O-Line and WRs, but he had a coach hating on him, trying to provoke him into an altercation so they could void his contract, and basically not even coaching him.
Sean Payton has never treated a player the way he treated Russ.

Here are Russ’s 2023 rankings with a coach sabotaging him by keeping the playbook closed, no run game, ONE reliable receiver, an inconsistent at best O-Line, and a horrible defense:
      #1 in 4th Qtr comebacks (4)
      #1 in Game-Winning Drives (4)
#2 in Adj. Completion Rate (78.8%)
      #2 in TD% (5.9)
      #4 in Completion Differentials
      #5 in TD-INT Ratio (26:8)
      #7 in Passer Rating (98.0)
#8 in QB Rushing Yards (341, 15 games)
      #9 in TDs (26)
      #9 in INT Rate (1.8)
      #10 in INTs (8)
      #11 in Completion% (66.4%)
According to Sports Info Solutions (SIS), Russ completed 6 passes of 40+ air yards past the original LoS (for 301 yards), good for #1 in the NFL. 4 of those 6 went for TDs. The 2 that didn’t were drops by his WRs. He attempted 16 such passes, 10 of which were deemed on target and none of which resulted in an INT…0 INTs!
