Hi Kait. I want to tell you my success story and thank you so very much for all your help. In Jan 2021 I was told I had Type 2 Diabetes. I was 57 and that scared the hell out of me because I know someone that died with complications of Diabetes because he did not take of himself. I am 5'8" (172.72 cm) I weighed 252 lb (114.3kg). I had a stagnate life style. Worked a desk job at home. I was already on BP Med and Cholesterol Med. No surprise there. So he put me on 2 types of diabetes meds. So I started watching your UA-cam channel. Changed my diet completely. Stopped the Carbs. Or drastically cut down on the Carbs. Followed your breakfast in one video. Started walking everyday, as long as my feet and ankles could stand it. About 30-40 minutes a day. Fast forward to Dec 2021 I had lost 35 lbs and my doctor took me off 1 of the diabetes meds. He was proud of my effort and my triglycerides level. However I am still on Metformins twice a day. I am not down 53 lbs (24kg), I'm 199 lbs (90.3kg) and I was super excited to see that scale not top 200 lb. I see my doctor again in July and I hope to God he stops the med or at least cut is down to 1 a day. I feel so much better now and I feel better about myself as well. I have pulled old clothes out of the closet that I out grew and now I wear them again. I can't thank you enough Kait for your very informative videos. I can tell you that you have helped turned this man around in health and the way I look at food. Thank you so much! BTW, I still plan to lose more, I would like to get down to 185 lb (83.9 kg). Once I get there well lets see if I can go lower. To anyone else that read this. I tell you, listen to what Kait says and use it to your advantage and get healthy. You will thank yourself in the end.
This morning my blood sugar was 223. Today, I ate eggs and sausage for breakfast. Salad and chicken for lunch. Pork rinds and sugar snap peas for snacks. Air fried fish and broccoli for dinner. My blood sugar was 83 tonight before dinner. My A1C was 11 last week. Hopefully my type 2 improves soon. Feeling a little better tonight compared to yesterday. I'm concerned I'll have trouble sticking to a low carb life, but I'm going to do it! Less than 30 gm carbs a day.
You can do a low-carb diet! I know it sucks at first but think of it as the sugar and the carbohydrates as the villains in your life because they are what made you diabetic! That should take a desire to eat that stuff away.. definitely works for me You may want to look into Lewis bakery keto bread. I don't know if you can find it in stores but you can order it and have it shipped to your house. They have regular white bread and Hawaiian bread and it's 1 to 0 net carbs a slice. 9 carbohydrates but eight grams of fiber. It's kind of a cheat but you can still enjoy a sandwich here in there with that stuff. I'm limiting myself to two slices a day and just make a grilled cheese sandwich.. Perhaps look into a mediterranean-type diet. that helps a lot of people
Be strong....when you feel like you might give up... remember what you can lose if you allow yourself to give up... Don't give up... YOU CAN DO THIS.... I changed things around because I did not want to go on damaging meds. Have faith in yourself and be patient. Good luck 😅
I have replaced all those foods with steak & eggs, chicken, and fish along with vegetables like cabbage, broccoli, asparagus, and cauliflower. For fats, I use olive oil, real butter, coconut oil, and bacon fat. For beverages, I drink water, coffee with heavy whipping cream, green tea, lemon water, and electrolyte powder mixed with water. I also get at least 10 to 12 thousand steps daily. My hemoglobin A1C has gone from 7.8 to 5.7 in 10 months. Cholesterol is down to 162 from 240. Lost 35 lbs and 4 inches around my waist. I feel great. Thank You!!!
I am a PCOS woman who has fluctuated weight all her life. I lost weight about four years ago with Nutribullet smoothies. They are still my go-to for getting back on the wagon. I had no idea I was making unhealthy smoothies for myself. For most people, a strawberry/banana/apple smoothie is probably fine, but not for me, who has insulin resistance. Weight was improving because I was improving my calorie and nutrient intake, but I didn't know it was doing nothing for my insulin problem and PCOS. I would personally love a more detailed video about decent smoothies for people with insulin resistance...not with the idea that we will have them every day, but so that we can have a smoothie we can enjoy without spiking our insulin. Thanks for all you do, Kait.
