@@crylittlesister6377 Yup, and Sonny did what no other robot could do in that situation, pass on his primary objective which had the higher chance of success in favor of his secondary objective, despite the lower probability.
not really, I've always thought it was disrespectful of Asimov's potrait of robots as mostly helpers, rather then foes. While true that he introduced law zero, it was in a much less violent and assertive context. I don't think he'd have appreciated this movie.
@@furrball But they were mostly helpers, as shown from the begnning of the movie. Only the NS5s (bar Sonny) and the demolition robot were foes, and even then, they were all being controlled remotely by a single malfunctioning AI.
This movie is amazing. 10/10 for me. The plot, characters, music, setting, everything is perfect. Will Smith did amazingly in this movie. It deserves a sequel.
Knowing Proyas’s track record after this movie, and his attitude towards the reviews of Gods of Bullshit (I refuse to call it what they want me to call it), are you sure you want a sequel?
One thing I always thought they should have included in this scene and which would have made the humanity of Sonny all the more potent is if immediately after Spooner yells at him to save Calvin, and his vision immediately scans both her and VIKI, if it showed a 'probability of success' calculation. The entire reason that Spooner despises the robots is that they care only about that which has the highest probability of success rather than about what might be considered more 'human' concerns. If they had explicitly shown Sonny consciously choosing to do the 'human' thing, knowing full well that it was more likely to fail, I think that would have made the scene much more powerful.
+fanghur Holy shit...I can't believe that didn't occur to me at all. That...you're right, it would have made that a LOT more powerful. Granted as it stands it still does but, holy shit.
This is such an underrated movie. The delivery of Will saying "SAVE HER! SAVE THE GIRL!" still gives me goosebumps The throw, the catch, Sonny launching himself towards Calvin with the music in the background Like...top tier man
This movie could totally work as a video game as well. Detective work like Batman Arkham games, and stylized shootouts with call of duty type cut scenes topped with classic final boss battle.
My favorite thing about this scene was the sounds VIKI made when she started to malfunction. Its like....Woman to man to demon to little girl. Awesome!!
0:43 "SONNY SAVE CALVIN!!!" Great delivery of that line by the legend Will Smith. Scenes like this auto resolved any problem i had with his behavior at the oscars 😂
Yeah threw it high enough to give Spooner reaction time to grab it and in the direction of V.i.k.i so he can make a straight line to her core. Spooner/Sonny team up was cracked
That shot of Calvin's Pov of her seeing Spooner falling is one of the greatest feats in cinema. There arent enough Pov shots of the secondary char. seeing the main character meet the climax. Imagine if we got some POV shots in Lord of the Rings for example of frodos POV seeing gandalf hold Balrog back
This scene has it all... Three leaps of faith with low chances of success, one Sonny, two Smith, and the nanite throw, retribution of ai where the logical course of action isn't followed, initial questioning from Sonny but then he does it anyway even though it isn't the logical right choice which goes back to the story of his arm... The unit that saved him from drowning was logical, just a machine, followed the best option and weighed up the statistical chances of success... Sonny on the other hand is alive, he did what he was asked because he knew the price of not doing so. Also the arm that allowed him to do what he did is the result of that dumb logic, and he used it to end it. Brilliant stuff....
Sonny having the two brains was a direct call back in this scene if he hadn’t he would have just applied the nanites and allowed the doctor to die. It also was used when he’s fighting, the reason Sonny was better than them is because he was given an imaginative brain thus giving him creative thinking and control … god I love this movie
"You have so got to die." Really Will Smith? That's the best line they could give you as a comeback right before you kill the main villain? They could've done better I think
I didn’t realize when he said save the girl he was referring to the time the earlier generation robots saved him over the girl because he had a slightly higher percentage of survival.
0:38 When Sunny scans the options destroying Viki or saving the girl. Then comes to the point where destroying Viki is a higher chance then saving the girl, and overrides the decision when spooner tell her save the girl and saves her.
Spooner really freed Sonny from being a “slave to logic.” Sonny’s logic is undeniable that applying the nanites to save all of mankind from a lifetime of captivity is paramount. But Spooner reminds him that just because he can choose to ignore the 2nd Law, he shouldn’t. He should preserve all human life when possible. Then Sonny can pass it on at the end to the other robots.
"My logic is undeniable." *Yet it fails to present any logical argument as to why this decision would benefit the goal of "saving" humanity. Extermination does not mean you preserve or save them, you just countered the entire point of your existence.* In other words, I call bullshit.
Eagle Eye was sort of part 2. The both have drones controlling everything, wanting to make the world a better place without human interaction and Shia LaBuff, even two Shia LaBuffs .
I always come back to this scene. His delivery of "Sonny save the girl" was top tier. You could feel the stress, concern, and fear all at once.
You literally just explained the reason why I’m here on this video.
The music is perfectly timed too.
