Nawab Wajid Ali Shah Zoological Garden is situated in the heart of Lucknow, the capital town of Uttar Pradesh.. It is about 20 Kms. from Amausi Airport, which is served by flights from New Delhi, Kolkatta, Varanasi, Bangalore and Mumbai. Lucknow is connected with international places too, like Sharjah, Jeddah, etc. The city's railway station, popularly known as Charbagh Railway Junction is a major railway station. It is situated at a distance of around 15 Kms. from the zoo. It is connected with all the major cities and towns of the country. The nearest and very old and famous shopping complex Hazratganj is hardly 2 Kms. from the zoo.
It is situated in 29 hectares area in the heart of the city. It houses around 1000 animals of more than 100 species. The zoo gets around 11-12 lacs visitors every year. The zoo is well known for its ‘Bal Rail’, a toy train that runs across the zoo and paddle boating that allows the visitors to recreate while visiting the animals. The visitors can also avail the facility of Pollution free Battery Vehicle for moving around the zoo.

You can see around 72 reptiles, 298 birds, and 438 mammals belonging to 97 different species. Lucknow Zoo is one of the only two zoos in India which are home to the orangutan. Among the significant elements of Lucknow Zoo, toy train, vintage train, and State Museum Lucknow attract around 11-12 lakhs of visitors annually. The toy train has a track of 1.5 kilometers long and provides rides from Chandrapuri station to almost all sections of the zoo. The vintage train is a British-era train that was discarded and shifted from Maharajganj to the zoo. Lucknow Zoo is a great place to learn about animals and have a fun day with family and friends.