I have an avocado, raspberry and whole milk smoothie, sometimes I’ll use a bit of heavy cream to thicken it. I use frozen avocado and frozen raspberries so it can be more like ice-cream. I’ve done avocado, peanut butter and a dash of organic cocoa powder and a tsp of MCT oil and they are pretty good also.
Your videos are very helpful. I have stopped majority of all these foods. My A1C was 6.4 in February. I started taking ACV before my meals which consist of high protein and low carbs. My A1C is now 6.0 my goal is 5.5 it works!
Thank you Coach Kait!!! Excellent content here! Also, I don’t if you remember but I’m a general dentist and I had commented during your recovery portion of your surgery. I really love how everything turned out. I hope you are as well!
Kait, when it comes to rice, I have read that by soaking the rice in water the day before cooking, removes most of the starch and there significantly reduces the carb + insulin spike. What are your thoughts?
Yes! This can reduce it a bit! I am actually just uploading a video about making carbs more insulin friendly. Once I get the thumbnail and everything done that will be up for early access for members (hopefully today or tomorrow 🤗).
Big Question for you......why are doctors and even endocrinologist not aware of this information. Diabetes yes, But Reactive Hypoglycemia they have no clue. I had my second visit with a new endocrinologist and she told me flat out that she didn't know how to treat me. There are no meds just diet but she could not tell me any diet to follow. My Holistic Chiropractor put me on the Keto Diet. World of difference. Your information is perfect. I am also working with an Herbalist that has me taking Bitter Melon. Big difference. I feel like my lights have been turned on. What are they teaching in Med School???? Money???
I think I’d rather die than to live that restricted/miserably. I did the whole strict carnivore diet for almost a year. Besides weight loss (which I can achieve on any diet where my calories are restricted) it was a completely stupid and boring diet.
Great clarification Kait. I stopped eating all the foods&drinks you mentioned felt better and getting great results. Recently I've been adding in some foods to see how I reacted, well... Rice I thought couldn't do any harm I was wrong, I'm a Caribbean women really sad not able to have some traditional foods. 😢
Hi Kait! Great list. I’m think some people can’t just eat dessert once in awhile. Sugar is highly addictive. Many bad foods do cause us to crave it. I personally can skip out on a lot of processed foods. Since I do not have any major health issues, it’s not a big deal to eat if I go over 30 grams of carbs. I am better at low carbs when I cook dinner. If my health did have a major problem then I would be more strict. I was pre diabetic. I could easily be diagnosed as pre diabetic if I do not watch out or balance things out. So many people do not realize the food industry purposely put ingredients to keep us addicted.
I eat Two Good yogurt. It's Greek yogurt with 11g of protein and 2g of sugar. It is low fat, though, so I will have to make sure to eat fat with it from now on. Maybe some nuts, or something like that. It's sweetened with stevia. I DO miss the sugar, but it's not too bad, especially the vanilla
is Kiwi a good fruit for diabetic , thanks for answering my question, love your channel so much helpful information, easy to understand, you did put a lot of effort on every video, good job Kait
I use butter, ghee or lard. I need to get some tallow. I grew up on rice! It was hard to give up. I love flour tortillas. I actually was able to skip the tortillas. I use egg wraps instead! The hardest thing that I still struggle with is wine. Not everyday but a couple of times a week.
@@Scrapegoat yes, I’ve seen them. But unfortunately I’m mildly allergic to cows milk so I’m suppose to avoid “milk” products. It’s really hard to do. I didn’t know I was allergic until I was 46 yo. It’s a hard habit to break. 😭
So much beneficial ❤❤❤really really logical and healthier information... When I'm suffering from non diabetic hypoglycemia... People advised me to have more fruit juice, rice, chocolate etc to get a short term relief... Now I got a long term solution through your video... Thank you sooo much ❤❤
So basically everything that I love and crave in the morning isn't allowed? No way can I go along with this. It definitely isn't sustainable for life to have to go without these foods. Not for me anyway. I will end up feeling deprived.
