Good camera and great points made here. I think UA-camr 'Bald and Bankrupt' uses a camera like this. I use the DJI Osmo action camera and it has great wind rejection. Also the Osmo has two screens (unlike any GoPro) in case you are recording a piece to camera to have the perfect selfie shot. Typically my record settings are 1080 @30fps. There is a nice in between on the Osmo @48fps before anything above. You are 100% right in what you said about rendering files above 30fps. Anyway Hollywood movies are shot at 30fps and to me that says it all. I have yet to shoot a 4k video!! I have altered a long selfie gimbal intended for a phone to suit / clamp the Osmo perfectly along with a small tripod / selfie stick and it all works perfectly fine. Sometimes (depending on the shot especially if the Osmo is about 10 feet above my head) I will connect my phone to the Osmo via Bluetooth to see exactly what I'm doing. Basically when that happens I'm looking down at all times to my phone screen held in one hand while my other hand is holding the fully extended gimbal with the Osmo on top. It is not often I require shots like that but I have a video coming up soon (a part 2) of my recent visit to London where you see this happening on a boat cruse on the river Themes. You made a great point about big fancy cameras. Given what we have available today there is no need for all that overkill stuff.... all of the time. Anyway this was a very enjoyable video to watch and I will be sure to check out the rest of your content very soon. Good luck and continued success 👍
Bald and bankrupt, Backpacker Ben and Timmie Carter are still using this camera seems to help create big UA-cam channels so it must still be punching above it's age . Wish Sony would release anew model, io would buy try picking up an old one still selling at original price.
Just got myself an FDR x3000 and starting a new vlog where I visit haunted locations around the world, thanks for the tips - looking forward to getting to grips with it!
Great video and pretty much spot on about this little great camera. I regret that I sold it but I'm getting it again. Built-in audio quality and the natural looking optical stabilization seem still superior over the latest GoPros. Pity that Sony stopped making them and the value went up quite high!
7:17 That is camera conspiricies! He introduced me to vlogging world, the most realistic and funny youtuber out there. Your test is a very nice one, too. Thank you!
You are so spot on with these smaller action cameras. Taking it with you is no problems and you don't feel like you are getting awkward stares.. People still look at you when you're vlogging on the Sony I'm sure, I get people looking at me when vlogging on the GoPro Hero 8.. I think it's slightly smaller than the Sony you have.. I bought a Canon M50 while here in Mexico, I bought it Friday, did a test vlog with it Saturday, and took it back Sunday.. I didn't like how tight my face was in the shots, I didn't like the stabilization.. awful.. the only plus to this as opposed to the GoPro was the built in audio on the Canon was better.. but I didn't feel like spending $400 on a wide angle lens that will give me that GoPro superview look as well as a $200-$300 heavy gimbal.. like you said it was already awkward carrying the camera itself around, and then a gimbal that adds 5-10 pounds is just obnoxious.. I do want something else besides the GoPro so I am still looking into the Sony X3000.. No matter what camera you get though there's going to be downsides to it.. but rather have small downsides on a $400 camera as opposed to major problems with a $700 camera that you have to spend another $700 to get it perfect.. sorry for the lengthy comment! Thanks for making this video. have you used the GoPro Hero 8?
