    How are these long term? Noise? leaks? Curious when driving on a freeway is the card louder with these panels on then say a normal hard top car?

      The rubber seals on mine keep shifting so they are in the right spot even after going back to the dealership to get them fixed but no leaks, also the automatic one for me sounds like there’s no grease and moves very stiff

      If it leak the leak and damage would both be repaired under warranty. This is a new car we are talking about. The people who buy these cars used in 10 years are the people who have to worry about leaks.

      Seems like a pretty bulletproof design, it probably seals on a simple rubber gasket. The real problem would be the latch mechanism after lots of use, and the cost to replace the panel or frame/gasket when worn.

      +Jonathan Washington I haven't had any issues with leaking with mine

      There's not a problem with leaking. This was a must have feature for me, because I also own a Wrangler and love the open air aspect. However, the current common problem with the Renegade MySky and the same one I'm experiencing is that the front panel rattles, especially on warm days when the sun has been beating down on it. Maybe, it's due to the light weight that's been described but it's a very annoying rattle that is heard on every little bump while driving and so far I have been unsuccessful working with the dealership in getting the rattle problem resolved and that seems to be the case with others as well. Although my Wrangler freedom panels are heavier, they don't make rattle noises.

    I see a lot of whining going on with this feature. I think it's pretty cool. I can see those lazy folks who don't like messing with gadgets or the type that use GAS GRILLS instead of CHARCOAL would not enjoy transforming your jeep into a semi convertible. One thing I'm curious about is how noisy does it get when doing 80 on a highway with the my sky removed.
    I saw one video where the guy said anything past 40 MPH is too noisy. I would like more feedback from people actually using this feature. I did test drive a limited Renegade and was impressed. It looks like a small Crossover SUV but its actually slightly wider and taller than a Nissan Rogue (2008). It looks tiny because it's about 20 inches shorter. You can compensate lack of storage with the roof rack. I saw a luggage bag thing you can get for around $125. Maybe $200 for the enclosed plastic ones.

    • @cROSSingth3RUBICon
      @cROSSingth3RUBICon 8 років тому +2

      +Mike Mac I own a renegade with mysky. It's definitely noisy. But, anyone who would actually enjoy a mysky isn't going to mind the noise. That's kind of the whole point. Also, I love taking the roof off, and I love my GAS grill.

    • @mikemac7431
      @mikemac7431 8 років тому +2

      +General Shitbird Supreme . thanks for the input. haha its ok you can enjoy the gas grill. sometimes it's just more convenient but you have to admit charcoal cooked food tastes better right? I plan on holding out and getting the 2017 renegade.

    • @cROSSingth3RUBICon
      @cROSSingth3RUBICon 8 років тому

      Mike Mac As far as gas v. charcoal, it depends on what I'm trying to cook. I'm big on seafood, which I prefer to have a cleaner/fresher taste from the gas grill, but if I'm making ribs or pork belly, I'm going straight for the charcoal.

  • @Call_Call_Fold

    I went to the dealer today to check this out. It is pretty neat but there is a huge flaw in the design. What they didn't show in this video is that the panels are stored in a bag in the trunk. The bag does not fit under the removable shelf and there is a paper included with it that specifically tells you not to. The bag has to sit on top of the shelf and takes up the whole trunk. You can't put anything in the trunk with out it sitting on top of the panels and flimsy foam holder!!!! The engineers didn't think this one through.

    • @socalpilot1816
      @socalpilot1816 9 років тому +3

      Pretty sure just like the t-top in my old Camaro, you can put the tops in your garage or house.
      When t-tops where off on the Camaro nothing would fit in the trunk with the tops.

    • @caltamirano83ify
      @caltamirano83ify 8 років тому +3

      Not sure if you took your time with it, but your wrong. My fiancé just got one and that bag with the roof panels inside of it fits just fine under that removable shelf, as a matter of fact the bag has 2 straps that you tie to 2 specific points. Those points are located under the removable shelf on the trunk!
      Maybe you didnt put the shelf back correctly, but i assure you 100% that it fits in there fine!
      So to be clear for everyone reading this, there's no flaw on the design like this dude said, he didn't do it right!

    • @Call_Call_Fold
      @Call_Call_Fold 8 років тому

      Unless they changed it for 2016 the dealer forgot to give you the piece of paper saying specifically not to do it otherwise it will damage the panels. I did take my time with it. So did 4 salespeople at the dealer.

    I would have though that these panels would have been a tented glass at least or a hard see through tented plastic. I like the Idea though & it puts these at the top of my list rather than the Chevy Trax/ Encore, Honda HR-V, Nissan Juke, Kia Soul.

    Far be it from me to gainsay the sniffy, snot gobbling critics that represent our beloved US cousins, but this is very clever piece of design. You don't understand it because you've never seen it before because your homegrown jalopies have all the advanced design of a stone axe. This comment is not intended, in any way, to insult the design capabilities of stone age man.

  • @mikeoftheages

    Neat idea. Personally I like the thought of a manual roof better, less to go wrong and break. I get that us lazy 'muricans don't like the chore of getting outside the vehicle and taking out one or more roofs by hand and I get that the seals will dry up over time, but that just means you have to take care of this like any other car.

    sorry - too much work ;-) And you know someone will lose the key and then you're screwed buying a $500 key that *ONLY* jeep makes. Then again, I'm not a truck/off-road guy and getting dust on my pants makes me run to the dry cleaner - I kid, I kid.
    Jokes asides, too fussy, really. Maybe good for the young teens, early 20s and *real* outdoors people, but for the average city/urban joe like myself, I don't want to deal with pulling out some key to remove a plastic panel only to have to unload the back so I can get to the pizza bag under neither the floor. Nice idea, good execution, just not practical.

If that one time in a million you are at the beach and you somehow lost your car keys how would you do anything different in that situation from if you had the jeep my sky option. I think its a cool feature for those of us who like putting things together. The type that use chimneys when grilling and using lump charcoal instead of lazy gas grills. Ok, so I read you were kinda joking and kidding on your post. I get it.

    Yea and when you're going down the freeway and it starts raining or gets too windy you better take the next exit to stop and start putting the sunroofs back on. This is the lamest thing I've ever seen. Why not just have both of them slide all the way back and if there isn't enough room then make the sunroofs a little smaller. Or have one huge roof divided in two sections where the from one slides forward and the rear portion slides back.