The choice is yours 🤍 I am just giving you the information as someone who has helped 100s of clients reverse insulin resistance. What you choose to do with it is up to you.
Going thru the list, I was waiting for you to drop one I can’t/won’t live without. Yes I occasionally give into “sin”, that said most of these foods are not my normal. That said, generally I make most of my own meals because it seems all the fast food options are both lack nutrient value and satiety. Given a choice of rarely eating these food vs. developing any of the serious life destroying diabetic complications, I keep all you listed as occasional. I’d like to keep my toes, vision, kidneys and other body parts.
I see rice, bread, & pasta are bad (as expected) What about potatoes? Apparently they are not AS BAD (or they would appear on the list like rice & the others did), but to what extent are they better? Are they simply only not AS BAD but still very bad, or are they actually OK?
Best breakfast start with a cup of ceremonial matcha latte with plain almond creamer no sugar, a piece of dark 90% chocolate, nuts and eggs boiled. It's my daily eating for breakfast. Blood glucose went down from 118 fasted test to below 85 steadily. It's delicious though and I never get bored of my menu
I use fruit juice or dried fruit to flavor water along with ground cinnamon, stevia, and drops of vinegar including komboocha vinegar, fruit vinegar, or switchel vinegar. I make smoothies with fresh or frozen berries and home made high fat yogurt that's 1:1 ratio whole milk to heavy cream and sweeten with stevia. I make a parfait as a sub for flavired yogurt using my home made yogurt, fresh berries, and pecans. I found recipes online for pasta made of Parmesan instead of flour and eggs, some with xantham gum some without. I recently started eating 1/4 cup of over night quick oats as part of my breakfast along with protien like meat, eggs, or cheese. The overnight oats have dehydrated berries, live culture yogurt, pecans, and cinnamon along with whole goats milk. As for baked goods, u can use things like coconut flour. With rice, sub with coconut flour. If u don't want to make noodles, u cam buy shiritake noodles instead. There are healthy subs or healthy ways to do a lot of the things we like. For instance I made mini meatloafs yesterday using coconit flour, a knock off potatoes salad using diakon radish and Mayo made with only olive oil, raw onions, and mushrooms sauteed in olive oil. It looks and tastes the same as the real deal without tons of carbs and hydroginated crap. The meatloaf used a mix of 80% lean ground Lamb and mild Italian sausage for the meat, but u can use whatever meat u want
Awesome. Thanks allot for your video. Most of them I already knew from other great health videos and Doctor videos on You tube. You are confirming what I already learned. I am doing very well with eating the right whole foods now and losing weight. take care.
I have just receltly found your videos and am playing catchup. What is your opinion of "Catalina Crunch cereal"? I have been eating cereal all my life and now with diabetes, I am working on substitutes. I eat this with almond milk. I'm not that fond of eggs that I could eat them every day. Best regards and thanks for all the great information.
What about cereal like Catalina brand keto friendly and what about milk. Are the oat and flax and soy milk ok or no. Thank You for your information it really appreciated.
You got me off juice back when I first discovered your videos. Soda and deserts went as well. Margarine is something that my specific health issues won't let me agree with you on. I like Smart Balance margarine on the one hand, and cheese and butter can, in excess, give me pain across the top of my chest. I love the stuff but must keep it's use to a minimum. I thought rice and pasta were healthy foods before, but it has not bin hard to cut back on that now that I've come to understand you. One thing I will keep in my diet is Homemade Corn Bread. I did eat too much of it in the past, but it will always be part of my monthly meal plan. I like this video today for it's realism and clarity. Thanks for all your efforts.
Are you aware of any studies that link high doses of statins to increase A1c levels? Always enjoy your videos and I’m trying hard to eliminate/reduce bread consumption.
Quit 11 out of 14, never did smoothies or margarine, alcohol is a rare summertime drink. The 11 I quit are all advertised as "healthier" in one way or another by the USDA, ADA, AHA. Surprised that ice cream didn't make the list, had a 24oz. an evening habit.