EXCELLENT review and real life advice you show in this video. I recently started to make some of my vlog with the X3000 coming from different handycams and pocket cameras. The Image quality are more then good enough for my needs in the X3000 aswell as the sound. And as you mentione the stabilization is awesome. I totaly agree with you that if its too smooth stabilization it look a little bit un-natural. I prefere when you actually can see that you "walk" in the image. Edit: many reviewers have some issues with the sound of wind that this camera can pick up. There are some that make custom wind muffler with a sponge and rubber band and it works good. I took double-sided tape and taped a cut out of a dead-cat as a wind shield. It looks in my opinion little better than sponge and rubber band :-)
Good vid. Great update, thanks for doing this. I did my first vlog on my channel recently (still trying to hit 100 subs haha) with a different cam and it was too shaky. Will be picking this one up for upcoming vlogs due to exactly the reasons you mentioned; despite it being 4.5 yrs old. The part about fake looking on the new GP9 stabilization is so true. I watched some dirtbike footage and it would take a jump and it's so strange to not "feel" (see) any "bump" at all on the landing. Subbed 👍
I was about to sell my Sony X3000 and was shocked how expensive they are going for on Ebay. $500 - $1000 used. I guess they are in high demand. Now I'm not sure if I want to sell it :) Great video
Do you do any post production with the footage? I have a gopro, and the settings are not compatible with UA-cams preferences for size and bitrate, so in order to have footage that is not blurry i have to upload to my laptop and change the export settings - which is tedious.. Do you change any of the export settings for the sony in post, or not ?
I am curious if The Everyday Dad has ever filmed a vlog before.. a travel vlog. Where car noise is a factor. It's more than just wind noise. Wind noise you don't have a to go to a seculded forest to get. you can got to the reeperbahn and get it from the traffic as well as car noise.. a real life vlogging problem if you've ever vlogged in a busy city with a camera that the audio doesn't perform well you know how much that can make the audio practically useless..
I just got one, and I have a constant static noise while recording. Im not sure if this is normal, but once I heard it I cannot unhear it in any video I take.
Interesting perspective on stabilization. I've had a decent luck with GoPro Hero 8 for night time vlogging, I personally like the stabilization on it, but the audio 100% wins on the Sony you have... I feel like its a solid compromise. and I'm sure there's gimbals out there for your Sony to make it smoother if you wish.. I'd like it a little bit smoother for the Sony.. to each their own on stabilization, but definitely better stabilization than the Canon M50 I tried out...
Great video! I am glad I bought this camera as well. It is so portable and easy to use. May I ask you what your go to settings are and which you used to shoot this video because it looks great. Thanks!

Great video! I’m contemplating getting one of these to begin Vlogging. Was wanting to combine footage with my mirrorrless at 30p. Is the 24p/30p footage on the Sony really that bad?
Would you say the small screen is a must have? i'm going to start making wide lens vlogs with this camera but I'm afraid I won't know where I'm pointing it to start? I feel like it might not be needed because of how wide everything is filmed! Cheers
Every time I think about upgrading, I test a new GoPro or something and.... yeah stabilization at night leaves only the X3000 as your choice even in 2022.
Besides the audio not always being reliable on the GoPro. It looks like Sony doesn’t get those Sunrays / UV rays in the video. GoPro is notorious for that shit. I’m sure there’s a filter cap you can put over it to help out. But still something to note.
Hey man, thanks for a great vid! I have a question: from your experience, what are the BEST video settings to get the most out of the camera for UA-cam, without 4k. Mp4? Xavc? Please share from your experience. Thanks.
Render at a high bit rate. It’s the only way to fight against UA-cams compression. Quality of course depends on the camera. 4K only looks good on 4K monitors.
Hello David. I want to ask you how to upload recordings from the X3000 at 1080p 60fps to UA-cam. There seems to be an issue with the X3000's high bit rate which UA-cam doesn't support in 1080P, but only in 4K I noticed that you along with other great UA-camrs; Upload your videos in 1080p 60fp and the quality of the videos looks fine, basically it looks like the original recording quality that comes out of the camera. I uploaded a test recording from the X3000 but the compression on UA-cam is terrible and it´s barely watchable.
Well it does take time for UA-cam to process videos. On this channel it takes about 2 hours to process HD, and on my main channel 6 hours to a day to process 4k. For the casual videos all I do is shoot in xavcs - 60 fps and when I render the video I noticed when I set the bit rate to 50 instead a variable bit rate then end video looks better.
@@EdgeofdavidThank yoi David. I will try to record in xavcs and remder the bitrate to 50. I didn't know you got two channels, what's your first channel's name ?