I only drink alcohol on the odd occasion and very little at that but many people who live to be 100yrs old usually have their favourite tipple eg whiskey, rum ,wine etc once per day. Apparently there's benefits of one shot of a spirit or one pint of lager, bitter, Guinness etc per day.
When you say alcohol is bad for insulin resistance do you just mean any and every kind? I ask because I looked up Crown Royal because that's my favorite alcohol and it says there's no carbs or sugar in it. So as long as you don't mix it with anything with sugar or carbs you should be fine right?
Fructose doesn't affect blood glucose directly but is taken to the liver and is converted to fat if the blood glucose level doesn't drop, thus leading to fatty liver. Due to the structure of the sugar it exists (in a higher proportion to glucose) in the blood in a straight chained form and thus reacts more readily with free amines found in proteins to form AGE's (Advanced Glycation End products). It has been noted that in centenarians the presence of AGE's is very low and mouse models were conducted to investigate if AGE's had an effect on lifespan. Healthy mice were fed AGE's and compared to mice with an identical diet without AGE's. The lifespan of mice fed AGE's was significantly lower. (for UA-cam information look for videos by LUSTIG and Lustgarten) (Lower fructose helps with lifespan)
What is glycemic index or glycemic load of a freshly squeezed orange?? Also when you eat along with other things such as boiled eggs, is it still going to do more harm than good??
What about low-carb tortillas? Being mostly plant-based eater with a few exceptions. I eat tortillas every day. The very small fajita sized ones and I fill them with beans and veggies and a very small amount of rice. We’re talking maybe a tablespoon of rice per tortilla times two tortillas for lunch or dinner and then filled with beans and veggies
I kind of 'hack' my cereal when I have it. Basically, if I'm having Cinnamon Toast Crunch for example I'll use a high protein nut milk and sprinkle on some almonds. I also have boiled eggs and greek yogurt with berries and monkfruit sweetener on the side.
@@meatbasedvegan4859 Do you think I'm some scrub who can't count calories? The whole vid was about controlling insulin spikes as well so wtf are you even talking about? Relax dude.
Hello Coach Kait. Great video👍 I have a question; I’ve been on Keto and IF 22-23 hrs fast daily for the past 5 years. I do enjoyed my foods (more carbs than I should have) while on all inclusive resorts or special occasions. If you let the pastas cool down before eating them have the same effect as starch resistant ? Cheers,
Sugar had been a bit high this past 6 months. I am thinking tropical fruit is my problem. I did not know. Been eating a ton of it. Will cut tropical fruit out of diet and hopes it helps. Also can you some time touch base on how much effect exercise has on glucose levels. I am 65 and very active. Ride a bike about 6000 miles a year (10,000 mile in 2018), in good shape to where I am ready for my next cross state ride. Go to the gym about 4 X a week for hard work out. I can do better pushups then my gym teacher, take Les Miles classes, not chair yoga.
How do you feel about Aunt Millie’s Live Carb Smart bread? It has 11 grams of fiber per slice. It has water resistant tapioca starch, wheat gluten, wheat protein isolate, inulin, yeast, oat fiber, allulose, guar gum, salt, potassium chloride, vinegar, sorbic acid, soybean oil, and a few other b vitamins.
What I don’t understand is when you talk about smoothies, isn’t the fiber all still there, but just pulverized? I will definitely change mine now if I do one, with only berries for fruit and more protein and avocado. But it seems like it can be ketofied!
Getting rid of bread was one of the harder things but also one of the better things To happen these days I eat more than thought I would and have really no need for bread products.. But every now and then I’ll happily go for a croissant or brioche.. not good, but at least it’s lower in carbs than most breads.. but I usually pay for them with a good walk afterwards..
These can be ok once in awhile, they are better options for keeping BS and insulin low. However, high amounts of nuts like almond can be inflammatory so I am hesitant to recommend breads like this as a staple 🙏
p.s. couldn't believe i would be doing omad 👍 i did a gradual process since it took me 63 years to get where i was at so even baby steps are still steps! if you're struggling hang in there you are worth it😁
I was surprised potatoes werent on the list should u eat or avoid them when trying to reverse insulin resistance thanks also what are your thoughts on drinking milk
What is considered ''high heat'' in cooking? for example is cooking an egg over easy in a small pan considered high heat? (the burner itself does go to medium high in intensity to cook a couple of eggs overeasy in a couple of minutes at most) I feel more explanation into what is considered ''high heat'' is extremely subjective, I think you can get away with cooking or I'll say ''grilling'' steaks on low heat, if they're lean enough, or small amounts of pasta or rice, but some dishes might take too long to cook in low heat all the time, I imagine, (especially for families where portion cooking demands higher heat to make meals more quickly right?)
My youngest granddaughter asked if she could have some juice. I told her I had some fresh squeezed onion juice. She asked if she could have a glass of water. " Sure honey, whatever you want ".

What about dry figs? Can this be eaten if one has insulin resistance??
Awesome. Thanks allot for your video. Most of them I already knew from other great health videos and Doctor videos on You tube. You are confirming what I already learned. I am doing very well with eating the right whole foods now and losing weight. take care.
♥️♥️
Is potatoes good for insulin resistance.
What about organic coconut oil? I have switched to coconut oil for cooking☺️is it a right choice?
What about cereal like Catalina brand keto friendly and what about milk. Are the oat and flax and soy milk ok or no. Thank You for your information it really appreciated.
Hi:How about the Bitter melon ? is this a truth that it lowers the blood sugar and if yes, how to prepare it? thanks! cheers from Toronto!
Thank you for this! What about red meat? Is red meat a no-no with IR? It seems pretty high on the Insulin Index.
Your so right. Portion sizing doesn't change anything. You put trash in you'll get a trash body and health. Great video. 👏 🙌
Are you aware of any studies that link high doses of statins to increase A1c levels? Always enjoy your videos and I’m trying hard to eliminate/reduce bread consumption.
Very informative. Good that "pop" had a photo :). Never would have guessed what that is.
I think saying pop is a Canadian thing 😂
I grew up saying “pop” in MN but had to switch to soda in Alaska!
I do not get it. Why the less processed rice and Pasta will spike insuline
I cut all sugar out of my diet about 25 days ago. Withdraw was "real". I've been eating 5 strawberries a day. Is that bad ?
Wow
Beautiful description 👌
thanks for your videos 👍 i went from 3 meals a day plus ten snacks
My fruit smoothie contains mixed berries blueberries strawberries raspberries cottage cheese dash of heavy cream and water blended
Thanks kait but what about cold pressed mustard oil , which is made from mustard seeds ...please reply.
Thank you Kait, your 👍 great.
(for UA-cam information look for videos by LUSTIG and Lustgarten)
(Lower fructose helps with lifespan)
You look so pretty, love the hair! Thanks for the tips! 😊
🥰🥰
Sorry for going off topic but please tell me what I can do to prevent nausea when I try to take MCT oil daily
Well done 👍
What is glycemic index or glycemic load of a freshly squeezed orange?? Also when you eat along with other things such as boiled eggs, is it still going to do more harm than good??
very good advice, thanks !
♥️♥️
Thank you Kait
What about low-carb tortillas? Being mostly plant-based eater with a few exceptions. I eat tortillas every day. The very small fajita sized ones and I fill them with beans and veggies and a very small amount of rice. We’re talking maybe a tablespoon of rice per tortilla times two tortillas for lunch or dinner and then filled with beans and veggies
Bread is going to be the toughest. I need to figure out how to make almond flour/coconut flour bread ASAP
I kind of 'hack' my cereal when I have it. Basically, if I'm having Cinnamon Toast Crunch for example I'll use a high protein nut milk and sprinkle on some almonds. I also have boiled eggs and greek yogurt with berries and monkfruit sweetener on the side.
Thats not a hack at all, thats just adding a shitload of extra calories lol. Nuts are meant to be eaten sparingly not consumed as a milk.
@@meatbasedvegan4859 Do you think I'm some scrub who can't count calories? The whole vid was about controlling insulin spikes as well so wtf are you even talking about? Relax dude.
Hello Coach Kait. Great video👍
I have a question; I’ve been on Keto and IF 22-23 hrs fast daily for the past 5 years.
I do enjoyed my foods (more carbs than I should have) while on all inclusive resorts or special occasions.
If you let the pastas cool down before eating them have the same effect as starch resistant ?
Cheers,
Kait thank thank you for sharing.
🥰🥰
Thanks kait!
Does tomato juice count in the "bad juice" column.
?
I have cut all of these foods except smoothies. I use frozen banana, frozen blueberries, greek yogurt and almond milk. This will be the last to go.
Excellent video
🙏🙏
How do you feel about Aunt Millie’s Live Carb Smart bread? It has 11 grams of fiber per slice. It has water resistant tapioca starch, wheat gluten, wheat protein isolate, inulin, yeast, oat fiber, allulose, guar gum, salt, potassium chloride, vinegar, sorbic acid, soybean oil, and a few other b vitamins.
👎 inflammatory ingredients and soy bean oil can worsen IR

What about energy drinks? And do you have any videos on why you form a Buffalo hump with insulin resistance ?
Hi Kate, what are your thoughts on the macro linseed and sunflower bread at woollies?
It only has 3.6 grams of carbs per 2 slices.
What I don’t understand is when you talk about smoothies, isn’t the fiber all still there, but just pulverized? I will definitely change mine now if I do one, with only berries for fruit and more protein and avocado. But it seems like it can be ketofied!
Watch this video 🤗

Stop using vegetable oil a long time ago. But it makes a great bar and chain lube for my chainsaw =)
Hahahaha 😂 Much better use for it!
Filled up the chainsaw today.... thinking about filling the van too
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@HealthCoachKait 😎👋
Thanks
Getting rid of bread was one of the harder things but also one of the better things
To happen
these days I eat more than thought I would and have really no need for bread products..
But every now and then I’ll happily go for a croissant or brioche.. not good, but at least it’s lower in carbs than most breads.. but I usually pay for them with a good walk afterwards..
Is basmatic rice good for diabetes. I ate it once and my hands didn't burn
There are sourdough keto bread recipes using nut or coconut flour.
These can be ok once in awhile, they are better options for keeping BS and insulin low. However, high amounts of nuts like almond can be inflammatory so I am hesitant to recommend breads like this as a staple 🙏
What about oatmeal?
Is it okay to cook whit butter ?
Great video!!!
♥️♥️
There you are... I was thinking it . Vegetable oil!!! Which vegetable?? Bringal? Ladyfinger? Drumstick? Cucumber? It was just a maskname
p.s. couldn't believe i would be doing omad 👍 i did a gradual process since it took me 63 years to get where i was at so even baby steps are still steps! if you're struggling hang in there you are worth it😁
I have always said i dont like breakfast foods for breakfast. Now I know why!
I was surprised potatoes werent on the list should u eat or avoid them when trying to reverse insulin resistance thanks also what are your thoughts on drinking milk
I am just starting to cut way down on these. Can only help.
Would juice also include cold press juice? I know that may be silly but curious!
*I don't eat any of these 14 foods as I am a Carnivore. I've never felt better* 🌟
what about cranberry ? 🤔🙂
What is considered ''high heat'' in cooking? for example is cooking an egg over easy in a small pan considered high heat? (the burner itself does go to medium high in intensity to
cook a couple of eggs overeasy in a couple of minutes at most) I feel more explanation into what is considered ''high heat'' is extremely subjective, I think you can get away with
cooking or I'll say ''grilling'' steaks on low heat, if they're lean enough, or small amounts of pasta or rice, but some dishes might take too long to cook in low heat all the time, I imagine,
(especially for families where portion cooking demands higher heat to make meals more quickly right?)
Can you have grass fed whey protein at all? If so when?
Is gluten and dairy free bread good?
My youngest granddaughter asked if she could have some juice. I told her I had some fresh squeezed onion juice. She asked if she could have a glass of water. " Sure honey, whatever you want ".
Onion juice! 😂😭
What about almond oil or coconut oil?
So wheat is also not good ... no wheat and no rice what to eat
